Easter Egg reveals Larian Studios next project
Tumblr media
For months, since unanimously winning awards for the critically acclaimed Baldur's Gate 3, Larian Studios has been tight-lipped about their next major project. Although they did say it would not be another Baldur's Gate or even a Divinity title, they also have been vocal about the games industry - particularly regarding layoffs. Good for them. Last week Larian's next game was porported to have a different "tone, style, way of doing it" to Baldur's Gate 3, but won't "dwarf" it.
Tumblr media
After the past couple weeks speculating how the collaboration between Baldur's Gate 3 and Vampire Survivors would surface, an unexpected twist occured yesterday on Easter Sunday in the form of an Easter Egg.
Tumblr media
Veterans of Vampire Survivors are keenly aware of 'Toastie' - a nod to Mortal Kombat's infamous 'TOASTY!' character Dan Forden who would pop up at the bottom right corner for a second. It seems a similar interaction occurs only on Easter Sunday.
Tumblr media
Certain checks, usually ones which have to critically fail, cause an unusual character to appear and eventually it was discovered this is none other than Helpy from the Adult Swim TV Show Tigtone!
Tumblr media
The TV show Tigtone has not been seen since 2020, coincidentally when Larian got deep into Early Access of BG3, and kept this as a secret feature for years.
Larian needs a wizard killer more than ever and who kills more wizards than TIGTONE?!!
Tumblr media
Founder and CEO of the video game company Larian Studios Swen Vincke sat down, stood up, then sat down again at the Municipal Animation Directors Conference And Parlor outside Ghent to discuss this new project, translated from Belgian:
Tumblr media
"Our fans are incredibly smart so they figured it out within hours. We've really grown internally, and externally here, and we wanted to shout and scream about making the industry fun again so what is more fun than Tigtone?"
Tumblr media
"The first time watching Tigtone is magical - he murders everything, pursuades everything, intimidates everything - he's a natural 20 roll in every aspect - it will be the first TRPG - Tigtone Role Playing Game"
Tumblr media
Sir Vincke revealed the following:
Tigtone is seeking The Dark Quantum Forest for the source of all questlogs resulting in a multiversal meeting of infinite Tigtones all seeking to be the truest Tigtone with the most quests completed.
There will be a 'TVT' mode - Tigtone Vs Tigtone - where you can steal quests from other players. Custom quest making feature where anything is possible if you believe in yourself. Chris Avellone will be back to write about old ladies. You can customise the size of your potions. The Helpy resource system. Mercy Hobo Hardcore mode. Rope collecting.
Tumblr media
Tim Follin will also be dragged out of retirement by the teeth to compose the soundtrack in collaboration with Toby Fox who promises to stop sneaking in Homestuck references into his games.
You can choose to ally with one of the fundamentals or defy them - for example:
You can ally with GRAVITY, enabling SHOVE to win - or defy them in order to gain FLIGHT. You can ally with TIME, enabling ACTION ECONOMY bonuses - or defy them to COMPLETE SEASONAL QUESTS out of season (protected from FOMO). You can ally with SPACE, enabling UNLOCK NEW AREAS - or defy them to UNLOCK SEQUENCE BREAKING.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Whilst Nils Frykdahl will reprise his role as Tigtone, Neil Newbon, who played Astarion in BG3, will play the role of the Wood Elf and Flying Tree. No further announcements regarding voice actors.
The main threat has been revealed to be THE VILLAINOUS SURVIVALICH who is determined to turn all quests into tedious base-crafting objectives to expand the power of the Chrono Enigma Occlusion (CEO) sinkhole.
More news about this, hopefully, will surface later on this year.

ZERO
Tumblr media
What is this?
As you may recall, since 2019/2020, Honorable Exemptions are given to games whereby they would of been included in the Top 20 however they are disqualified due to certain factors - be it remakes or remasters too closely resembling their original versions or being in Early Access (fully playable and sold) for 2 years or more. They are NOT Honorable Mentions since Honorable Mentions implies games which did not quite make 20th place but instead 21st onwards.
