Galaxy Note 8: Availability, Pricing and Release Information
#AT&T #GalaxyNote8 #Samsung #Sprint #T-Mobile #Unpacked17 #USCellular #Verizon
Earlier today, Samsung announced the long-rumored and much-anticipated Galaxy Note 8 flagship smartphone. The private unveiling dubbed Unpacked 17 was livestreamed in many countries from New York City, as the South Korean giant unfolded last year’s and now-deceased Galaxy Note 7successor. As expected, the phone brings the latest in technology to fruition with a revamped set of features and specs…

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has been unveiled in New York City and via livestream at Unpacked 17, and the successor to the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 that some believed would never arrive on the market has dawned.
After reporting on the arrival of the phone itself, we know that many of you might be interested in getting your hands on accessories for the Galaxy Note 8. Depending on the customer, these accessories can help get the most from the new Samsung smartphone and introduce new capabilities to the market. If you are considering the upgrade, one or more of these accessories may interest you or could even sway you to buy the new Galaxy model. Let’s dive in!
DeX Station
The DeX Station first debuted with Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, allowing customers to place their phone on the device and extend their phone screen to a larger monitor by way of an ethernet cable. “DeX” is short for “Desktop Experience,” and the goal is to extend the functionality of what you can do on your smartphone while charging on the DeX Station. Those looking to be more productive should give the DeX Station a try.
#gallery-0-4 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-4 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-4 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-4 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
The DeX Station returns with the Galaxy Note 8, letting you extend your phone to a full desktop monitor or TV for whatever reason you may need. DeX now allows you to continue conference calls without interruption, and Samsung today added a bevy of new partners.
Phone Accessories
Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8, as is true for all phones, needs a protective case, and Samsung will have your new productivity device performing well and looking great.
First, there are two new clear covers for the Galaxy Note 8: a Clear View Cover and a Clear View Standing Cover. As the names suggest, these cases are designed to show off the design of your brand new Galaxy Note 8. The new device has a bezel-less look and a dual-edge display that you’ll want to show off to your relatives and friends.
The Clear View Standing Cover takes the Clear Cover look a step further: whereas the Clear View Cover shows off your phone only, the Clear View Standing Cover for the Galaxy Note 8 allows you to stand your Galaxy Note 8 up and watch TV shows, movies, and YouTube videos.
Fast Wireless Charger Convertible
The fast wireless charger convertible is another special accessory for Samsung Galaxy users, as it allows device owners to charge their handset without plugging it directly into the wall, even at a fast rate. The wireless charger convertible can extend itself to a stand if you need it, or stay as a flat-lying charging pad if you desire. You can switch between the two modes, something that isn’t possible with the Korean giant’s earlier charging pads. The new wireless charger convertible comes in Black and Gold colors, which blend well with some of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 color options.
256GB MicroSD card
Another accessory in Samsung’s lineup is a 256GB microSD card. Samsung manufactures its own microSD cards in the same way that it makes its own SSDs, wireless charging pads, cases, and battery power banks. The microSD card can store all different kinds of data including even VR games so that those interested in Gear VR with Controller don’t have to worry about a storage shortage.
Battery Pack (5,100mAh)
Power banks, or battery packs, are known for extending battery life, and Samsung is back with another accessory of this kind made for the Galaxy Note 8. The new 5,100mAh power bank for the Galaxy Note 8 bears the model number EB-PG950 and gives you extra juice for on the go. You can choose between Blue and White colors.
Keyboard Cover
The Keyboard Cover first debuted on the Galaxy Note 5, so it’s understandable that Samsung would continue with this accessory. If you’re looking for a physical keyboard on which to type emails and texts but want to be able to remove the keyboard at times, Samsung’s Keyboard Cover for the Galaxy Note 8 is what you need.
The Galaxy Note 8 Keyboard Cover serves two purposes: first, it’s a physical keyboard when you want to type out an email and feel the keys beneath your fingers as if you’re typing at a stationary desktop PC. Next, it serves as a cover, protecting your phone from damage. The Keyboard Cover doesn’t get in the way: when you’re done with the keyboard, put the cover on the back of your phone and go back to adoring the Infinity Super AMOLED display once more.
LED View Cover
The LED View Cover for the Galaxy Note 8 is designed to give you access to the display without having to even open the case to do it. The LED View Cover projects the time in such a way that the case highlights the time rather than hides it; you won’t have to open the case to know what the time is throughout your day. The LED View Cover lets you swipe to dismiss or answer calls, access notifications, and so on, so you can keep your phone protected and make the most of its functionality too. Three colors are available: Black, Blue, and Purple.
