What to Do When a Transponder Key Is Lost?
Over the years car keys have gotten more and more sophisticated. This was done as a way to make cars harder to steal and harder to break into. That’s why today a large majority of keys are transponder keys. They are keys that are so sophisticated that they actually communicate with your car. Perhaps that is why when people lose them they feel that these transponder keys cannot be duplicated. That simply is not the case. Most locksmiths have the equipment and know-how to reproduce any transponder key even if you no longer have an original key.
So don’t worry too much if you accidentally misplace or lose your transponder key. It happens to everyone from time to time. Despite rumors to the contrary, rest assured that all transponder keys and transponder devices definitely can be duplicated even though it’s not always a simple process.
Tumblr media
How Do You Recognize A Transponder Key?
You probably have a transponder key for your car if it’s been made in the last 15 or so years. They are pretty easy to identify. That’s because they are not like ordinary keys for your home, office or other locks. Most conventional keys are made entirely of lightweight metal. That is not the case for transponder keys.
Transponder keys have two components to them. They have the blade end that is cut to fit the locks in your car that looks like the blade end of any other type of key. Where they are different is at the top portion of the key. They usually have a rubber or hardened plastic shell with several buttons built into it. These buttons perform security functions. They actually transmit a signal to your vehicle that will do such things as turn your car alarm on/off, unlock your doors, and pop open your trunk.
Call a Locksmith to Make You a New Transponder Key
What’s the best course of action to take if you need a new transponder key made? It’s to call a local locksmith to help you out. When you call them, make sure you ask if they specialize in reproducing transponder keys. Locksmith service providers such as Duluth Locksmith out of Duluth, Georgia have the ability and equipment to easily make you a new transponder key.
What’s even better is that a large majority of locksmith services are mobile locksmith services. That means it takes very little effort on your part to get your new transponder key made. The locksmith will do it right at the location your car is at. Getting a new transponder key made could not be simpler in most cases.
Useful Information to Provide Your Locksmith With
The first thing your locksmith will need is some information about your car in order to make you a new transponder key. They will need your vehicle identification number (VIN) and if you have a transponder key identification number that will be useful. Both of these can usually be found in your vehicle owner’s manual. A vehicles VIN number can usually also be found stamped into a plate on your vehicles door frame and sometimes they can be found stamped into a plate on your dashboard too.
This information is used by the locksmith to help them identify the type of transponder key you need to be made and to inform them how to program your new transponder key so it works.
How Are Transponder Keys Made?
Your locksmith will first have to select a proper transponder key blank for your make and model vehicle. Since your transponder key has two different components to it, it only makes sense that a locksmith needs to do two different steps to get you a new working transponder key.
The first step is cutting the blade end of your new transponder key so it fits in your car door locks. The information you supplied to your locksmith above will help them know how to do this step. They will have special equipment on their service vehicle that will help them make precision cuts in the blade end.
The locksmith will also have to reprogram the electronic component of the transponder key. This is because they have to match the frequency signal in the transponder key to a compatible one in your automobile. Your locksmith will once again use the information you supplied to find a special programming code for your specific vehicle.
Your locksmith will then thoroughly test your new transponder key to make sure it functions the way it’s supposed to.
How much time does it take to make a new transponder key?
At this point, you may be wondering how long it will take your locksmith to make you a new transponder key. That is a hard question to answer. Different makes and models of vehicles require various degrees of difficulty in making new replacement transponder keys from them. Some car manufacturers also make it extremely difficult on locksmiths to make new transponder keys and devices. Experienced locksmith companies do know how to get around these things.
Advantages of Using a Locksmith Service to Duplicate a Transponder Key
Unless a dealer has your exact transponder key in stock they will have to order it. Transponder keys purchased from your car dealer also tend to be very expensive in most cases. Locksmiths, on the other hand, are great at making transponder keys that work from scratch and these keys are fairly priced in most cases.
Be Proactive With Your Transponder Keys
One thing that we highly suggest if you only have one working transponder key is that you get more made. It certainly is much better to be safe than sorry. By carrying an extra transponder key on you, it decreases the chances that you will get stranded somewhere. If you only have one key and you lose it, you will not only be stranded but you will have to pay a higher emergency locksmith service fee in order get a new transponder key made and get you back on your way.

