Instead of getting old and dying in pain and fear and shame, we give our life – as a gesture. Before it can spoil. It does no good dying, lashing back at the inevitable. It corrupts the spirit.
MIDSOMMAR (2019) dir. Ari Aster

Bucky's arm headcanon
Bucky has full conscious control of his bionic arm. He can change the plate configuration at will, pull the segments in tight when he needs greater strength and stability or loosen them for increased speed and flexibility.
If it’s raining or snowing, or if he needs to go into the water, he can lock them down to make his arm waterproof (though this reduces the arm’s range of motion; he’s not a very efficient swimmer).
However, his arm also responds to unconscious emotional commands. When he’s nervous or impatient the segments click together like fingers tapping on a table. When he’s scared or taken by surprise, his arm locks at a 90 degree angle for maximum structural support (designed to protect him in case someone rams him with a car or drops a building on him–it’s also good for stopping shields).
And if someone pisses him off, the segments grind against each other with a rasping metallic growl. It’s a sound that triggers the most primitive part of the human brain’s limbic system for the maximum pants-pissing oh shit effect, a sound that very clearly says fuck off or you’re dead.
Both his HYDRA handlers and the Avengers have learned to respect that sound…
