You guys, Rebecca makes a very interesting point in this interview about On The Run that I haven’t seen anyone talk about!

Rose and Pearl had a lot of bad feelings about the Prime Kindergarten, including guilt over their involvement in its creation, but all Amethyst knew was they didn’t like the place. She was led to believe that it was a bad place for bad gems, and that she was a bad gem by proxy.

“None of this is your fault! You didn’t build this place!” No, Pink Diamond did, with Pearl by her side. But Pearl couldn’t say that, and her and Rose’s silence on the matter made Amethyst herself feel guilty for calling this place home.

This may seem like a bizarre thing to focus on, but how many gems do you think Pink has seen Blue and Yellow shatter over the years?

I ask because I kind of suspect this may have had something to do with her perception that Blue and Yellow wouldn’t care, or wouldn’t be too affected.

From what little we’ve seen of Homeworld, it kind of seems like anyone who isn’t a Diamond isn’t really cared about in the way that Pink Diamond is. It seems like any kind of disobedience or defiance is often met with shattering. 

Not only that, but the Diamonds don’t really seem to be all that affected by it when they decide to shatter someone. Yellow Diamond certainly didn’t hesitate to tell that Nephrite she was speaking to that she would shatter the whole crew for their disobedience. Blue Diamond didn’t hesitate to call for Ruby’s execution when she fused with Sapphire.

Pink’s conclusion that the other Diamonds wouldn’t care likely didn’t come from some melodramatic idea that her moms didn’t love her. It likely came from her seeing them shatter countless other gems without shedding a tear.

Okay, as fun and silly Message received was… now that we know Pearl was “ordered” by a diamond to never reveal their secret. She tried to keep it a secret for more than 5000 yers. Can you imagine how strong and determined Peridot was to actually DENY an order from a diamond??? Like she was SWEATING. Jeez, Peridot, my girl, you are AMAZING.

Thank you Xemily77. You summed up my feelings of the recent Steven Universe spoilers in a nutshell.

In all honesty, the “leaks/spoilers/whatever/etc.” featured in that video weren’t that bad aside from the one at the very end. Yes, it sucks & it does hurt all of the hard work Rebecca Sugar and the Crewniverse have been doing for six years, but it’s not as bad as people are making it out to be for three reasons:

We don’t know if this the season 5 finale or the series finale.

We don’t know the events that led to these points. No matter how much we can assume, there’s always the possibility that the show will give us a curveball.

There are still unresolved questions and character development that weren’t featured or brought up in these spoilers (ex- Jasper, Lapis & Peridot, The Off Colors arriving on Earth, Lars reuniting with Sadie, Sadie Killer & the Suspects’ music career, Pearl’s relationship with Mystery Girl, Steven fusing with Garnet & Pearl, who shattered Pink Diamond).

If you’re mad about these spoilers that’s perfectly fine & I 95-100% agree with you, but I still don’t believe that Steven Universe is ruined. The lore & story arc are both major aspects of the show & seemingly the main reason why theorists & fans of story arc-driven shows watch the series in the first place. I also know that the way Cartoon Network handles the show (or anything that isn’t TTG) is another main reason for the backlash.

However, for me, I personally liked the show because of the current visual style, themes, characters, songs, & how it taught me to see things from other people’s perspectives and not to immediately hate/shun something without first giving it a chance. Heck, part of the reason I loved the recent Stevenbomb so much was because of how the Gems are interacting more with the citizens of Beach City, which was something I wanted just as the Gem lore back in season 1 but forgot about since I thought we were never going to see it at the time. A lot of us knew Steven Universe was going to this point anyway, & I’m still excited to see how it will get to these points in the spoilers & what will happen from there.

Plus, I learned to tolerate the way Cartoon Network handles SU because I can see that, at the very least, they’re trying to promote their other shows more through their focus on digital content like their Twitter account, their Youtube channel & their “CN This Week” series, and the CN app (they even used TTG to promote watching their other shows for a few commercials). Even though their attempts to promote Steven Universe don’t always work (ex- these spoilers & the Bloodstone incident), and I wish they gave it more love and care, I still try to support the series anyway I can. As much as I don’t want to sound like one of those snobs who gets up on their soap box and tell people how to be a “true SU fan,” I do suggest that everyone who’s in a fit of rage over the spoilers to ♫♪take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust.♫♪

If Rebecca Sugar or anyone from the Crewniverse is reading this, I’m sorry if you’re upset about this but I wish you the best of luck & I’m still really excited to see the rest of your passion project that has touched so many people!
