“Yes Doctor,” Megan replied with a half smirk.  She knew Drew wouldn’t risk her health for anything, no matter how much she might try to persuade him however there seemed little chance she wouldn’t be well enough.  “Alright I will have a look.  I can’t imagine it will be hard to find something suitable for him although I don’t know how easy Tower Bridge models will be found.  I’ll get him something though.”  With that she began to yawn,  complaining with a sigh, “The damn medication.”
“That’s a good girl,” Drew said, patting his friend’s hand between his own as he gave her a small smirk of his own. “The bridge was just a suggestion, but truly, like I said, Dom will just be touched that you thought of him at all while you were traveling.” He patted her hand again. “You should get some sleep.”

“I’ll be perfectly safe to fly,” she mumbled loud enough that he would hear.  “I don’t know how long the train ride is but I don’t really intend to find out but I am looking forward to lots of shopping and scones.  Do you want me to bring you anything special back?  Or something for Dominique?”
“Just leave that to me to decide, hm?” Drew chastised gently. “At this time, I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to fly, but you know I can’t make any guarantees right now.” He smiled brightly at the mention of his son. “Anything bridge-related would be wonderful for him. Perhaps some sort of Tower Bridge Christmas ornament? Or sweets are always a good bet. Really, anything you can do to show Dom that you thought of him on the trip would be absolutely lovely.”

[Text] Yeah, I can’t say right now is the best time for things in the city. Don’t worry, I’ll speak to him in French, and eventually he’ll feel more comfortable as time goes by. The more people he feels comfortable around, the better.
[Text] Thank you, Sir. And yes. We want him to know just how many people here in Verona are there to support him.
[Text] We're all fine over here, Sir, Dominique included. Please do not hesitate to let me know if I may somehow be of assistance.
[Text] I’m very glad to hear it.
[Text] So far, so good. I’ll let you know if there’s anything that I need, but for now I’d say focusing on your family is best.
[Text] How is Dominique after it all? I can’t imagine this whole ordeal was easy.

[Text] Whatever we do, all that matters is that we make him feel special. Why don’t we ask him if he wants a big party with the kids in his class or if he’d prefer a day with the two of us, where he calls all the shots?
[Text] With the feast on the 30th, what do you say we throw Dom's birthday party on the 23rd or 24th?
[Text] That does make sense. Although I’m not sure what to do. On one hand it’s his first birthday in Verona with us…. but I also don’t want the poor boy feeling too overwhelmed.

“Actually I think the first challenge is for me to be allowed to fly.  Thomas and I are off to London in about a month and I don’t fancy having to make the journey by train.  I guess I should make an appointment with you for a few days before so you can give me a fit to fly certificate just in case.”
“Oh, that’s right! You have your trip coming up. I’m sure that will be exciting.” Drew smiled at her, cocking his head just slightly to one side. “I’d be happy to write that up for you, provided I believe you’re actually safe up in the air, my dear. How long of a train ride is it, anyway? Sixteen, eighteen hours? That definitely sounds miserable.”

[Text] Of course, it’s only natural that he would be. Just tell me which language you would prefer that I speak to him in, and I’ll use that language for him. I’d rather make him as comfortable as possible when meeting me.
[Text] It must be difficult enough being in a new place and getting acclimated. He shouldn’t have to feel stress meeting new people if they know how to make that meeting a little easier for him.
[Text] Let’s start with French, then. Eventually, I’d like him to get practice speaking Italian with people outside of school, but as you said, the less stressful we can make this period of transition for him, the better. He’s already experienced so much since arriving in Italy. He’d barely been here a week when Montague was sentenced.

Megan lay back on the pillows with a chuckle, “Well this is certainly an interesting change of topic from what I was expecting.  It makes a change to how tight is my chest feeling and what my blood oxygen level is.”   She lifted her glass and took a sip of water sighing, “Somehow I doubt this incident is going to encourage them to lift my alcohol ban.”
Drew gave his friend a pointed look. “As pleasant as the effects of alcohol can be, you know as well as I do that its side effects can outweigh them,” he told her. “I would be surprised if anyone here would recommend alcohol for you anytime soon. But yoga, meditation, some of the more calming methods of submission--those are all great ways to take care of yourself and perhaps get you to a point where you can enjoy a drink on occasion again.”