What is Baldur's Gate 3 then? Initially it is an Honorable Exemption too however, unlike every other Honorable Exemption before it, this would have easily been the 1st place spot and likely 1st among many other years too - it transcends positions thus creating a new rule - The ZERO rule.
Zero - 0, in traditional context, represents no value - nothing. However in THIS context it means quite the opposite - it is to represent something before any value is given to the Top 20 - such as 1st place. It precedes it in priority - it takes supreme precedence - NOTHING is before it and it is absolute in its value. I could of used the 'infinite' value but I felt it further confuses the idea of numerical structure.
A better way to look at this is to consider what is 1st on a given year being the recommended game to play 1st. If you already played or have no interest in 1st then go to the 2nd choice until 20th. Anything not in the Top 20 of the year you decide for yourself out of personal preference versus objectivity. Baldur's Gate 3 is 0 because it MUST precede a 1st. It goes beyond calling it Game of the Year though you can call it this if you want I think you're undervaluing it.
In what people consider to be one of the greatest years for gaming it is only fitting one of the greatest games is among this year. If this is all still confusing just consider it a Top 21 with Baldur's Gate 3 as 1st instead.
Do not expect this ZERO rule to happen again for awhile. Hold me to my words and we'll see. Until next time!

Closing Thoughts -
Tumblr media
This was hard to do. Having witnessed a timelapse of a company go from having momentum to stagnation is a difficult pill to swallow and yet it's not all doom and gloom there is a way out of this rut and it's not by relying on cheap pops and the past. Part of me wanted to include this "Final Chance Tournament" idea of an 8-man elimination, King of the Ring style, where the winner gets an AEW World Championship match and everyone else can never challenge again but the only qualifying condition is you have to be at least 50 years old to compete. Adam Copeland (visual above) will be 50 at the end of this month. It didn't seem like a great idea but neither is bringing in him either so you tell me what sounds good. I hope I can hear AEW sounding better next year.

Reviewing the All Elite Wrestling personnel 2023 Edition (Part 4) -
The Best Matches of AEW in 2023
No particular order to these I'm just trying to remind myself AEW has good matches.
MJF Vs Bryan Danielson at Revolution 2023 (March 5th)
Tumblr media
The Main Event and an Iron-Man classic. Perhaps surpasses even Bret and Shawn, this confirmed beyond any shadow of doubt why MJF is the headliner and the only true star under 30 years old in the entire business. His already veteran proficiency to adapt and tell a story with one of the all-time greats in Danielson is a testament to how much greater he'll get in the upcoming years. Go watch it.
FTR vs Bullet Club Gold 2/3 Falls at AEW Collision (July 15th)
Tumblr media
I could also include their first encounter or even before with Punk Vs Samoa Joe included but this was the payoff to a simple story of two challengers who got everything out of the greatest tag team in the world. Incredible pacing and supreme result.
Kenny Omega Vs Will Ospreay AEW Forbidden Door (June 25th)
Tumblr media
Highly regarded as a classic, this shows Kenny Omega is still a major draw and Will Ospreay is an insane person. I really don't have much more to say other than it's brutal to watch and, unlike Moxley Vs Hangman, worth your time to appreciate wrestlers putting their bodies on the line and not taking shortcuts.
Jamie Hayter Vs Riho at AEW Dynamite (April 5th)
Tumblr media
Criminally underrated (because they're women of course), this was one of the defining reasons why Jamie Hayter is so sorely missed. Both had incredible chemistry and made each other look like stars. The Women's Division has been slaughtered without these two maintaining it.
Konosuke Takeshita Vs Bandido at AEW Rampage (June 16th)
Tumblr media
Another very overlooked, underrated, contest between two of the guys I've said to push this year. The dynamic of contrasting styles yet blending a variety of high-flying offense with power moves means a longer match to pace out and make them both steal a show someday should be thought upon for next year.