Clear View Standing Cover
The Clear View Standing Cover for the Galaxy Note 8 allows you to place your display in landscape mode and stand it up on a flat surface such as a table, desktop or counter-top. It comes in three colors.
Alcantara Cover
The Galaxy Note 8 is a sleek and smooth device already, but some buyers are strong believers in protection and don’t want to lose that sleek feeling with a case. The Alcantara Cover for the Galaxy Note 8 is designed for those who want more of a suede feel to their device as well as a case to protect their new “precious beauty.” The Galaxy Note 8 Alcantara Cover, in addition to its suede feel, is also stain-resistant, durable, scratch proof, and hand-washable with soap and water. There are 4 colors to choose from: Black, Pink, Green, and Gray.
Protective Standing Cover
The Protective Standing Cover for the Galaxy Note 8 is one of Samsung’s newest additions. The new cover is military-grade in its constitution, meaning that it can withstand bumps, drops and impacts of all kinds. The device is not only protective but also a standing cover, with a kickstand on the back of the case that props up your Galaxy Note 8 when you want to watch multimedia content. The kickstand is detachable from the Protective Standing Cover so that it won’t break if too much pressure is applied to it. The Protective Standing Cover comes in two colors: Black and Blue.
Protective Cover
The Protective Cover for the Galaxy Note 8 is more of a Clear View case that lets the design of the device shine while still providing protection for your device. The case is only 0.95mm thick and comes in 4 colors: Black, Blue, Lavender (Light Purple), and Gold.
2Piece Cover
The 2Piece Cover for the Galaxy Note 8 gives you two small pieces to cover the top and bottom portions of your new device. The 2Piece Cover, announced earlier this year for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, feature suction pads with different colors that could be mixed and matched, but Samsung has reigned in its color choices by eliminating the bright greens and pinks to stick with sleek colors such as Black, Blue, and Purple.
The 2Piece Cover protects the most vulnerable parts of the Galaxy Note 8, especially the dual rear cameras that have now graced the Galaxy Note for the first time, along with the bottom portions of the device including the USB Type-C port and speaker. You still have access to your device’s ports and all because the remainder of the Galaxy Note 8 is “naked,” but at least there’s some protection where it counts.
Samsung has a large number of accessories for Galaxy Note 8; there really is something for everyone. Every Galaxy Note 8 will ship with AKG jack earphones ($99 value) and customers can add a new case, the DeX Station for enhanced productivity, new Gear 360, or the 2017 Gear VR headset and controller, to suit their tastes and needs. These accessories are designed to add style and functionality to what is already one of the most functional smartphones on the market. Galaxy Note 8 buyers can also pick up an additional S Pen if the first gets lost. Samsung describes the pen as the new “intelligent” stylus that comes with more pressure points and greater sensitivity so that it feels more like an everyday pencil or pen. The intelligent S Pen can now translate full sentences into native languages and convert currency right before your eyes on the screen.
Feel free to let us know in the comments which, if any of the accessories will you be picking up, and check out some of our other Samsung Unpacked 17 coverage in the slider below.

Samsung Unpacked 17 is concluding in NYC as we speak and the Galaxy Note 8 announcement has taken place. Samsung is hoping that this year’s Galaxy Note won’t have its own share of issues, as was the case with last year’s Galaxy Note 7. To see how the Galaxy Note 8 stacks up with previous Galaxy handsets from a design standpoint, you’ve come to the right place.
With Galaxy Note 8, Samsung is trying to beat the heavy hitters on the market and those that will soon enter the market by providing its very best in design, hardware internals and software features. Samsung has been doing it as good as anyone since the very beginning, and the Galaxy Note 8 is no slouch.
[smoothslider id=’3′]
The Galaxy Note 8 is super thin and lightweight, and includes cutting-edge hardware and software. It comes with a dual rear camera combo, which is a first for any Galaxy flagship. The 18.5:9 screen aspect ratio, a first for the Galaxy Note family, will improve landscape viewing and one hand operation with the phone thanks to minimized bezels. Bixby, Samsung’s virtual assistant, will be a new experience for Galaxy Note customers by bringing the smarts right when needed. Making a return from Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are the on-screen software navigation buttons, the back-mounted fingerprint sensor, iris scanner, and fast wireless charging. Now is not a bad time to upgrade if you have the cash Sammy’s asking for.
The famous S Pen has also made its return on Galaxy Note 8 and it’s better than ever. Samsung expects the S Pen on Galaxy Note 8 to provide an even more enjoyable experience for folks who want to “do more” with their device. The Galaxy Note 8 stands out not because of its specification sheet, but more so because of its S Pen. This has been one of the greatest selling points of the Galaxy Note series, and the upgraded smart stylus won’t disappoint on this year’s model.

