As they say, It is what it is. My 3 month work assignment is as good a reason as any to create my first blog.

The Aloft rules. A concierge will provide you options for dining outside the hotel. Akash, one of the aloft managers, takes it to a whole other level. He not only told us where to go but arranged transportation and went with us. The Tipsy Bull’s drink prices are market based. So while there we drove up the price of Bira. We, meaning Akash, Issom from Singapore and 3 other hotel guests. Akash also made sure we got back to the hotel in time so our Ukrainian friends could catch their flight home. Which was important because the wife of one of them was due to deliver their second baby any day. As with other bar and restaurant visits the people we met were great. So easy to talk to and get to know in a short amount of time. Of course, this happens at bars everywhere with drinks flowing.

Back at Lalbagh Gardens. Even I’m getting sick of taking and looking at pictures of trees. But had to make an exception for this one

Though Tiger is decent this IPA from Gage Roads Brewing from Australia was more my style. Our server at Pince & Pints said the key to this Japanese beer was the microfoam. Prompting me to tell my friend Pete about the time I decided to get fancy and order a pickle infused martini. Whatever, I thought. She actually had a point - it was good. Didn’t get a chance to try the Rogue. This shop had just opened and I would have gone back had I had more time.

Petronas Towers. For all the pictures on my phone of these towers I feel like I’m missing some key views. Like one with some kind of medium range distance.

KL skyline. Small world. Met someone at the top here who recognized my Nats hat. She was from a town close to where I live. She was on a trip with her mom celebrating graduation from the same school as me. It’s funny meeting people from home so far away from it. I felt like I could have talked to her and her mom for an hour. We had stuff in common - home town and baseball. And her mom was familiar with Bangalore and so it was nice to talk weather and traffic. She was also full of recommendations for other countries to visit. Actually now that I think about it part of the reason we could have talked for a long time was because her mom was pretty chatty. But I think what I enjoyed most about meeting them was that unexpected connection to home happening far from it. Though this experience has been great it’s another sigh that I’m ready to get back.

Batu Caves. One thing I learned on this trip to KL (and India before) is that I don’t like monkeys.

KL Bird Park - the “World’s Largest Free-flight Walk-in Aviary.” Never thought I’d visit one, let alone two aviaries on this trip.

Central market after breakfast. Tasted durian for the first time. Chive like aftertaste made it not so good.