Other matches I feel are worth going out of your way to enjoy would be Mark Briscoe Vs Jay Lethal for the sentimental value as it is a tribute match to the tragic passing of Jay Briscoe. CM Punk Vs Ricky Starks at the end of the 2nd Owen Hart Cup to tell a story and give Ricky Starks his most notable win to date. Kris Statlander Vs Julia Hart at WrestleDream which just happened but shows Julia is going to be a big star. The Gunns Vs FTR which again showcases FTR as the all-time greatest tag-team working today. Finally MJF Vs Adam Cole at All In for once again proving MJF is a masterful talent who can get the best out of anyone.

Reviewing the All Elite Wrestling personnel 2023 Edition (Part 3) -
GET RID OF -
Tumblr media
No I've not lost my mind hear me out - Hook is a great prospect and well-guarded in the booking. He is a special attraction. This is it. They don't know what to do now. If the company had sense he'd of done stuff with guys they still have like Ogogo or even Samoa Joe. What would you do with Hook in AEW? For me I'd send him to NJPW and let him develop his technical skills - at the least make him Shibata's protege just don't make him suffer because he's not going to kiss ass to the establishment. I have no faith AEW will do anything with Hook when they've already pushed the wrong talents. He's got to go to grow.
Tumblr media
Limitless dissapointment. What a tragic example of someone who can't reach his potential because of a complete lack of wanting it. Keith Lee is the guy who will smile at Jay White taking every spot and thumbs up a Swerve Strickland for wanting to adapt. Indubitably the only thing he resembles of a Junkyard Dog is the 'Junk' aspect. I do not dislike him but his sporadic appearences have tarnished what could of been a revival to his lackluster WWE career. Now I can only look at him as an overgrown mark for himself. The kind of luxury supercar who can only reach second gear.
Tumblr media
Not a wrestler. NEXT.
Tumblr media
He's returned to the mildest interest imaginable. Remember folks - a former TNT Champion and Tag Champion. This is 2/3 of the Triple Crown. Only Luchasaurus has accomplished this as well. Does he have blackmail on Tony Khan? Nothing about him is original and better talent have got less. Granted he's not winning anything but what do you expect? AEW outgrew him in the 4 years since becoming a weekly syndicated show. What has he done? Stagnated. Be it Kazarian or Ethan Page or anyone he's juxtaposed to he always comes off as the second stringer, the sidekick, the assist. Not a star.
Tumblr media
I believe everyone in this world deserves a 2nd chance. Or even a 3rd chance if they've been so successful before and you understand they really want to try. Jeff Hardy has had his last chance more than 3 chances ago. It takes away from others how much he's given and it's beyond unfair. We live in a world where Tessa Blanchard is never given a single chance and is punished for calling "The Black Rose" a derogatory slur, fair enough, but we'll allow a DUI repeat offender the 'chance' to return and he's twice the age of Tessa. What do you think? If the 'crimes' were reversed would you still let Jeff Hardy back in? Of course AEW would - this is why it's just a vanity project and not one built on moral principles. Even if you disregard it the guy is a husk of what he once was so stop embarrassing the nostalgia.
Tumblr media
"Protect me from myself" is the wrestler's mantra. Wrestlers are there to put their bodies on the line and expect their opponent(s) to help them keep things safe. Referees are meant to support this. Rick Knox was recently involved in the contraversial Rey Fenix International title win over Moxley. This isn't the first time a guy concussed/KOed has had no help from him look up 'Alex Reynolds knocked out' and look who the ref was there too. He's an amateur and dangerously naive to the well-being of the roster. At best he's careless. At worst malicious. See Jeff Hardy on 'chances'.
Tumblr media
I could copy-paste what I said on Ruby Soho and be done with it. For everyone's safety, including her own, for the dignity of wrestling, and the chance for the women's division to mean anything, and belts to not just be used to keep broken wrestlers together, we need her to go - Britt Baker herself said it best - the industry has moved past her. It's now being held back from growing further.
