To the version of me who loved him,

I see you. I know how deeply you felt that love — the kind that lingered long after goodbye. I know you still wonder what might have happened if the world had been a little softer, if grief hadn’t wrapped itself around your chest and made it hard to breathe, to love fully, to stay.

You didn’t leave because you stopped caring. You left because life was too heavy to carry both your pain and someone else’s heart. And even though you made the choice, you’ve lived with the echo of it ever since.

You think of him sometimes — in photos, in flashes, in silence. You feel something in your chest tighten when you see him smiling with someone new, not because you wish it were you, but because it confirms what you always knew: that there was love there. Real love. Love that deserved more time.

But sweet girl, that invisible string isn’t meant to bind you — it’s meant to remind you. Of how much you’ve grown. Of what you survived. Of the way your heart can hold more than one truth at once.

You are not betraying your present by remembering your past. You are not weak for feeling this ache. You are human, and your heart is big enough to honor old love while embracing the new.

You are allowed to feel it all — the tenderness, the longing, the quiet ache of a road not taken — and still walk forward with joy, clarity, and peace.

Because what you have now is real. And so was what came before.

But you don’t live there anymore.

And that’s okay.
