Robert E. Thaxton, MD, FACEP, FAAEM, is an established emergency medicine physician and retired colonel from the U.S. Air Force, where he served in multiple regions throughout the world for 24 years (1992-2016). He conducted military assignments in Maryland, Texas, England, Mississippi, Afghanistan, and Iraq. “Over the past few centuries five professions have been recognized to have the highest ideals: clergy, physicians, lawyers, military officers, and teachers.  Over my career I have had the privilege to be part of four of them, physician, clergy, teacher, military officer.  It has allowed me a busy and rewarding career”, says Dr. Thaxton about his career choice. He is currently lending his exceptional set of skills and knowledge to serve patients as emergency medicine physician and partner in the Inwood Emergency Clinic, now Full Spectrum ER @ Inwood in San Antonio, Texas, which he joined in January 2016. As an emergency medicine physician, he has dedicated training and unique experience in the provision of care for undifferentiated and unscheduled patients with illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. Earlier in his career, Dr. Thaxton was a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America, former Chair of Ethics at the Wilford Hall Medical Center, and the past Chair of the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC) Professionalism Sub-committee. Robert E. Thaxton, MD, FACEP, FAAEM, attended F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, and was awarded his doctor degree of medicine in 1996. He subsequently completed a one-year surgical internship at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio in 1997, followed in 2003 by his residency in emergency medicine through the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC). Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Thaxton completed his undergraduate education at Brigham Young University in Utah. He is board certified in emergency medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and is also a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine. As a result of his outstanding performance in the field of emergency medicine, The International Association of HealthCare Professionals (IAHCP) has selected Robert E. Thaxton, MD, FACEP, FAAEM to be featured in the premier publication of The Leading Physicians of the World. He believes that he enjoys a successful career today due to his hard work and participation in community service.