Tumblr media
Remember earlier what I said on Hook? This is one example. For a living bar of prison soap, nothing feels clean with this limpet around - I've never seen a guy more in need of having a mask put on him and, like Hook, I'd send him from AEW but instead to a landfill. The only good thing about him is his age which means he has time to go away and return better but, more likely, he's here to stay and infect airtime with negative ratings. A 'change the channel' wrestler.
Tumblr media
I'll say this - he's incredible for his age and for the fact since I began watching wrestling he's been around…granted I've tried my best to avoid watching him but guess he thought better. His bit has run its course, get rid of the loose faction around him, free Jay Lethal, and let him be a booker or something. His mind is what is important not his body of work.
Tumblr media
The time has come to finally talk about Sammy Guevara - a man I danced around with for 4 years debating whether he should be pushed or go. He should go. Here's why - Sammy Guevara is one of the best talents AEW has got so what's the problem? He can't overcome his own insecurities. He has to be associated with someone. He has to be involved with people who drag him down and, consequently, he's comfortable with it. When the Inner Circle and Pinnacle storyline happened it should of culminated with Guevara becoming the new leader and Jericho eventually breaking off to do his own ego faction. This way Guevara could of feuded with MJF on a more serious level. None of this happened. In fact Guevara has been stuck slowly grinding on the spot without a care. When he discussed why he joined Don Callis he could of mentioned Jericho gave him bad habits and his reliance to do his moves is why he lost NOT because he was just 'sick and tired' of Jericho my god what a bore. If Guevara becomes an AEW World Champion by the time next October runs around this company will die an agonising death.

Reviewing the All Elite Wrestling personnel 2023 Edition (Part 2) -
PUSH -
Tumblr media
The Most Wanted. A wrestler I look forward to seeing on TV every single time which is a rarity in AEW these days. He's incredible! Yes I imagine his lack of promo deflates a full-on title push but this is why managers were invented. Put him with CJ Perry and let him chase the TNT title. Bandido. TNT. See how effective this all sounds? His win-loss record is criminal - I would protect this guy as a serious project to develop.
Tumblr media
Likely the prime choice to be the next AEW Champion all things considered. He's clever to protect his spot. Call it akin to Hogan or Cena or anybody politicing in the back the guy must have a silver tongue backstage. Not to bash Adam Cole once again but the moment I saw Jay White I asked out loud what was the point of Adam Cole now? We can clearly see, unlike Adam Cole, Jay White welcomes the promo battles with MJF because he wants to be considered as good and, yeah, MJF smoked him with the 'Tofu' line but you know I've seen Tofu survive a Zombie Apocalypse with only a knife so color me interested at the success he's getting.
Tumblr media
A dark horse in AEW's future success. Transplant Jay White's goatee onto him and you've got a serious contender for future AEW Champion. Also can't speak a lick of English hence Don Callis. Nothing much more can be said. He's got size, impression, and time on his side. He isn't being made into some gimmick joke character so they must think highly on the guy. A time will come when one has to ask who people see doing well when they're not in AEW. Relatively safe and solid worker.
Tumblr media
Aah yes a favourite of mine. Should of been everything Sammy Guevara could of been and, hopefully, more. Santana is one of AEW's most missed opportunities and it's obvious he tried to go to WWE but got rejected so could never debut on the Puerto Rico event. A shame. It's a risk to invest in him but it's worth taking if it pays off - the guy is easily able to hang with the established main eventers and future stars if he can finally detach himself from the chains of Ortiz.
Tumblr media
I debated this one for a bit. On one hand it's frustrating how badly they've booked big men in this company. Lance Archer. Powerhouse Hobbs. Wardlow. Miro included, but Miro still gets attention because of the absurdity of his story. The right thing to do with him is to make him a chaser who keeps having obstacles put in his way. A "12 Labours of Hercules" kind of deal. Miro is a long-term push who, on his way up, can highlight other talents too.