Access Control for Your Business
Tumblr media
Businesses in Duluth, GA, are realizing with increasing frequency the advantages that access control can bring to their commercial property. While traditional locks and keys provide some protection, access control provides a superior level of commercial security. Access control in all its forms allows the business owner to control and track access to all areas of their commercial property. Whether you’ve been experiencing internal theft, had a break-in or robbery, or are just looking to maximize your business’s security safety net, an access control system can lay the foundation for strong security. By utilizing this cutting edge technology, you can give your business the advantage it needs to thrive in our modern world. These state-of-the-art systems can be installed on any commercial property, regardless of the industry you work in, by a qualified professional locksmith company. Read on to discover the benefits of access control systems.
Types of Access Control Systems
No longer limited to just key card readers, a variety of access control systems exist, each with their own benefits and drawbacks. A professional, licensed locksmith can help you choose the right access control system for your particular business’s needs. Available options include:
Key Card Readers
Tactile Keypads
Digital Keypads
Electronic Locks
Smart Locks
Fingerprint Locks
Retinal Scanners
Electronic access control is the most common form of access control you will find on commercial properties. Forms of electronic access control include digital keypads and smart locks. Biometric entry systems, such as fingerprint locks and retinal scanners, represent the latest innovations in access control technology. They use physical data matching as “keys” to give access to the door.
Many different companies exist that produce access control systems of various types, including trusted names like Kisi and Schlage. Some have features that others do not, including the ability to integrate with cameras and alarm systems or monitoring capabilities. You can discuss your company’s security goals with a professional locksmith who can help you navigate your options to find the right one. Features can and should be tailored to your business specifically, taking into account the flow of traffic of your company to provide ease of access while providing the right kind of protection for different areas of your commercial property.
If your company is still using traditional physical lock and key security, it is strongly recommended by locksmith professionals that you consider upgrading to an access control system. An access control system has many benefits, including but not limited to those listed here. While some business owners may be hesitant about investing the money in an access control system, it’s important to consider the risks to your assets without one. An access control system is one of the best investments you can make in your company’s future success.
Ability to Manage Who Has Access
With an access control system, unlike physical keys which can be copied or stolen, you can easily manage credentials for who is allowed to enter each particular door. This allows you to revoke access from terminated employees and other individuals who you no longer want to be able to enter. You can also easily put new employees into the system, eliminating the hassle of copying and distributing keys. Promoting an employee’s access credentials is also easily, allowing you a simple solution for programming higher-level access.
Protect Your Assets from Inside Interference
Internal theft makes up a significant portion of business loss in every industry, especially the customer service industry. While you may require background checks as part of your hiring process, not every would-be thief has a criminal record. With traditional lock hardware, the keys can fall into the wrong hands, especially if they’re within reach of your employees.
Track Entrances, Exits, and Attempts
A much sought after feature of many modern access control system is the ability to track every time the door is opened or attempted to be opened. These tracking systems allow you to see the times that the door was used to enter and exit and what credentials were used to do so. They also provide information about any unsuccessful attempts to open the door and why the person was turned away. Tracking features can be a significant asset to a business owner.
Evidence in Case of Incident
In case a theft or other incident occurs at your workplace, an access control system allows you useful data that may be used as supporting evidence. In case the source of the problem is not evident, an access control system provides data that can be used to track down the root cause.
Allow Third Party Access
In cases where you need to allow vendors and other third parties access to your building, you can provide that access easily for the amount of time you wish it to be given. Access control can be managed on sight or off sight, either by the company itself or by a third-party monitoring company.
Integration with Other Security Technology
When paired with a CCTV camera system, which can also be installed by a locksmith company such as Duluth Locksmith, a business can have a strong security net in place to catch any criminal activity that occurs on the property. Along with security camera technology, access control can also be integrated with alarm systems. This can be especially useful for fire and emergency exits, to prevent unauthorized access.
A commercial locksmith, such as Duluth Locksmith, can outfit your business with the latest in access control to replace your outdated and inferior locks. An access control system can be installed relatively quickly by the right locksmith with minimal disruption to the flow of traffic of your business. Installing an access control system involves planning, outfitting access points with readers, and configuring the system, all of which can be handled by a quality locksmith company with ease. Investing in the security of your business is one of the best choices you can make to ensure its longevity. Join the next generation of businesses by installing access control on your commercial property.

