My addiction to Food Network
I am addicted to foodnetwork. It is the channel I have set to turn my TV on in the morning; I record cooking shows to watch whenever nothing else is on, I watch the same episodes various times, I browse their app and website: I am addicted.
I think it all started when I moved out of my parents’ house a few years back, and suddenly, I was entitled to CHOOSE which channels I could get from my TV provider. Naturally, as a food lover, I picked the Food Network. Not only had I moved out, but I had also bought an assortement of new pots and pans, kitchen tools and gadgets, you name it, I have it! I was a reborn cooking afficionada.
Not long after moving out however, I started getting these stomach and intestinal pains; but I’d sort of ignore them because I was not going to stop eating to see if the pains would diminish. Hum, hello, food is a big part of my life! The pains got to a point however where I no longer wanted to eat though, because the digestion would hurt too much. That didn’t mean I didn’t want to keep up with what was going on on my favorite channel though!
While sick, and feeding myself on Ensure, I found that watching the Food Network actually calmed my need for food, and I started “eating with my eyes”; feasting on all of the deliciousness on TV. I paid more attention to the technique and explanations given on certain shows, and found myself watching other cooking shows outside of the Food Network; whenever competitive shows would be on (I’m not into Chopped - and it’s always on!).
Anyway, I was finally diagnosed and treated and a few weeks later, got to start eating again and getting fat again. Now and again, whenever I decide to watch what I eat or try dieting (an assured #fail), I still feast my eyes on the delicious meals and get urges to cook them.
...which is why I made these ridiculously good brownies yesterday! photos to follow!

Sales @ the Merrimack Premium Outlets! #fallshopping
I got my brown/tan leather fix over at the outlets. Almost fled from the Coach store thinking it was a mistake at the cash it was so cheap. You know, like the woman in the Ikea commercial. 🚙💨

Are you in Manhattan? Do you like Peruvian food? Try Panca in the Village. Best Aji de Gallina and Ceviche…naturally, washed down with some Inca Kola. Yumming!!

First post: Some food! What I ate at Eventide Oyster Co. in Portland, ME. We got to go on a small family vacation on the East Coast and tried out this little gem. Service is quick and friendly, and the food is to DIE for. Literally, I almost died from my heart stopping (in a good way) after eating that AMAZING brown butter lobster roll. We also had the miso clam chowder, a variety of Maine oysters with horseradish toppings and mignonette; and finished up with a delish ice cream cookie. Yumming!

Hi there!
So…how does one start this blog thing?
See, I’m a new mommy and on certain hours of the day, I have some spare time. Now, I use most of that “free” time to shower, feed myself, get changed, do laundry, clean, etc (you get the drill), but I noticed that the rest of that time I was online…shopping, researching the latest trends or sales to inspire more shopping. I figured that instead of loading off my credit cards to the demise of my very tiny wealth, I’d start a blog. It’s 2015 and blogging seems like the cool thing to do, but it isn’t just that, it’s amazingly convenient and apologetic! I don’t have mad writing skills, so an easy going mode of communication seemed like the perfect fit! I presumably have a lot to say…it’s just that at 4 months, my baby doesn’t talk back at me. Within that loneliness one feels as a new mom going through maternity leave, writing about what I would normally talk to my colleagues seems like a good fit. We’ll see…and hopefully some of you might enjoy it :) I plan on sharing my finds, some recipes, tips, sale infos, movie reviews…basically, a bit of everything and anything!
With love, Duchess of Maize 🌽
