Drex the Accursed
When I was running my first campaign, I had a couple of my players want to try their hand at running a game or two as well. This is where the idea for Drex was born. Built in DnD 4th, he was initially a defender.
See, 4th had this idea that the game should be structured like a video game and you had four class archetypes - defender, striker, controller, and leader. Very basically, striker is good at hitting things, controller is good at manipulating the playing field, leader could heal and provide buffs, and defender could hold an enemy's attention.
I crafted Drex based on the picture for the warden class. This iteration of the character would be a Warforged Warden, eventually able to protect his allies even from dragons.
When pondering a backstory, I loosely based my idea of a book series I read when I was younger. The idea for the character was that he had but one goal, slay the king of all demons.
In his first life, Drex swore a Paladin's Oath. The king of demons lay at the bottom of a labyrinthine dungeon, and to take the sacred mantle of the Paladin Drex swore to vanquish him. Despite divine power, Drex and his team failed and were slaughtered.
Turns out the gods are cruel and would hold Drex to that promise. So it would be that he would be reborn again and again until his Oath was fulfilled. Time and again Drex would be born anew, and each time he would have to discover his purpose and hope like hell he could finish the job.

My First Campaign
Several years ago I began hosting a game for a small group of friends. This game was known as Dungeons and Dragons.
Four of my friends sat down around a virtual table as I began to unravel the beginnings of a fantastic tale that would span time and space. Make no mistake though, this tale was not just told by myself but was spun with choices that my friends and their characters would make along the way.
I knew from the beginning what the stereotypes of running a game like this would entail and I tried to steer clear of them. My friends all started at level one, as one might do for their first game. The party consisted of a fighter, a sorcerer, a ranger, and a bard.
Their very first job was simple enough. Some village somewhere was in need of help and you're the good guys. Go get the bad guys. Turns out a wizard was harassing a local village and had summoned four elementals in preparation to level the place. Turns out, there's a reason that most adventuring parties start off with goblins or kobolds, but they managed to pull it off.
Looting the corpses as your typical loot goblins do, they managed to find a purple token. Our sorcerer noted strange magical energy coming from the trinket, and upon inspection saw a unique symbol. This symbol matched that of descriptions of the void or the infinitude of space. While they were unable to do anything with the token at the moment, they stowed it away in their bags and went to collect their reward.