Duluth Locksmith – Importance of Having a Gun Safe
Do you own a gun and want to know how to store it safely? We know everything there is to know about gun safes. Our experts can install them, provide maintenance services for them, and even unlock them for you in case you experience a lockout. Of course, we are also more than happy to provide all the information you may need about this type of safe. We can help you pick the right gun safe for your needs in no time. Our company, or a lock and security provider in your location, is the best place to call if you have any questions about gun safes or you need to install one in your home.
Tumblr media
No matter what you use your gun for – protection or just for hunting or target practice – you need to make sure that the gun is properly stored. It is always a good idea to have a safe where to put the gun when it is not needed. Of course, the safe should be easy to unlock so that you can quickly use the gun if necessary.
If you are interested in purchasing a gun safe, read on. We will be providing details about why a gun safe is a good option and about how you should select the safe.
Significance of a Gun Safe
Guns are dangerous. Yes, they are very useful when it comes to defending yourself and your loved ones. However, guns can turn against you or other innocent people if you don’t store them properly. For example, an intruder may get a hold of your gun and threaten you with it. Or a burglar may steal some of your hunting rifles and use them to commit serious offenses. You are probably well aware that a gun in the wrong hands is a very serious issue. A gun safe protects you and other people from harm. An intruder will not be able to use your weapon or steal it.
There have been also cases where children managed to get a hold of their parents’ guns. They took the guns to school and got into a lot of trouble. Let’s not even talk about what can happen if your child accidentally discharges the weapon. The risks of storing guns in easy to reach places are very serious. By spending a few bucks, you can make sure that nobody can get access to your gun and that your loved ones are safe.
How a Gun Safe Helps Its Owner
So, you have one or more guns in your home and you store them all around the place – in shoeboxes, in various drawers and even on the cupboard. Any one of these weapons can be used by a burglar against you. Any one of these weapons can be used accidentally by a curious child with dramatic consequences. Here at Duluth Locksmith, we want to make sure that nobody gets hurt, even accidentally. A locksmith in your location should want this, too.
A gun safe helps you:
Store your weapon in a safe place. Nobody but you and/or your spouse will have access to the weapon. A safe is easy to open if you know the combination, so you can retrieve your weapon in the middle of the night in just a few seconds.
Always know where your guns are. Instead of trying to remember where you left your gun in the middle of the night when you hear some suspicious noises, all you have to do is open the gun safe. The weapon, along with its ammunition, will be there to be used right away.
Protect against your own weapon. An intruder will not be able to arm himself with your gun, as it will be safely locked inside the gun safe.
Lower your insurance rates. A gun safe is seen by insurance companies as a safety precaution. Not all companies offer discounts for a gun safe, but some do. Don’t forget to call your insurance company after you install the gun safe and ask them if they are willing to lower your insurance rate.
Avoid lawsuits. Say your gun is not stored safely and a robber steals it. The robber then goes on to commit murder during a robbery. The family of the victim will likely sue you for improperly storing firearms that led to the death of their loved one. And remember, there are firearms locking device laws that you may be involuntarily violating.
Does a Gun Safe Take a Lot of Space?
You may be concerned with the fact that a gun safe is too bulky to fit in your small apartment. Don’t worry about it; there are many models of safes on the market, many of which are designed to take up as little space as possible. Many of these gun safes can be installed in the wall or in the floor. Truth be told, such a safe would not take much space. You can hide it behind a painting if you install the safe in a wall, too.

We know how difficult it is to pick a gun safe. There are so many options available on the market today. This is why our technicians are ready to assist you if you’re in this location with any kind of information you need. Remember that specialists work with gun safes on almost a daily basis. 3 Back To School Home Security System Tips For Lowcountry Parents
Thanks to the solar eclipse darkening our skies over the Lowcountry on August 21st, 2017, area schools are opening earlier than usual this year so now is the best time to get your home’s security up to par for this year’s school year and hectic schedule.
