The insults and nicknames that follow the Chrysthemum around are innumerous and infamous. She is a woman of luxury and indulgence, but also high intellect and cunning.

The Chrysthemum never wears a weapon, but beware even the most innocuous touch—rumor has it that she paints her nails with black widow venom.

This is a character introduction, inspired by a challenge on the Facebook fan group. Her story is taking me a little longer than I expected to develop, but I promise I haven’t forgotten this original member of the Iron Rose. Thanks to OP for the Iron Rose theme!

“It must be a trick,” some said. “Those knives are so long, there’s no way she’s actually swallowing them.” Ha.

Of course it’s not a trick. She didn’t spend fiifteen years beaten and starved by her master to learn a “trick”. No…that’s not true. It is a trick, it’s just not finished yet.

She still remembers the yeasty stench of rotten yams. The yams had been shoveled onto her by her brothers, and stifled her screams. Hidden beneath the compost, she watched as the blood-masked figures slaughtered her clan.

More than a decade had passed since the Iron Rose persecution of the Wasteland gypsies. The remaining clans had long retreated into the deep countryside. Few in Miraland still remembered the tragic event or its peoples… No matter.

For when the circus comes to town, when the blood-masks stand in the audience, she and her long knives will make them remember.
