NXCRE & The Villains - USURPER utilizes a form of implied religious iconography with the whole ritualistic background in their music video and looking into music that utilizes imagery that implies religious iconography could also evoke a sense of brutishness but it is a topic to tread carefully on and I might want to discuss further if I were to go with this approach but it is an idea I will keep on the sidelines for the moment.

I started exploring more on the idea of chaos and randomness to which can arrive to the sense of being brutal and came across Wassily Kandinsky's Composition VIII.
The idea behind the artpiece is that in the fusion of lines, shapes and colours, there are sections of the piece which can take different forms based on the audience's perception and imagination.
This gave me the idea that I could possibly incorporate the sense of order or form in the brutishness of chaos and randomness. Similarly in class, the discussion that the audience may perceive meaning to something that may not have any meaning whatsoever is a creative approach I could take for my project.

Untitled by Jenny Holzer utilizes LED displays to show multiple texts in an enclosed space which can be overwhelming to audiences. I could capitalize on the experience that some people experience a wave of discomfort or feeling of being overwhelemed when presented with too much texts and/or numbers for my project.

In meme culture, there is a style of memes where random clips are bass boosted as a form of comedy and these clips are usually the context where these clips are used is they are sent to unsuspecting people and when the clip is opened, the bass boost catches them off guard.
Compilations of these clips, however, can be a brutal experience because of how it goes on over a period of time. I'm thinking of using this concept to deliver a brutish experience in my own project.

For this example, I returned to the idea of searching up sounds that were associated with cultures and societies from the past and were described as civilizations made up of brutish people; one of which were the Vikings.
A lot of the music associated to the Vikings consisted of a heavy drum base accompanied by low growling and other instrumentals which layer over each other over time and as it drags on, it evokes this brutish feeling.

One of my favorite artists, Scarlxrd, utilizes fast cuts and transitions of flashing lights, bursts of fast and slow video speeds and saturation to create an overstimulating effect and paired with his signature sound of vocal screaming and hard bass evokes a brutish style to his music.

The Murder of Crows by Janet Cardiff & George Bures Miller is an installation which utilizes 98 speakers surrounding an audience which simulates the experience of being caught in a massive flock of crows. The mixture of harsh sounds can be disorienting and be described as brutal by audiences experiencing the installation.

Pablo Picasso's Guernica depicts the bombing of the Spanish city of Guernica and shows the horrors of it. The shapes and forms of overlapping and randomness can be brutal for some audiences. For others, its certain parts of the painting that bring out the brutish feeling as they are more easily focussed on

The single, intense focus of light which hits the screen and creates a burst of white light which then becomes more frequent over time gives off the feeling that the darkness on the screen is being assaulted over time.

The combination of the video aesthetic and camera movements as well as the enclosed set creates this feeling that the imagery is assaulting the senses.
The old video style that creates this blurry, grainy texture works really well because I can't really make out any finer details and the focus is more on larger, drastic movements performed by the artists
