Studying during COVID
It’s been over a year since we have been in quarantine. With all this time staying home, one can say that it has given them an enormous amount of time to finish that essay or start on their project. This is not the case in not only my life but as well as many other people. Quarantine for most people was or is the time to start something new. Over the country, many people, especially younger folks, began something that they have never done before. At home workout videos were trending in the beginning of April, the youtuber Chloe Tingz gained thousands of views from her at home workout videos. Another popular trending activity in the beginning of the stay at home order was creating dalgona coffee (also known as whipped coffee),  dying the two strands of hair another color (green and blonde were the most popular in my opinion), or creating a Tik Tok account and scroll through hours of videos. I for one, admit to being a victim of wasting hours on TikTok.
With all of these things happening, has anyone really focused on the effects it had on their schoolwork? With asking various of my coworkers and friends, everyone has mentioned that the stay at home order has negatively affected their school work. Knowing that their grades have plummeted two letter grades down has anyone really taken action to fix their bad habits? From personal experience some couple things that I have taken in order to increase my school work includes various things such as:
Not doing my homework on my bed, A kitchen table would be a good option on where to do schoolwork. By doing homework in my bedroom, I am exposed to so many distractions such as the clutter of laundry on my floor or the sound my bed makes every time I reposition myself.
Finding the perfect quiet time. As someone who has children running around, crying, yelling around the house, I found doing my schoolwork at 12 am to be the best time for me to do my homework.
Schedule time wisely! In my opinion, I feel this is majorly overlooked upon. Most students wait until the last minute to view lecture videos in order to do a test. This can be hurtful in a sense that you are cramming too much information into your brain! What I personally like to do is view lecture videos at least 5 days before a test so that I have a short time period to relax my brain.
These three concepts have really changed my bad behavior of not caring about school. There was a time where I considered dropping out of college because I could not for god’s sake pay attention to what I was learning. By changing my behavior, not only has my grades increased but also my mental health. These are just my tips on how I boosted my mindset to doing schoolwork during the quarantine. If anyone has other great ideas that help not only me but thousands of other students feel free to comment them!
