Lasik Laser for Removal of glasses
At Bajaj Eye Care Centre, we are using the latest CARL ZEISS MEL 80 Excimer Laser for LASIK. It is the most advanced and safe procedure for vision correction in the world
Different Lasik Procedures
LASIK or Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis corrects all types of refractive errors (Eyeglass Power) like Myopia (Minus) Hyperopia (Plus) and Astigmatism (Cylinder). It can aslo correct mixed powers.
LASIK is the most popular laser vision correction procedure in the world today. It is a two stage procedure. The first step is creation of a flap o 90 to 110 micron thickness. The flap is then retracted which exposes the corneal stroma called "the bed".
The second step is to modify the curvature of the cornea by laser shots or "ablation" on the bed to produce an uninterrupted surface. The flap is then pulled back and sticks to the bed quickly and there is no need of any stitches or bandage. The vision becomes good immediately after the procedure and gets better with time and in nearly all cases becomes perfect in one day.
Wavefront Guided Lasik
Wavefront is measurement of light rays coming out of the eye. This Wave Optimized LASIK measures the distortion of rays by aberrations in the eye. Wavefront Guided LASIK corrects corneal aberrations offering a possibility of superior vision which is better than vision correction by eye glasses or contact lenses.
SBK Lasik
SBK or Bourman's Keratomileusis Sub is a thin flap LASIK. In conventional LASIK the flap created is of 120 to 180 microns thickness whereas in SBK LASIK, a much thinner flap of 90 to 110 microns is created
Advantages of SBK Lasik
Less weakening of corneal biomechanics, less risk of eclasia, better stabilty
Faster visual recovery
Better contrast sensitivity
Fewer complications, less glare, fewer holes
Less incidence of post operative dry eye
Reduced loss of corneal sensitivity
Greater flap thickness predictability

Paediatric ophthlmology and squint
A squint (strabismus) is a condition where the eyes point in different directions.
Signs and symptoms of a squint
One of your child's eyes may turn inwards, outwards, upwards or downwards, while the other eye looks forward. Squints may not be constant, and a minor squint isn't always obvious.
A squint can cause blurred or double vision, but children may not realise there's a problem.
Left untreated, lazy eye (amblyopia) can develop. This is when the brain starts to ignore signals coming from the eye with the squint.
How are squints treated?
To be most successful and avoid long-term problems, most squints should be treated as soon as possible. Treatment is most effective in very young children.
Several types of treatment are available for squints, including:
Glasses – worn constantly to correct vision problems (refractive errors). Children are usually given plastic lenses instead of glass.
Eye exercises – in some cases, special eye exercises may help the eyes to work together.
Botulinum toxin injections into one of the eye muscles – the injection weakens the muscle, allowing the eyes to realign for around three months. The eyes may stay in position or may need further treatment. Children will usually be given a sedative before the injection.
Squint surgery
If other treatments aren't successful, surgery will probably be required. This involves moving the muscles that control the movement of the eye to improve their alignment and help the eyes work together.
Risks from surgery are rare, although sometimes more than one operation will be needed.

Are you a suitable candidate for the LASIK procedure?
When people have been affected by vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism all their life, they want nothing more than to be rid of wearing glasses or contact lenses once and for all. And the perfect solution for this is to undergo a LASIK procedure which is surgical procedure carried out using laser technology in order to correct an individual’s vision. And when you do decide to undergo the procedure, there will be a lot of questions floating through your head, such as ‘’how do I get the entire process started?’’, ‘’who should I approach regarding this?’’ and so on. But we believe that one of the most important questions regarding this procedure is, ‘’am I a suitable candidate for the procedure?’’ And we are here to provide you with facts and details so that you can come with the answer yourself.
First things first:
One of the most important pre-requisites to undergoing the LASIK procedure is that you should have a visual problem that can be corrected with this. Because this procedure is limited only to a certain number of vision related problems such as farsightedness, nearsightedness and astigmatism. Thereforeif you have any of the above mentioned problems, then you can think of going ahead with the LASIK procedure.
Am I ready for it?
Age also plays a role in the decision making process. Depending on what type of technology your doctor is planning to use for the procedure, you have to be wither 18 or 21 years of age in order to undergo the surgery. Added to this is also the fact that, despite your age you will have to have stable vision for a fixed period of time, before you undergo the LASIK procedure. Therefore your doctor will request to track your vision for stability for a period of time, to make sure that there is no further/ongoing deterioration.
With all of this information you might be able to get a good idea of whether you are able to undergo the procedure or not. But the finer details regarding the entire process has to be discussed with a LASIK expert. Because there can be instances where you have been rejected as a candidate for the LASIK procedure as a result of the technologies used in the past. But with the advent of modern day technology, it might mean that it is now possible for you to get your vision corrected through a LASIK procedure. Therefore you have discuss everything in detail with an expert, after which you can make a well informed decision.

Symptoms of Cataract
A Cataract is a clouding of the eye’s lens, the area that lies behind the iris and the pupil. Cataracts are said to be the main cause for blindness in the world, old people around after 40 years of age tend to lose their vision due to these Cataracts. These
Cataracts
develop slowly in one’s eyes and then increase, these have chances of affecting both eyes of the same person but it may not occur at the same time.
The Signs
When a person starts to experience blurredness while looking at things, for example, when looking at a glass, they may feel it is cloudy or while looking at the sun or a lamp or light, it may seem too glaring to the eyes. A cloudy or blurred feel occurs when looking at things and this is the start of Cataracts.
During night hours, the lights may seem too glary and the colours may appear dull. Driving would not seem easy and you may feel difficulty in looking at the road. Similarly, there are more symptoms for Cataracts. These will help you figure out that some problem has occurred.
Some of the symptoms may include;
Clouding of the vision, blurred feeling or dim vision.
Difficulty in sight during night hours.
Sensitive feeling towards light, a glare like feeling.
Feel like you need bright light while reading or other such activities ( difficulty in reading or seeing through short distance).
A ‘halos’ feeling around lights.
Experiencing frequent changes in the lens of the spectacle prescription.
Colours seem to fade or look yellowish.
Double vision in a single eye.
At the beginning, the cloudiness or denseness in the vision may affect only a small part of the eye lens which will not make you realize of any vision loss, as time goes, the Cataract will grow, the cloudy effect will increase in your eye lens causing a distort in the lights passing through the lens and thus, you will experience and notice more symptoms of the Cataract.
Would the Types of Cataracts affect the Symptoms?
The type of Cataract may differ from one person to another. There are several types of Cataracts that may develop in people. When finding out whether you have a Cataract developed, you will come to know the type of Cataract that has developed in you.
When a Nuclear cataract develops, it could create a temporary improvement in the person’s close vision, which is known as “second sight” but unfortunately, the improved vision is short-lived and would disappear as and when the Cataract would become worse. Likewise, when a person suffers a Subcapsular Cataract, that person will not experience any symptoms until the Cataract has developed well, or fully.
How Soon Should You See a Doctor?
As soon as you get cloudy visions, or notice a change in your sight, it is advised that you consult a doctor and get an eye test or eye exam done.