 1. Notifications Are Your Friend
There’s never been a better time for installing and/or upgrading your home security system in your home, with all of the added features and technology advancements happening in the security industry. One feature though that consistently stands out as most useful for our customers — especially those with hectic school schedules — are the text, email and push notifications for alarm system events that occur at your home.
With our iShield Mobile app, powered by Alarm.com, you’ll be able to setup any number of system notifications to let you know nearly every action that takes place in your home. Get notifications for doors/windows opening, doors/windows left open, system arm/disarms, arming reminders and more. You can choose any frequency and notification type — whether you prefer text, email or push notifications you’ll always stay in the loop when your family members arrive home safely.
 2. Keyless Door Locks Eliminate House Key Conundrums
Ever lost your house keys or have a child or other family member lose them? This can be definitely frustrating, especially if you have to end up changing your locks. Worse yet, it can leave your loved one stranded outside until someone comes to let them in.
By having a keyless z-wave door lock installed on your front door, you’ll be able to connect it to your home’s security system, allowing you to control locking and unlocking all through the iShield Mobile app mentioned above. Keyless door locks also have a touchscreen keypad that enables you to set codes for different members of your household, which allows them to lock/unlock the door lock any time they need it.
Since your door lock integrates with your home security, you’ll also be able to get notifications on lock/unlock events, letting you know who’s home and who’s leaving the instant that event occurs.
 3. Home Security Cameras For Ultimate Peace of Mind
For many of our customers, the ultimate feeling of peace of mind comes when they get a text, email or push notification and are able to pull up a live view or receive a clip from their home’s security camera system and verify the event visually.
Security cameras also allow you to see if a child or other family member brings any unwanted or uninvited guests into your home which would otherwise go unnoticed.
The school year schedule can be stressful for Lowcountry families, but with your home security & automation system setup as mentioned above you can help reduce some of those everyday worries about everyone being safe & sound at home.

Types of locks that can be installed a garage door
There are several types of locks that can be placed on a garage door. Each lock has a slightly different purpose so you can select the lock that best suits your needs. What is important when you decide on the lock of your choice is to ensure that it will provide the protection that you need. Lock needs can vary based on what you have stored in your garage and the area that you live in. The lock that you need to give you adequate protection may be completely different from another person who lives in a different area and has different types of items in their garage. Ensure that you do not simply choose a lock because someone else has it.
Get professional help to determine what will work best for your individual situation. Our experienced locksmiths can provide you with all the help that you need. Give us a call and let us discuss your options.
Here are some of the types of locks that we may recommend for you.
T-handle Keyed lock
This type of lock is quite commonly used by garage door owners. As the name suggests, the lock has a ‘T’ shape. It is generally placed on the outer side of the garage door and it is attached to a system that is placed on the inside of the garage door. In order to open this type of lock, you have to use the key that is designated for it. It is a very effective lock and it significantly increases the security that your garage door provides. If you want to add this lock to you garage door, ensure that you hire a professional to install it. Let one of our locksmiths handle it for you.
Slide lock
A slide lock is one of the most commonly used locks that are placed on a garage door. Once the lock is latched, you will not be able to open the garage door. It has to be disengaged in order to be opened. This enhances the safety of the garage door. Caution should be exercised though because you can ruin your automatic opener if you try to open the garage door while the latch is fastened. If you get this type of lock installed, always ensure that you check it before using your automatic opener.
Electronic lock
As the name suggests, this lock is operated electronically. It is usually locked and unlocked automatically. It enhances the protection of a garage door and it does not pose the risk of damaging the garage door if it is engaged when you use the automatic opener. Why? Because it will disengage once the opener is used. This is definitely an advantage over the slide lock and the T handle Keyed lock. On the contrary, this lock does not seem to offer as much protection as the locks that were previously mentioned.
J Arm lock
There is a standard lock that comes with a garage door. Once you purchase your garage door and have it installed, you should have a lock that prevents the door from being opened once it is closed. Although this lock is quite effective it is not the most effective lock that you can use on the garage door. If you do not require a great deal of security at your home, you may not need more than this. If your home is more prone to security threats, it may be much wiser to get a lock that can provide more security.
