WRITEBLR INTRO
ABOUT ME: My name is Cassander. I am a twenty-two year old from France with a morbid fascination for all things austere, provocative, dark, old and ugly.
I am a very private person by nature, meaning I don't like to talk too much about myself. But as 2024 unfolds, I made the promise to put myself out there a little more this year. While my main blogs (@daweyt | @lamaenad) serve as a place for inspiration where I put all the excerpts I saved from my readings that inspired me, as well as pictures and art — I want to use this secondary tumblr account to document the experience of creation, and hopefully connect with other creatives as well.
ABOUT MY WRITING: I only write original fictions — the genre varies but I often come back to thrillers, psychological fictions, literary fictions. My work is usually very atmospheric and philosophical; full of symbolism; with vile, despicable and sometimes down-right immoral characters; and heavy themes. I do not write graphic sex scenes nor do I write romance as I have no interest in writing those.
I am currently working on my first serious novel or shall I say, the first I actually seriously intent to write from start to finish. It is titled "Thus Saith The Lord" and has themes of morality, philosophy, religion, obsession and identity.
Tumblr media
On the side, I am also developing ideas and writing scenes here and there for another novel, which is unfortunately still, to this day, untitled. While my main novel Thus Saith The Lord contains heavy themes and a bleak atmosphere, this second work of mine is much more twisted and dare I say... immoral. Think of it as The Dreamers meets Lolita — a juxtaposition of beauty and deviance.
Tumblr media
I must, by the way, precise that I like to take my time to write as it lets me refine my work, and I will not hesitate to take up to a decade if needed.
WHERE TO FIND MY WORK: I haven't published anything yet, but once I'll be ready, you'll be able to find my writing — both in French and in English — on any of these platforms.

Write the story you want to write
It's ok if your story is predictable. Not every work of fiction needs to reinvent the wheel.
There's a reason that tropes exist, and it's because readers enjoy them and they make compelling stories. As long as the journey is fun, readers will come along for the ride.

pink fog
some buckaroos have asked in comments so i will answer here: yes i wear pink bag at all meetings with my publisher or in lawyers office or out for official business, things like that. nobody from @torbooks or @macmillanusa or my agents or legal have ever seen my face
when i sign contracts and deal with bank accounts i use a legal corporation entity that was set up by sam rand so even if you tracked THAT down you would only uncover who sam rand is, not chuck

Are you looking for an alpha/beta reader?
I am putting a tentative feeler out into the world to see whether this would be helpful to anyone.
I have been interested in getting into alpha reading / developmental editing for a while, but I want to get some practice in so that I can build a solid offering. It would be aimed at people who have a rough manuscript draft, but for some reason they are finding things just aren't working with the story and would like an outside view.
I have done this kind of thing twice in the past. I write up a c15 page report looking at plot structure, pacing, character arcs, themes, and giving my suggestions. It would not be a line edit, so I wouldn't be looking at spelling, grammar etc. Obviously this would be for free, as it is practice for me too!
Here is an example of what I did for a friend (this was a bit more casual than what I would do for someone else, but it gives an idea of the report structure):
Tumblr media
I'm mostly familiar with fantasy stories, though the above was a sci-fi, so I am comfortable looking at those as well. I don't think I could give very good advice for surrealism or literary fiction, as I am not familiar with those genre beats. At the moment I'm looking for drafts with a word count under 100k as well, due to the time taken to read them.
Full transparency: I have no qualifications in writing, but I have self-published one book and hope to self-publish my second in the next few months.
Some nice things people have said about my work are below.
Praise for The Mechanics of Magic:
We are proud to announce that MECHANICS OF MAGIC by W.B.J. Martin has been honored with the B.R.A.G. Medallion (Book Readers Appreciation Group). It now joins the very select award-winning, reader-recommended books at indieBRAG.
Best fantasy novel I have read for years. Having read fantasy on and off for more years than I care to remember I thought the genre was dead, this book gives me hope that there are still writers out there who have a good imagination with decent writing skills.
Brilliant read, loved every moment of it. Well written suspenseful storyline with intriguing characters and visually descriptive settings making you feel like you're there.
Beautifully written with a gripping storyline
I couldn't put it down! Great book!
Praise for Burning the Darkness (not yet published, but a version is available on AO3) I am doing my best to keep comments anonymous here, but I wanted to share some of the lovely things people have said :):
[...]one of the best works for vampire lore I have ever read here and I can't get over it.
[...]this is such an interesting characterization/character arc[...]I almost want to share this with one of my old English teachers or write a formal essay about it
[...]beautifully paced and your world building has been extremely interesting.
If you're interested, please do drop me a message! Again, this will all be free, as I'm using it to test whether I can build some kind of report standard and to feel out a rough turnaround time. If you do find I am helpful at all, I might ask for a review at some point in the future if I decide to do this more 'professionally'.

Make me write tag
@eccaiia tagged me!
Tagging @the-down-upside-finch, @jezifster, @heartofnovel, and open tag because I really want to bring this back!
Rules: Make a 24hr poll listing the titles of every WIP you want to work on. (It’s fine if you only have one, still make a poll for the vote count). Whichever WIP title gets the most votes, write 1 sentence for every vote received.
Because I had so much fun honoring every vote last time, I'll do that again. Feel free to reblog this to make me productive! Also I'm going to make this a week long poll because I'll have more time in my study schedule next week to start working on results.
Currently trying to expand from 444 words per day to 600 words per day so get all your friends to vote!