One year ago around this time of year, Samsung had no clue what they’d be in for. The Galaxy Note 7 massacre was arguably the worst series of events to ever take place in the smartphone industry, at least in all my years of doing this. 2016 was not only one of the worst years of the South Korean giant’s history, but in all of the Android ecosystem so we like to call it here on Droid Turf. This year, during Unpacked 17 in NYC, Samsung unveiled the much-anticipated Galaxy Note 8, which in our mind is the successor to last year’s recalled Galaxy Note 7. Whether it will do more good than bad for the company is still a question that will be answered this fall.
[smoothslider id=’3′]
The Galaxy Note is what pioneered the phablet category. It’s the reason why smartphones nowadays are getting only bigger. Since the very beginning, the Galaxy Note series has brought industry firsts, and this year, the all-new Galaxy Note 8 brings a radical change is design unlike anything we’ve ever seen with past iteration Galaxy Note devices. Samsung has taken a bold stance and we think you’re going to like it, in fact, it’d surprise us if you don’t.
Despite the thinking that Samsung would ditch the Galaxy Note moniker after all the implications it had on people, the environment and the company’s own brand image last year, Samsung has gone ahead with the announcement of a new model for 2017. Each year, fans and power users around the globe look forward to a new Galaxy Note thanks to its proven evidence to be one the most influential.
Thanks to a bunch of leaks, rumors and reports, most of us got an idea of what to expect from this new model before the annual showcase began. However, Samsung did leave some nice surprises. Here’s a full roundup that should answer all if not most of your questions about Samsung’s “Next big thing,” the Galaxy Note 8.
As some of you probably know, Samsung has had quite the turnaround from 2016. The company’s stock hit new heights, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ became the hottest selling Android devices ever made, and Samsung’s reported results for Q1 and Q2 saw record gains in revenue and profits. The same can not be said about other Android manufacturers who have expressed continuing struggles into 2017. To change the minds of hesitant Galaxy customers, Samsung has gone above and beyond with this year’s Galaxy Note 8 to ensure that history won’t repeat itself. Galaxy Note 8 is certified using a new eight-point battery safety check, an added manufacturing process first implemented with Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. And as usual, Samsung has compromised this year’s Galaxy Note in no way, to make sure that every user has just what they have been looking for. Whether the phone will live up to all of our expectations will untimely come down to our full review.
If you thought Samsung was done innovating, shame on you! Change is in the air and for Galaxy Note 8, Samsung invested years of experience and know-how to engineer best in-class hardware and design. Galaxy Note 8 has a 6.3-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED 18.5:9 Infinity display coated in Corning Gorilla Glass 5. And as they do with every Galaxy flagship, the AMOLED screen technology has been tuned to offer best in-class color reproduction with high contrast, exceptional brightness for outdoor visibility, and true to life colors. Enhanced HDR Video is here, and in case you accidentally drop your phone in a bit of water, the IP68 certification will protect your Galaxy Note 8 in water up to 5 feet deep for 30 minutes.
There’s no word that can describe how beautiful the Galaxy Note 8 looks in person. Samsung’s signature curved dual-edge panels wrap around the sides giving the illusion that the phone is completely bezel-free, and on Galaxy Note 8, they’re steeper than on earlier models. The back is made of metal and the sides of glass, which melt into each other giving to the rounded backside. Gone are all the unnecessary elements (bezels, logos, branding), allowing the device to be held and in some circumstances, interacted with using only a single hand. Like on Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, there’s no physical home button but instead customizable software keys and an invisible button hidden beneath the front glass. Samsung’s fingerprint reader has been relocated to the back of the phone since Galaxy Note 7, which allows for more immersive multimedia and VR experiences. This is a given thanks to the screen-to-body ratio of over 80%.
To continue modern smartphone design trends, Samsung has elected to go with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio on Galaxy Note 8. This is in contrast to 16:9, so expect taller but narrower screen dimensions. Samsung has loaded the latest version of Samsung Experience UI, which uses up the extra screen real estate to add features and small touches. Though, some drawbacks of the new format still remain, such as letter-boxing while watching some video content. Powering Samsung’s new clad will be either the Snapdragon 835 processor, or Exynos 8895 chipset, which is equally good in supplying day-to-day performance and battery life. Samsung has finally made the upgrade to 6GB of RAM, which should add to one’s experience switching between apps.
Taking a look underneath the hood we have a large 3,300mAh battery, though it’s still smaller than the Galaxy S8+ 3,500mAh capacity. Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 will be at the ready via USB Type-C and fast wireless charging is on board as well. Other notable hardware include an air gap with built-in cooling system to prevent overheating.