How to install your garage door lock
Do not attempt to install any garage door lock! Leave it to the professionals. We are sure that you do not want to have a lock that is not functioning properly because it was incorrectly installed. 5 Key Benefits of High Security Door Lock Systems
Tumblr media
If you are concerned about security in your organization, but also want to keep costs under control, a high security door lock system could be the right choice for your business. This kind of electronic system has many advantages over other types of door locks. Let’s take a look at five benefits that the most secure door locks can bring to your business.
1. High Security Door Lock System Benefits Reduce Costs in the Long Run
The major benefit of high security locks (also known as HSEC) is that they are nearly impossible to pick. That’s because they utilize two levels of biaxial key cutting, which produce angled cuts inside the lock that are very difficult to force open by picking the lock. As a result, your business can avoid costs associated with theft, which can be financially crippling.
Of course, a pick-resistant lock is no use if a determined intruder can simply drill the lock out of its housing. That’s why all the most secure door locks come with drill resistant housings, which prevent the locks from being removed from the doors. Not only does this feature reduce theft, but it also means you won’t face the expense of replacing damaged locks with new ones to re-secure the property after an attempted break-in.
For many businesses, most of the costs associated with door locks arise from the need to replace locks when keys go missing or are copied without authorization. However, Instakey’s key blanks are not available on the open market and therefore cannot be duplicated without authorization. As a result, you may find that your organization’s need to replace locks to ensure security decreases.
2. High Security Door Lock Systems Can Be Customized to Meet Your Needs
If you have particular requirements for your door lock system, that doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of the most secure door locks on the market. Instakey provides a highly customizable HSEC system that can be tailored to meet your business’ needs. If you need to secure multiple locations, you can even customize each system to meet the particular demands of the individual working environment.
3. Rekeyable Locks Allow You To Immediately Reset Locks
How many times have you had to replace a lock because an employee has lost a key, or because a key has been stolen? With a high security door lock system, replacing locks can be a thing of the past. Rekeyable locks can be securely reset when a key is lost or stolen, which means that anyone who tries to use the lost or stolen key will be denied access. Meanwhile, the other keys can be updated so your employees continue to enjoy uninterrupted access to the facility.
All types of keys in a HESC system can be reset, including master keys, grand master keys, and even great grand master key systems. This ensures that security is guaranteed on every level of your organization.
Instakey HESC systems use high security cylinders to ensure the security of your rekeyable system. These cylinders can be retrofit into a range of housings from most major door lock manufacturers. They offer the ability to reset locks without compromising the security of the overall system.
4. Track Serialized Keys With Cloud-based Key Tracking Software
One of the most useful features of electronic door lock systems is the ability to track serialized keys. Instakey provides a cloud-based key control software solution that allows administrators to keep track of all keys that have been issued. Using this software, admins can identify the key holder, track the location of the key, and quickly check which doors each key provides access to. Serialized keys also eliminate key duplication, which can be a major security risk in some organizations.
5. High Security Door Lock Systems Ensure Security
All the features of high security door lock systems work together to ensure the security of your business’s physical premises. In addition to the physical features offered by the locks, Instakey also offers dedicated programs that can help every member of the organization act in a way that promotes security. These programs include ongoing education, training, and support to help administrators establish organization-wide policies that ensure the security and effectiveness of your system. When every member of every team in your organization works together to ensure security, you can rest assured that the risk of a security breach is being kept as low as possible.
If you need to balance the need for better security in your organization with the desire to keep costs low, a high security door lock system could be the best choice. As you have seen, there are many benefits to installing this kind of system in your organization, including low maintenance costs, greater convenience, and enhanced security. For more information about the benefits that high security door lock systems can bring to your business, get in touch with Instakey today. We can answer any questions you have about HESC and other types of electronic door lock systems, which could help you find the system that is right for your needs.

HOME SECURITY: 5 SIMPLE TIPS TO KEEP YOUR HOME SAFE AND SECURE
When most people hear the term “burglary,” they instantly picture someone wearing a mask and sneaking around their home during the twilight hours. However, as it turns out, nothing could be further from the truth. In actuality, over four times as many burglaries occur during the daylight hours than they do at night, but why is this the case?
The truth of the matter is most burglars don’t want to be seen or make contact with occupants of the homes they’re trying to rob. In fact, most burglars are nothing more than small time criminals in search of jewelry and other small items to pawn for cash.