Tumblr media
A 11th hour success story - the BCC, JAS, and Outcasts have been insufferable drains on television time - non-story factions who pick fights which mean nothing to serve the cause of one person - Moxley, Jericho, and Saraya (dis)respectably. Put some AM Radio filters on her promos and even during the intro for the commentary, pull out a red carpet with photographers when she wins the Women's Title and have her kiss a plastic baby held by Gene Snitsky before he punts it. Have Toni Storm stalk Darby Allin thinking he's pining for the "good old days" whilst Danhausen stalks her like Nosferatu. Have Hikaru Shida do something with her Kurosawa style…it's endless…dare I say…Timeless??? People naturally knew to clap her instead of cheer. This is how you get OVER.
Tumblr media
Would of included her last year but official roster candidates qualify so here she is now. She's someone who I can count the number of moves she does yet every move she does counts. Special mention to Brody King who has been a beacon of inspiration for her and championing her cause. She should be the next TBS Champion but not yet do it next year. All she needs is a broader moveset and she'll soar to new heights in her young career what most veterans never see at all. Great finisher. Great theme song too.
Tumblr media
In many ways the contrast of Julia Hart in the sense of being a fantastic veteran who has always had the look of a serious competitor and the attitude of a rugged badass. AEW has always flirted with the idea of Mercedes Martinez for some time and it seems like the time has come for her to go full mercenary and take everyone and anyone out before she's out of opportunities.
Tumblr media
Speaking of Latina latents, Thunder Rosa is due for a return and it should be a monumental one building up to feuds with Jamie Hayter (when she's ready) and Britt Baker (if she's still here). Or why not Taya too…actually where's Deeb? One of the biggest mysteries is Deeb's disappearance. Anyways Thunder Rosa is a complete flavour of work, look, and promo it's just not everyones' taste. She's been doing Vlogs so it's not like she's missing just not being used. Why?
Tumblr media
Every year I seem to nominate at the end a former AEW Champ to get rid of so, for a change of pace, here's a former AEW Champ to push. Kenny Omega is still a viable draw when you detach him from all the stupidity associated with his personality. The Cleaner needs to find a way to make AEW's faithful more than just hanger-ons and return to being the franchise player where he can mix with any style. Keep his work inside the ring, build psychology, wrestle fundamentals, and revise his goals to humble his way without gimmicks or stipulations. Make him just WRESTLE and let time speak for it.

Reviewing the All Elite Wrestling personnel 2023 Edition (Part 1) -
General statistics (taken from https://www.allelitewrestling.com/aew-roster as of 01/10/23) -
For this first part I decided to take everyone’s overall record and calculate with a little adjustments as outlined below:
+2 points for a win -1 point for a loss +1 point for every 3 matches (leftovers will be 0.3 or 0.6) 0 for draws Tiebreakers will be decided if possible (former champions, number of matches, being on the 1st year list, and such) Non-AEW Accomplishments not regarded (this includes ROH Titles) Some Faction definitions are refined by personal choice Career Records only
This doesn’t factor in jobbers or people off this list and have no wins let alone official records. This also doesn’t take into account promo skills or how long they’ve been in the company. I’ve tiered it in terms of every ‘tens’ such as those with a score of 20-29.6 or 30-39.6 to illustrate a sort of 'group’ these wrestlers sit in. It’s clearly not perfect but it does highlight how higher positives scores should fair against lower positive scores when matched up, especially champions. Don’t take it too seriously of course - it’s something I like to dabble in for the sake of my own curiousity and amusement. There is some truth to it though. Just think of it as a ballpark reason to how AEW is promoting certain people and trying to instill credibility into their tenure. Onwards!

Reviewing the All Elite Wrestling personnel 2023 Edition (Part 0) -
New to this? Please refer to https://dreadwhoop.tumblr.com/post/697331836428353536/reviewing-the-all-elite-wrestling-personnel-2022 to recap 2022 or understand what this is all about.
Tumblr media
Yeah. Where to start?
