"Anyone want to play in the mud with me?!" -Reuben This gorgeous 2 year old boy is available now to a great home. He has the potential to be "The One" for the right person and his ideal owner will be athletic, outdoorsy and very active because he has energy for days and just loves to "go places and do stuff"! Reuben's outdoor running style is more like a Pointer than a Dobie and he really reminds us of a German Shorthair galloping through the fields; he loves to just orbit for hours while keeping tabs on you, but can also walk in a disciplined fashion when needed 😊 We think he could easily be taught to flush birds if someone would like to go pheasant hunting with a Doberman! His ideal Person will be assertive but kind because he is a love bug with a stubborn streak and needs a person who can firmly and consistently guide him to make good decisions but then love on him, too. 💞 He is well-trained both on and off-leash, uses a SportDog 425 e-collar, and also loves to run behind a bike! He sleeps peacefully in a large, comfy crate at night and if he needs a mid-day nap. Reuben has been with us for 1 week and has learned a TON about being a dog and gotten tons of life experience and exercise. Week 2 will be more of the same with a heavy focus on re-creating typical situations around the home and developing more appropriate responses to his humans within the home. He exhibited a lot of inappropriate resource guarding and space guarding behaviors in his previous home, so he is currently practicing being where we tell him to be, not trying to claim the high-status positions for himself, not being allowed to stiffen and resist when he is challenged, or refuse to move to a new spot when we tell him to. There will also be bully sticks and other valuable resources involved. Reuben says, "Why does that not sound as pleasant as I think it should sound? How do you guys manage to even ruin bully sticks?!" It's a for your own good, buddy, you are going to get a new home as a polite member of society instead of losing your life.