“Ok! Great!” Adelaide quickly typed in her phone number along with her name - Adelaide Robinson - and the note ‘Coffee shop librarian’ so he would remember who she was later. “There you are. Text me whenever you can. I look forward to hearing from you. Bye!” readjusting her bag on her shoulder, she gave him a small wave as she walked out and back towards her next chore.

Megan listened to Drew confirm what she had already suspected.  It was clear she was going to have to make some kind of change, probably several changes to her approach to things if she was going to avoid ending up in hospital again and particularly having surgery which appeared to become more likely each time she was taken in.  “I’ll speak to Jared next time I have a scene arranged with him and we can focus more on that.  See if I can sink into subspace as quickly with that as I can with some other activities.”  She wiggled her eyebrows at him with a light laugh as she lay back against the pillows again.  “Maybe if I try to practise some yoga in bed while I’m here they will let me go home quicker, what do you think?”
“Don’t worry about how quickly subspace comes,” Drew said, patting her hand lightly again. He knew she was joking around, but he wanted her to be prepared. “A lot of the more intricate bondage takes quite a bit of time to come together, and it’s certainly a lot slower than getting into a scene of impact play, for example, even with a warm up included. I personally find shibari to be one of the deeper subspaces I get into, once I get there, though.” He chuckled at the mental image of her doing yoga right there in the tiny hospital bed. “Perhaps. It’s always worth a try,” he added, grinning at her.

Megan laughed softly at Drew’s teasing though her smile fell a little.  “I was thinking of trying yoga again.  I’m sure Ophelia still does some and there are plenty of programmes on youtube.”  Biting her lip she paused for a moment before asking, “As you rightly said we both love giving up control so I wonder if doing some more intense bondage scenes might help.  Do you think it would?  Having no choice because you can’t move, it seems like the ultimate way to relax and get deeper into subspace.”  She enjoyed bondage but it had always been part of a sexual scene in the end for her but now she couldn’t help think the act of that itself might help her.
“Yoga sounds like an excellent idea,” Drew said, and he smiled at her when he heard her question. “I think bondage is also quite the wonderful idea, particularly when that is the only activity you’re exploring with your partner at the time. Sometimes Master Cade is able to calm me down simply by pinning my wrists together,” he explained. “When we do a scene consisting strictly of bondage, it’s quite easy to get down into a calming subspace. I love feeling various ropes against my skin, knots appearing over time as Master Cade cares for me. Anything that will help you get into subspace, or at least to focus on your senses--particularly touch--is exactly what will help you reduce some of the stress in your life. Or rather, not reduce the stressor, but reduce your body’s reaction to it.”

“I should get going. But maybe we can talk again sometime soon?” She didn’t hide the hopeful note in her voice. She didn’t make friends easily, but he seemed like someone she could get along with and she was trying to be better about being more assertive with what she wanted.
Drew glanced down at his watch, his eyes widening in surprise at just how much time has passed. “Indeed!” he said, giving her a bright smile. He fished his phone out of his pocket and opened up a new contact screen before handing it over. “I’ll send you a text so you have my number as well.”

Megan nodded in agreement quickly with Drew’s remark about Freddie.  She had had plenty of time to go through the whole ‘what if’ scenarios over and over and if he hadn’t occurred she didn’t know what she would have done.   “Yeah, I’m here now and taking residence for a few days.”  Nodding at the question she  ran her hand over her face, closing her eyes for a moment, “It seems the most likely.  It’s not as if I’ve had a particularly quiet time of it recently.  There’s been so much change.”  She scoffed lightly, “I had been considering asking if I could go back to my apartment but with this on top of everything else even I know I need to stay at the Estate for a while longer for my own safety.”
“If it is simply stress-related, then that’s something that you will have more power over to control,” Drew pointed out, giving her a teasing smile as he continued. “I know how much you hate not being in control of some things--though you and I both know how nice it is to give up control at times.” He winked at her. “It’s hard to control all of the change that’s been going on in Verona lately, but you can still work to control your reaction to it. Dr. Lorenzo will get you all taken care of medicinally, but perhaps now’s the time to actually think about trying out some meditation.”