A brief rundown. Usually these go out around the anniversary of the weekly TV show AEW Dynamite. Here I'll ruminate the overview between last year and this year. After we'll address the roster's ratings and then who to PUSH or GET RID OF and then, if I can, some other factors to complete the annual review. This will likely be a lighter affair than the previous years since I echo the sentiments said before and, as a principled individual, don't like changing my mind once committed to an ideal - if it's good it's good if it's bad it's bad I'll continue regardless. Having said this, every time I publish a PUSH or GET RID OF list I never change the decision or repeat it so you'll always see new entrants. Anyways let's move on!
Tumblr media
Since last year we've seen the end of AEW Dark and AEW Dark Elevation and in return the inclusion of AEW Collision as weekly offerings alongside Dynamite and Rampage. The videogame AEW Fight Forever also released this year after significant delays which makes certain roster inclusions oddities as a result. By far though the most important day for AEW was All In at Wembley Stadium - their biggest event to date by far.
Tumblr media
AEW continues to find a measure of success in places, put on some notable matches, and effectively make 2023 the defining year where MJF is the major draw which is why it'll be a bad blow to the company upon his inevitable departure following the firing of CM Punk and loss of Jade Cargill, two names they built up strong, whilst keeping under contract even more names than ever before. Here's something to look over with the documentation done over these 4 years. If you regard official active wrestlers, we've gone from 79 in 2019-2020 to 108 in 2020-2021 to 132 in 2021-2022 to now 156 in 2022-2023. Rumours of Tony Khan buying New Japan Pro Wrestling, Shimmer, and other shows as he did with Ring of Honor only dillutes the waters further. Let's make one thing clear - you only have a roster this bloated if you expect them to get injured so you can substitute someone else in, talent be damned. Dante Martin took a bump which effectively renders his past career over whilst Jon Moxley took a nasty stinger and now both AEW's cornerstone and capstone are sidelined leaving Tony Khan to DANCE WITH GARCIA BABY LET'S FORGET THE BAD TIMES LET'S DANCE BABY!
Tumblr media
Moving on…
Tumblr media
This whole story with MJF and Adam Cole bromance better end with MJF and Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. being together and, for both their sakes, in WWE with her as his valet who wrestles too. MJF goes on about being a generational talent well it's only proven by having an incredible 2nd-generation talent with someone also talented especially after the botching of her 'abuse victim' T-Shirt. Anything less is fraud on the payoff and no don't feel sorry for Adam Cole because what they should of done with him was not what happened and instead has dragged MJF down to a level which insults the intelligence of its audience and his ability.
Tumblr media
I want people to direct their attention to Netflix's documentary on OVW (Ohio Valley Wrestling) and how, despite the distance in audience and finance, the same problems in OVW crop up in AEW: lack of new fans. Retaining an audience is one thing but genuine interest is floundering. It's also worth noting the only difference between the success and failure of a promotion is how much revenue it has - OVW could be given a billion dollars and achieve just as much success as AEW so keep it in mind - context matters. Mahabali Shera is great would love to see him in AEW doing well. I'd also recommend Hollyhood Haley J, if only to get her to catering to get a decent meal because she's painfully thin and understand why, but you'd have to steer her to get the best from what could be a huge draw - making her lean into saying Tammy Sytch is her hero, got 'a-head' using Al Snow to work her way up, and generally make her an outrageous antithesis to Toni Storm who wants to be regarded as a star whilst Haley wants to burn everyone like a star or Julia Hart who plays at the darkness whilst she breathes it. Neither will reach the platform of WWE without a proving ground like AEW to see how well they thrive with established talents. Like Brian Pillman Jr. and Dark Side of the Ring, they can't afford to miss on such opportunities given the buzz. Hire some talent from OVW Tony.
Tumblr media
Finally want to mention the series Markyd123 was doing on AEW was refreshing, as we need new takes, but of course the fanbase ran his interest off. Great job guys - let's continue to sabotage diverse voices whilst pretending we want diversity. As paraphrased by a relevant person to this conversation, you're either growing or you're dying. We'll see which AEW is come next annual review.