More often than not, burglars are just as afraid of getting caught by you as you are of them. Since more people are at home during the night than they are during the day, including neighbours, it makes more sense for burglars to snoop around when the sun is high in the sky and no one is home.
If you’re like most households, you’re usually at work and your kids are at school Monday-Friday week in and week out. A burglar who breaks into your home during this time has likely been scoping your house out to learn your schedules and make sure no one will be home.
They can also check out your home’s security system, or lack there of, during the day. In a neighbourhood with lax security, a serial burglar can walk right into a home with little difficulty and look just like they’re returning home.
Of course, nighttime burglaries do still occur and should be a concern. A burglar without the wherewithal to realize the advantages the daylight hours provide, or one who preys on vacationing homeowners during the holidays or summer months, may try to break in at night.
The key is to ensure your home stays protected just as well during the day when you’re away as it is at night when you’re home with the family and snoozing away. Keep reading to find out how.
5 SMART BURGLARY PREVENTION TIPS
1.      INVEST IN A HOME SECURITY SYSTEM
A home security system is the absolute best way to deter burglars from snooping around your property. Today, there are a myriad of home security options available. From exterior cameras and light timers to motion-activated sensors that can automatically alert you via an app on your phone, there’s never been a worse time to be a burglar than right now.
Not only is home security technology better than ever before, but the prices are lower than they’ve ever been. Knowing this, there’s no reason to leave the lights on during the day when a simple press of a button can switch them to a periodic timer to make it look like you’re home. Take advantage of today’s technology and get some helpful gadgets. Depending on your insurer, a home security system may lower your home insurance premiums as well.
2.      INSTALL QUALITY DOOR LOCKS
Simple pushbutton locks found on doorknobs are easy pickings for burglars. Strong deadbolt locks, on the other hand, can discourage potential burglars and minimize break ins by making their job a little bit more difficult.
That being said, high-quality locks are only good if you use them, so make sure all of your home’s exterior doors are locked from the inside and dead bolted whenever you’re home or away. Keyless door locks, or smart locks, make this incredibly easy. Thanks to smart technology, you can lock and unlock your home’s doors with a simple press of a button on your phone or tablet. It doesn’t get much easier than that.
You should also have the locks changed immediately whenever you lose your keys or move into a new home. If you’re moving into a new home, who knows how many keys to the property are floating around out there. Not changing the locks is only asking for trouble.
3.      BE A GOOD NEIGHBOUR
Friendly neighbours often look out for one another, and while sometimes a little nosiness can be annoying, it can also pay off dividends when it comes to protecting your home. Who knows? By getting to know the people in your neighbourhood, the lady down the street with the two Chihuahuas may alert you if she spots a van casing your home while you’re at work.
You can even take things a step further and form a neighbourhood watch group. By working together with your neighbours, you can create a safe and burglar-free neighbourhood.
4.      CLOSE THE BLINDS
Open blinds, even during the day, can tempt would-be burglars into checking out the goods inside your home. From the 72-inch Samsung TV hanging on the wall in your living room to your nice leather furniture and fancy light fixtures, anything in your home can catch a burglar’s eye as they’re walking or driving by.
The solution to this is a simple one: close the blinds! While you don’t have to live in a dark dungeon, you should close your blinds at night and while you’re away during the day to keep burglars driving by your home and onto the next.
5.      STORE VALUABLES IN A SAFE
Most burglars head straight to the bedroom after breaking into a home in search of jewelry, watches, cash, and any other small valuables. Unfortunately, the majority of people, especially trusting Canadians, keep all of their valuables in that very spot. Worse yet, very few store them in a personal safe.
No burglar wants to draw attention to themselves by dragging a big heavy safe out the front door for everyone to see. Even fewer want to take the time to cut through bolts, break codes, and learn the ins and outs of safe cracking. Therefore, it makes perfect sense to protect your valuables by putting them in a safe rather than out in the open.
Bottom Line
Whether you’re out of the house for a day or a month, following these tips will help make it an undesirable target and keep it secure. Although there are several measures you can take to prevent a burglary, a home security system is by far one of the most effective. It’s the extra layer of protection your home needs to remain guarded when you’re away!

