eek! more chapter one stuff. mostly battle details !

Cylvia is good at puzzles but not so much at battles. the limited amount of control Kris has often messes her up wrt combat, but tbh she's just not great at it in general. saving is an in-universe action she performs frequently although she doesn't know that's what she's doing. she just sort of reaches for the light and knows that it heals the party. she can save using Kris's arms, but it weirds out the other party members (because they don't see the save stars) so generally she reaches toward them with her own (barely visible at this point) arms. the light of save points is the only light source that actually appears to illuminate her outline in any way. i think it mostly goes without saying but even when she's not completely invisible most people can't see her (and when they can, they think she's a trick of the light)

despite the fact that it's their soul, Kris feels little to no pain when Cylvia gets injured in battle. i think this probably changes in later chapters to gradually be more and more like the two of them are sharing it, but in chapter 1 the only reason they go down when Cylvia takes one too many hits is because Cylvia is controlling them. they don't actually feel much of it. this is probably a good thing considering how Cylvia gets significantly better at combat in later chapters (and, in turn, sucks bad at it during most of ch1).

Cylvia is a pretty good battle tactician all things considered. she tells Ralsei and Susie what to do by floating over their shoulders and whispering in their ears. from ch2 onwards Kris starts commenting a little on her battle strategy. they still trust her with strategy (and it's not like they have any other choice BUT to trust her) it's mostly just friendly banter and/or the occasional question on wtf she is even doing. because it is hard to follow sometimes. especially considering she gets information they don't. oh yeah speaking of which

since Cylvia is sorta kinda a soulsona she gets info that only the player is supposed to have (for example thoughts of other characters). this isn't really super relevant to this section as a whole i just was thinking about it so i added it here

the separation at the end of the chapter is not nearly as violent as it is in the game. a lot of the same things happen VISUALLY but it's a mutual separation. like Cylvia goes flying towards the wall the cage is against but only due to the force of the separation not bc Kris like. threw her. and she doesn't get locked in there. she just sort of. stands around bc she realizes she has fuck all to do as an invisible amnesiac. probably goes to sleep tbh. in asriel's bed probably. and then she wakes up like floating in the air next to Kris and is like FUCK we're tethered again

^ was gonna end it there but i realized i have not elaborated on the amnesiac part yet. Cylvia does not remember much of their past like at all. they don't even remember what they look like (and that's why they're almost impossible to see most of the chapter). they have some foggy memories about themself but basically none about literally anything else. so even when separated they don't really have anywhere to go or anything to do because they have no idea where they came from or what their life was like before this

ok im going to start with the specific form she takes bc it's different than most that i've seen. Cylvia is sort of like a ghost that just is like obligated to hang out near Kris. the soul, Kris's soul, hovers in her chest instead of theirs- not an arrangement either of them are happy about. at first to Kris, it looks sort of like their soul is just out of their chest and leading them around; after they enter the Dark World for the first time Cylvia starts to speak and eventually a hazy outline of her appearance starts to fade in around the soul. her features are hard to make out- she's human, definitely, but focusing on any specific thing seems to give Kris a headache. also there hasn't been a good point to mention this yet but Cylvia is nonbinary and uses she/they pronouns i've just been using she bc it's a clear distinction between her and Kris lol

Cylvia is pretty chatty and comments on like everything in the dark world as if it's her first day alive. she is so busy doing this she forgets to say anything as Kris, accidentally making them come off as quiet/intimidating(?) to basically everyone they meet. whatever put her here intended for her to have total control, so Kris has a lot of trouble even doing simple tasks completely on their own. Cylvia really does not want to be in control of someone else's life, and often before she makes Kris do anything she searches for some sign from them. usually she reads these correctly but they are so miniscule she definitely messes up at least a few times lol. Kris is not really pleased with this arrangement as a whole but can't find it in themself to be actually mad at Cylvia; seems like they're both just victims of some weird as fuck circumstance. they do find her slightly annoying, though

somewhere out there right now is a kid with curly hair being raised by people who have wavy hair at best and those people are giving them 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner and telling them to dry brush it. and that kid is gonna spend all of middle school and high school hating their hair and moping over the flat iron. they're being told right now that if they don't dry-brush their curl pattern into oblivion every morning it means they're unkempt and gross even though they naturally have the kind of ringlets that a thousand bridezillas would commit horrible murders for every june. it's happening right now it's an absolute epidemic and a tragedy every time

if deltarune stored the info of the vessel i made back in like 2018 and is planning to use it at some point i simply will not recognize her. if she's just like walking around somewhere i'll go "oh cool :)" and the implication will go completely over my head
