It's always on his right hand, and never changes - even in TGWDLM, it's on his right. However, you hold a gun with your dominant hand - which he does. You ALSO always shake hands with your dominant hand which he does when he appears in Black Friday during Monsters and Men. He ALSO throws Wiggly with his left hand and most left handed people throw with their left.

Most right handed people smoke with their left hand, and most left handed people smoke with their right hand (my source is my mother).

Thus my evidence concludes my John is ambidextrous theory/headcanon.