Steps to take to prevent burglary at your home
All of us are always trying to make our homes and offices secure so that no one is able to trespass the property without our knowledge or permission. But even then burglaries do happen and happen in good neighbourhoods as well. But there are some full proof methods which can help us prevent burglaries at home so that our families and our valuable items remain secure and out of reach of thieves or burglars. The following are some of the most useful and effective steps you can take to prevent theft or burglary at your home:
1.      Keep all doors, windows, sheds etc locked at all times
It is true that we lock our doors and windows etc when we are not at home and this helps to secure the house to a large extent but this is also important while we are still indoors. Check the locks on a regular basis to ensure their proper functioning and durability.  The locks should be strong, sturdy and latest in their functioning.
2.      Secure your house using burglar alarms and smart security technology
Technology is improving with each passing day and thus it is best to make use of it to secure your house. Make use of burglar alarms, smart CCTV cameras, remote controlled doors etc to protect your belongings and family from any kind of unauthorised access. These devices alarm you in case of trespassing so that quick action can be taken and are a must these days!
3.      Install enough lighting around your house
It is important that the areas just outside your house are well lit. Thus if you see that there isn’t much lighting, try to install it on your own. What this does is that it scares burglars away and keeps your neighbours informed about the activity around the house. Most thefts take place in poorly lit residential areas.
4.      Always leave a few lights on when you are not at home
Remember to keep a few lights in and outside the house on so that no one is able to guess that you are not at home. Thieves generally target those houses where lights are off since they try to steal when no one is at home.
5.      Connect your home security with your phone through app
One of the greatest advantages of smart security technology is that now you can control the security of your house through your phone, no matter where you are. This means that you can watch live CCTV footage on your phone and also get notification if someone is trying to break in so that you can make the alarm go off.

Why Invest in a Home Safe & Security System
If you are concerned with your most prized possessions, it is a good idea to have a home safe installed. You might already have a safe deposit box but you might find it necessary to keep some of your most precious possessions close to you. Besides, some people would rather do away with the extra expense of owning a safety deposit box and invest in home safes instead. There are all sorts of safes for the home. Some safes protect your valuables from fire, foods and, of course, theft. There are plenty of options for you to choose from. You can have a floor safe installed, wall, gun, digital or a fire safe. All of them offer you some sort of security. If you’re in the market for a new safe and are not sure which type to buy, our knowledgeable associates at Duluth Locksmith are able to help you in this regard. If you’re still not convinced that a home safe is what you need, perhaps some of the reasons presented below will convince you otherwise.
Added Security
A safe prevents loss of your valuables. You can prevent your valuables from being stolen or ruined due to natural disasters when you place your items in a safe. If you should come home to a fire in your home, you don’t have to worry about your most valued items from being destroyed. They will still be safe and sound inside your home safe.
Convenience
Instead of running back and forth to your safe deposit box, you have the convenience of accessing whatever it is that you need right from your home. You may need important paperwork but don’t want the bother of going anywhere to get it. Having them safely stored in a safe will save you time. You don’t have to worry about spending time running back and forth to get what you need because you’ll have immediate access to it in your home.
Minimize the Chance of Things Being Stolen
If you place your valuables in a safe, you don’t have to worry about a burglar getting them. They want to be able to get in and out of your home as fast as they can. If they notice a safe, it is unlikely that they will stick around trying to figure out how to get inside.
Durability
The durability of a safe means it isn’t easy to open. Again, a thief isn’t going to take the time needed to break into a safe; they don’t have the time. If decide to store your gun, cash, bonds or other important paperwork inside your safe, you can be sure that it will withstand the pressure of someone attempting to break into it.
Personalized for Your Needs
It is true that there are standard safes; however, you can have a safe designed to fit your specific needs. Perhaps the safes that are on the market do not offer you exactly what you want and need. You’ll have to determine exactly what you need and what you want to protect before you set out to buy a safe.
Home Security Systems
If you do not already have a security system, what are you waiting for? You can have a system installed in a few hours. If you’re not sure this is what you really want or need, consider the following:
Avoid a Break-in
With a security system, you might be able to ward off an intruder before they are successful at getting inside your home. Some homeowners have even reported seeing suspicious people around their homes and they have notice that the presence of the security company signage scared them off.