For starters, the Galaxy Note 8 will come with 64GB of storage. But if you’re looking to pay a bit more, Samsung has 128GB and 256GB variants of the smartphone. Additionally, microSD card support is present and can add up to an extra 256GB of memory. This port along with a SIM card tray, power button, and volume controls have been placed along the sides of the handset with addition to a hardware button for Samsung’s new voice assistant “Bixby,” which uses machine learning and AI to provide a personalized and ever-improving experience. And now, Bixby brings ‘Quick Commands’ designed to complete complex tasks with a set phrase. For example, saying “Good Night” can turn notifications off and put the phone’s blue-light filter on. On the back of the phone you’ll have your fingerprint scanner and heart rate monitor. Iris scanning and facial recognition are also on board with of course MST and NFC for Samsung Pay, the most widely accepted form of mobile payment out there.
Now for the part we know you’ve all been waiting to hear about, camera. The Galaxy Note 8 is the first-ever Samsung flagship with a dual rear camera combination. One is a 12MP rear shooter with Dual Pixel Multi-Frame processing, OIS, f/1.7 and a 1.4µm pixel size for crisp low-light shots with up to 2X zoom, and the other is an 8MP telephoto lens for shooting in wide-angle. Both feature optical image stabilization (OIS) for each photos and videos, the first for a smartphone. Neither protrudes and dual LED flash is for use on the phone’s back. The front camera is an 8MP lens capable of shooting 30fps, 1080p video. It’s extra special thanks to smart auto-focusing and OIS.
#gallery-0-4 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-4 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; } #gallery-0-4 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-4 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
On the software front, Galaxy Note 8 gets it right with Android 7.1.1 Nougat. And best of all, it shouldn’t be long before Android O and a fresh batch of security patches make way via an over-the-air update. See our Droid Updates Weekly Series. Google’s latest software will bring about a range of new features including doze on the go, bundled notifications, split screen multitasking, enhanced security, new emoji, and a new Vulkan API for better overall graphics performance. Also preset will be some Android 7.1.1 Nougat (MR1) features like app shortcuts, GIF touch keyboard support, live wallpaper metadata, and more. Perhaps the greatest addition is the Google Assistant, which will come in addition to Bixby Voice. Both assistants will learn about you and improve with time using incorporated fifth-generation programming technology. To top everything off is Samsung’s updated Experience UI on top of Android that performs faster now than it did before.
Among other new features are Harman AKG sound and audio headphones. A first for the Galaxy Note series, the Galaxy Note 8 features enhanced audio output through both the device’s 3.55mm headphone jack and outward-firing speakers. This will provide a wider amplitude, crisper audio, deep bass, and clear treble that will remind you of what it feels like to be at a live concert. And to top it off, Galaxy Note 8 will come with a pair of Harman AKG audio headphones ($99 value) in every box. Still, Samsung managed to create a visually striking and premium looking phone, something other manufacturers struggle to do itself. On Galaxy Note 8, you’ll also find all the typical sensors such as Bluetooth 5.0, 802.11/a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi, various fitness tracking sensors, and more. The only thing that seems to have been left out is support for Google Daydream, the virtual reality platform from Google, though support could easily be added with a software update.
2017 may just entail the greatest looking lineup of Android flagship smartphones we’ve ever seen and it’s definitely going to be an interesting market to watch. Samsung will begin its global release of Galaxy Note 8 on September 15 in over 100 countries. In order to avoid competition that is on the nearby horizon, Samsung will allow you to buy a Galaxy Note 8 in select regions from select retailers and carriers starting tomorrow, August 24. This year’s handset will become available on most cell carriers with addition to an unlocked model that will be sold by Samsung and some retailers. As a reminder, buyers can sign up for the company’s return program, ‘Samsung Premium Care,’ which allows one to return the device for a full refund or get a single screen replacement within a certain time frame with the only cost being a small monthly fee. Buyers of the Galaxy Note 7 can also snag a discount for a limited time.
Samsung’s new Galaxy Note will come in choice of Midnight black, Orchid Gray, Maple Gold, Deepsea Blue color options, but availability will vary by location and carrier. Pricing for the unlocked model has not yet been announced, but Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint, Cricket, and U.S. Cellular have all confirmed the phone’s availability, and buying early will of course spare you some free goodies. We’ll have a separate post detailing availability, any deals you should know about and the handset’s release information coming later today. Be sure to bookmark this page and return back as the news continues to pile up. Those interested in buying the phone can also sign-up for email status updates over at Samsung.com. Be sure to let us know your initial thoughts about the next Galaxy in the comment section below this post.