[Text] That’s alright. He can open up whenever he’s ready. I don’t expect him to think of me as a best friend right off the bat. My English and my French are fairly good, you can thank my previous jobs for that. Work for foreign diplomats, you kind of have to learn a thing or two so you can communicate with other security teams around the world.
[Text] Excellent. He’s more comfortable in French, obviously. We’re helping him with his Italian, but it will take time. Moving to Italy’s been a big change for him.

She let out a laugh tinged with exasperation at herself and her own behavior throughout this conversation. “Possibly, but I feel like I’ve done  more than fifty percent of the talking in this conversation, so still. Thank you. You must be a wonderful doctor if you’re able to get me to ramble on this much and listen so effectively. I’m sure your patients really trust you.”
“Thank you,” Drew countered, a pleased little smile forming on his features. Compliments about his abilities as a doctor were some of the best compliments he could get. “I would argue that we’ve both done our fair share of talking today, though. You shouldn’t be so self-conscious about it. It’s been a pleasure chatting with you today.”

Megan laughed bitterly at his teasing about resting, “At least if you were telling me to rest I could do it at home and not stuck in here.”  It was heart warming to see the glow around Drew as he spoke about Dom and Cade.  She would be lying if she didn’t say there was some jealousy at seeing Drew get everything where she felt like she had nothing right now but she was also delighted for him and knew he deserved all the happiness.  With a slight sigh she started her explanation again, missing out the parts that she knew would make him cross with her.  “I had been a bit tired for a few days but I went out to dinner with a few friends and as I left my chest started to get really tight and I couldn’t catch my breath.  Thankfully Freddie found me and called an ambulance.  My blood pressure was too high and that was putting a huge strain on my heart. Dr Lorenzo, my cardiologist said I don’t need surgery which is a huge relief but they are going to change my medication a bit to try and control my blood pressure better.
Drew grabbed Megan’s hand and rubbed his thumb soothingly along the back of it. “Thank God for Freddie,” he said softly. “And you’re here now. That’s what matters, right? Dr. Lorenzo is wonderful, and you’re in very capable hands here. I’m sure that he’ll get everything under control for you in no time.” He smiled and patted her hand before leaning back in his chair. “Do you think it’s stress-related?”

Megan looked up from her tablet as she heard the knock and her smile lit up as she saw it was Drew.  “It must be nice to be so popular,” she laughed as she heard his story.  “Sadly the doctors are saying I won’t get out until at least Tuesday so you had a bit of time.”  With a shrug she waved a hand vaguely over her face where the nasal cannula showed she was still receiving oxygen, “Apparently my blood oxygen levels are off and so they still won’t remove this.  At least I’m no longer dehydrated and they removed the IV this morning but I have been well warned that I rest or they will have to put it back in.  How are you all?”
Drew gave a small chuckle. “Really, I simply haven’t stopped by here in far too long. With Dom at home now, I’m spending almost all of my free time there. I wouldn’t have it any other way, of course,” he added with a smile. “I know it’s hard for you to actually follow a doctor’s orders and rest but that is exactly what I would have told you to do as well, I hope you know.” He was teasing, of course. “We’re doing all right. Dom’s still a bit shaken from the riots, and my office still needs a bit of work to get back to normal, but overall, we’re good. We’re just happy to be together, you know?” He smiled softly as he thought of his family. His family. God, when had he become so lucky? “Do you want to tell me what happened to land you here? Is it heart-related? We don’t have to talk about that, of course.”

[Text] Then I’ll gladly provide at least a small break. I really can’t wait to meet him.
[Text] Everything’s a bit overwhelming for him right now, so don’t be surprised if he’s a little on the shy side. He’ll open up more once he gets to know you better, and once his Italian improves. Remind me, how are your English and your French, Sir?