Peace-of-Mind
Knowing that there is a security system installed at your home means you don’t have to be overly concerned with someone breaking in. You have the reassurance of knowing that even if someone attempts to break-in; their efforts will be thwarted.
Decreases in Crime
Reports indicate the more people with security systems, the fewer amounts of break-ins. Now this could be due to a number of reasons. Our best guess is that they simply do not wish to be caught. When they recognize that you have a security system, they might decide to go elsewhere for what they want.
Protection
If you have a security system, it could scare of an intruder who might be willing to harm anyone who gets in their way. A security system with an alarm can alert the right authorities thus keeping you and your family out of harms way.
Remote Monitoring of your Home
Since almost everyone has a cell phone, manufacturers have decided it is a good idea to integrate the home security system with cell phones. You can monitor what you see inside your home, when you are not there via your phone. If you have cameras installed, you can still see what you need to see through your cell phone as long as the camera is programmed to your cell phone. Remote access gives you the convenience of seeing what is happening in and around your home without actually being there.
Alerts You of Fire or Gas
There are security systems with features that can actually alert you to fire or gas detected inside your home. This is especially useful because it allows you to do something about it. They have been very helpful in helping families detect carbon monoxide and escape unharmed.
With so many impressive reasons for investing in a safe and a security system, we can’t understand why anyone wouldn’t look into having them. If cost is what keeps you from making the purchase, we are here to let you know that you can find both at prices you can afford. Many are offered in various price ranges so that you are capable of finding one that will fit your budget. Don’t be afraid to ask questions so that you can find out what will be best for your particular situation.

Car Locking Systems and How to Choose a Locksmith
Car problems related to locking yourself out of the vehicle are so common that most car owners might have gone through it personally. Although it seems like a simple thing, this can cause you a quite a bit of grief. Locking yourself out of your car might make you late for an important appointment; cause you to miss your train or flight, and several similar problems. Additionally, you might have important documents, your house keys, or your phone inside the car. During times like this, a locksmith will be nothing short of a godsend.
An auto locksmith is an experienced and skilled professional who works with vehicle locks. More often than not, they are trained in the art of installing locks for the safety of vehicles. Moreover, they are trained to open locked doors without damaging the vehicle in any way. Given below is an informative discussion on vehicle locks and how to pick the right locksmith to work on your car.
Types of Car Lock Systems
Usually, there are three main types of car lock systems namely the power lock doors, keyless systems, and central locking. In the power lock door system, the driver pulls a lever when required and all the doors get locked without having to do it manually. Secondly, the key-less locking systems do not require you to turn the key to lock. All you have to do is press a button which you can also carry out of the car. In the central locking system, when the driver side door is locked or unlocked, all the four doors get locked or unlocked simultaneously.
Tips to Choose the Best Auto Locksmith
One of the most important things that you must consider when choosing an auto locksmith service is whether they have the required license and certification. These documents are important indications of their experience and professionalism. However, a certificate or license is not enough to trust a locksmith blindly. In fact, in some countries, a car locksmith doesn’t even require a permit to operate. Therefore, given below are some tips that might help you make the right choice:
It might be tempting to call up the first locksmith contact that you come across of internet directories or the Yellow Pages. However, this is not a recommended step. Taking a few minutes to do some research will make sure that you pick the right professional for the job. Check out their online site and read about what past customers have to say about their service.
Recommendations from friends and family members are a good starting point as you will get the best advice from them. Plus, it is always a good idea to work with a professional whose skills can be backed by someone close to you. If they have had a positive experience with the auto locksmith in question it is a sign to go ahead and call them in.
Most of the problems related to car locks occur when you are least expecting them. You might be on your way to something important when you face problems with the lock or get locked out. In this situation, your requirement will be to get help fast. To ensure this, try and choose a locksmith near your place of residence or work, preferably on the routes you take most often.
Lastly, find a locksmith who would be ready to help in emergency situations. If you keep these tips in mind, you will find that choosing the right locksmith is not that tough a task as it may have seemed initially. Once you have made your choice, always keep the emergency contact of the auto locksmith in your wallet as well as in your car.
