hmm this is a bit random, but what do you think yue’s dynamic would be with the other characters if she hadn’t,,, turned into the moon,,, and had joined the gaang? bc I think it would be rlly nice !! she has a good relationship with katara, and she seems to get along well with aang (and ofc,,, sokka

oh! honestly, yue joining the gaang is very difficult for me to picture because I cannot imagine her role in the narrative as anything other than what it is. that said, I wish that we had gotten to see more of her, that her relationship with sokka had been further developed. I am totally a sucker for their story, but I do think that it felt a bit rushed! so I would’ve appreciated spending more time with yue before the siege of the north, learning more about her, and developing her relationships (both with sokka and outside of sokka. would’ve liked to see her interacting with hahn and her father...) because she really did deserve to be more fleshed out.

obviously, we know that she gets along well with katara and aang, but that’s no surprise. since she and aang are both part-human part-spirit, I think they could really have benefitted from being close friends. I like to think that aang talks to her in the spirit world, since he spoke to her when she was a spirit in “the awakening,” so we know it’s possible for them to interact. and yue was there to witness katara wreck pakku’s shit, so I’m sure she has Feelings on that. and katara saw yue turn into the moon spirit. I imagine they must have tremendous respect for the other’s conviction and courage.

yue would definitely have benefitted from meeting toph and mai. they’re all repressed rich girls in various stages of liberation, and I think the three of them being friends would have amazing potential for growth and connection. she also definitely would have benefitted from meeting suki, because suki was raised in their world’s least patriarchal society. katara already showed yue that women can be warriors the way that suki showed sokka, but i think yue would find suki really inspiring nonetheless.

I’ve already written before about how yue and zuko have quite a bit in common and would make for really good friends. I don’t think we know enough about her, whether or not she holds grudges, to know how long it would take for her to forgive him, but what I do know is that she would. and as the moon spirit, assuming that she surveys all there is too see at night (does she literally orbit the globe or is she in the koi pond or is she in a different realm and those physical manifestations of her body aren’t actually what she sees? idk) well. she probably saw zuko thrash around and yell “why am I so bad at being good?” so there is that.

I wish we knew what/how much she saw of the gaang on their Adventures.... she probably watches the water tribes the most, but I think she keeps a proverbial eye out for sokka, and aang since hes the avatar (we know for the fact that she does!) not to mention katara, being the worlds most powerful waterbender and all. I really do hope that aang visits her in the spirit world. and maybe some of their other friends do too.