Lenovo’s Moto Z2 Force has made its way to markets, but the rumored Moto X4 has yet to appear.
We’ve heard a great deal about the upcoming smartphone, starting from its incremental moniker to its spec sheet, to a social media photo that mimics what one would expect of press renders. And yet, we know that press renders differ from a device being out in the wild.
Fortunately, we haven’t had to wait too long to see the Moto X4 in all its glory. To this end, Jerry Yin has leaked the device, its front display as well as the back cover. The real-time photos confirm what we expect of the mid-range Motorola smartphone.
First, there’s the display, surrounded by top and bottom bezels. The “Moto” label is up top, followed by a rather short home button/fingerprint sensor beneath the display. The virtual software buttons remain, and, as any good “Nexus” and “Pixel” fan knows, you always keep the back button to the left, not the right at the bottom of the display. The icons remain as expected, for the Android Messenger icon, Google Chrome, Google Photos, Camera, and Phone apps. There is a microphone to the left of the home button with a speaker, microphone, and selfie camera up top to the right of the “Moto” branding. The Moto X4 has a flat display, not surprising for the mid-range.
#gallery-0-4 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-4 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-4 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-4 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
The back cover shows the Moto X4 with its dual cameras, which matches the rumor from reliable sources. The dual flash is above the two rear cameras (left and right), and the camera hump remains with a circular ring around it. The device appears to have curved edges on its back cover, and the glass design on the front and back also confirms what we’ve seen with the Moto X4. The Moto X4 leaked by Jerry Yin is in a Blue Sapphire or Sapphire Blue color, though the leaked press render showcased a Gold color for the Moto X4. These leaks show at least two colors for the Moto X4, though there could be more.
As for what we know regarding the Lenovo Moto X4, the device is said to feature a 5.2-inch, Full HD (1,920 x 1,080p) display, the Snapdragon 660 SoC, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage with a microSD card slot, a 3,000mAh battery, and Android 7.1.1 Nougat pre-installed. Motorola could announce its upcoming mid-ranger this week on Thursday, August 24. Android Oreo (Android 8.0) is here, and though it doesn’t appear to be installed, we have no doubt that the Moto X4 will see it at some point.
And, for the cherry on top, the Moto X4 is rumored to be the first Project Fi-compatible phone that isn’t from Google (it’s from Lenovo-owned Motorola). Hopefully, this moves Google to bring more Fi-compatible phones in the future. The Moto X4 is expected to arrive on the market for purchase in Q4 of 2017.

Late last week, ASUS held a brief event in the country of Taiwan, the location where many smartphones are manufactured. The company introduced not one nor two, but four new entrants to the ZenFone 4 family of mid-range smartphones. The lineup consists of ZenFone 4, ZenFone 4 Pro, ZenFone 4 Selfie, and ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro. All are expected to be moderately priced, though availability has not yet been confirmed for US customers.
The ASUS ZenFone 4 Pro is the most premium of the bunch with its 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display, Snapdragon 835 processor, dual rear cameras, and 3,600mAh battery. Since it features some specs that can be found even on the utmost powerful Android flagship smartphones on the market today, it’ll presumably be priced above the other phones. ASUS says it will be available in both White and Black.
The standard ZenFone 4 is more of the phone for everybody. It’s a step down spec-wise from the ZenFone 4 Pro, but should get you more for your buck. ZenFone 4 features a 5.5-inch Full HD screen and is powered by Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 660 processor with 6GB RAM. It has 64GB of internal storage space and is packed with a 3,300mAh cell that should provide all-day battery life. On the device’s rear, a 12MP camera with OIS and an aperture of f/1.8 is present. Colors will be the same as ZenFone 4 Pro with addition to Mint Green.
The other two in the family are the ZenFone 4 Selfie and ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro. As you may have guessed, the ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro will have a bit more to offer such as a Full HD AMOLED display, 24MP front camera shooter, Snapdragon 625, and 4GB of RAM. It’ll come in choice of Rouge Red, Sunlight Gold and Deepsea Black. The standard model will be priced more conservative, but instead of the 24MP front camera, you’ll get a 20MP lens. The ZenFone 4 Selfie will also have a lower-end processor, though it’s unconfirmed at this moment. Color options will include Sunlight Gold, Rose Pink, Deepsea Black, and Mint Green.

Pricing has not yet been confirmed, and availability for the US is uncertain. We’ll keep you posted shall we learn more. For now, check out some of the images scattered throughout this post and let us know if you’d consider one for yourself, pending the price of course.
