How to Choose a Defensive Handgun, Part IV: Controllability
For a given caliber, the larger the gun, the easier it is to shoot.  This is because the bigger and heavier the frame, the more recoil it absorbs.  Also, you can usually get a firm four-finger grasp on the larger-frame guns.   With short grips on sub-compacts or pocket guns, you can usually get only three fingers on the grip.
The smaller the gun, the more it bucks when you fire.  Also, the shorter the barrel, the poorer the accuracy, and the bigger the muzzle blast!
A common mistake is to start out new shooters - especially female new shooters - on subcompacts or pocket guns because these guns seem “dainty” and less intimidating.  These poor newbies end up psychologically scarred by the bigger blast and recoil, and feel frustrated when their shots end up all over the target paper.
As rule of thumb, newbies should learn to shoot on full-sized guns.  If budget considerations prevent you from buying a full-sized gun for training, then rent full-sized guns from the range.
Once you have attained adequate firing skill, you may then choose your ideal carry size.  For most people, the “ideal” concealed carry would probably be a compact or subcompact-sized gun.  However, you might like pocket guns depending on your lifestyle, wardrobe choices or concealment options.
With a barrel length of 3.46” and a weight of just 19.75 ounces, the subcompact Glock 26 9mm pistol pictured above is an ideal carry gun. The pistol has won widespread praise for its accuracy and durability.

Destiny

Friendship
Friendship
What's friendship? The hangover's faction, The gratis talk of outrage, Exchange by vanity, inaction, Or bitter shame of patronage.
