where. the coolsville community center who. dusk morgan & nate blackwood @blackwood-nate
dusk had been sat in those uncomfortable chairs for at least twenty minutes now, and the whole gang had yet to arrive. when had people stopped showing up on time? like fuck, she was a few minutes later, but almost a half hour was deliberate.
deciding to stretch her legs and give her ass a break, the blonde got up and told the room that she'd be back in five. walking to the entrance of the community center, dusk found a slightly shady spot near the entrance and lit up a cigarette. maybe too early in the morning for it, but who cares. they were here to investigate a potential dead girl, she'd get all the nicotine she could find.
spotting a familiar car in the parking lot, she brought a hand up to shield her eyes from any extra sun as she confirmed the person getting out of it. it was the guy from the bar, what the hell was he doing here?
"what the hell are you doing here?" she asked once he was close enough to hear her. he couldn't be part of the group investigating charlotte, could he? from the numerous interactions she had with him, she'd be shocked to find out he was an armchair detective.

his mention of a potential ransom note from a kidnapper, made it clear that he didn't think about the same things dusk and her fellow women had to consider daily. because while the idea of a ransom note held weight, that wasn't the type of kidnapping she was talking about. "there might be, if the kidnapper intended to get something out of it, and maybe give her back. but i'm talking about the other kind. ya know, the ones who pluck women out of obscurity and ship them off to some country half way around the world and-" she cut herself off before she started spiraling. hopefully he got the picture.
narrowing her eyes at his response, dusk realized this man probably never had a hard day in his life. "or she ran away and told no one, because that's the point. to make sure no one could track you down. but... yeah i guess, maybe she told a friend." she should ask her sister abby when she got home, see if charlotte ever mentioned running away. "maybe we see if her friends know anything?"
wondering what exactly had brought scott to the group meeting, aside from being boy wonder, caused dusk leaned in and ask, "how do you know charlotte? i mean, why do you care if she went missing?"
Tumblr media
As she turned the question back on him, Scott had to think. Furrowing his brow, he realised that he didn't really have any theories. Not just yet. He wanted to find Charlotte, thinking of the goal, thinking of the save. He hadn't yet really thought about what had really happened to her. He immediately felt a bit foolish, all the people around him were gathered for the same reason and already had theories brewing. He was falling behind and he didn't like that. So as she was talking, Scott sat forward, his elbows resting on his knees as he listened intently.
"Kidnapped..." he echoed, building off her thought. He might not have any original ones but Scott was a builder and he could build on her thought. "If she was kidnapped, surely there would be a ransom note right? That's what happens, isn't it?" he asked rhetorically. He was drawing on his deep knowledge of action movies, and maybe that was silly but it's not like young girls went missing in Coolsville all the time. Well, they didn't used to. "The kidnappers send the family a photo or a video with her holding a newspaper asking for millions to be dropped off in a suitcase somewhere sketchy."
Scott considered her point at Charlotte running away, mulling it over, the thought rolling around like a sour lolly in his mouth. She could've run away, but the question followed: what did she have to run away from? He wouldn't ask that. He knew better than anyone that people in this town thought a promising young person, the star of the school, would have nothing negative going on and he knew better than anyone that that wasn't the case. "If she ran away, surely she would tell a friend? Y'know, to avoid all this worrying?"

sitting along in the room with only one other person brought on a sense of quiet that dusk didn't enjoy. when it was too quiet was when she was alone with her thoughts, and that was not a place to be. it's why she often had headphones on, listening to loud music to just drown out the thoughts in her head.
considering the reason she had come today, she had decided to leave the headphones at home.
picking the polish on her thumb nail that had started to wear away, dusk was surprised to be approached and greeted by the other girl. giving her a good look, dusk couldn't place her face. but when she gave her name, it clicked.
darcy warren, rosie's quiet and introverted roommate. in the dozen or so times that dusk had gone to rosie's apartment, she had never once seen her roommate. either the girl was out or holed up in her room. she only left for food or the bathroom, but even then it was so quick dusk only ever saw the flash of red hair.
"hey," the blonde greeted, shaking darcy's hand before going back to her mindless task of picking at her nail polish. only this time her attention was on the girl in front of her. "dusk morgan. and yeah, moved here a little under a year ago." with that being the first question darcy threw her way, dusk could assume she had lived here her whole life.
Tumblr media
"you're rosie's roommate, right? i'm apart of her band." noting that darcy was still standing in front of her, dusk motioned to the open and available seats nearby. "kinda fucked that i've been in your house but we've never met, huh? i didn't think you ever left that room." was that a shitty thing to say? if it came off that way she didn't intend it to. it was more just an observation.
Tumblr media
a closed starter for @dusktildcwn
darcy was keeping to herself, having already said the wrong thing multiple times that morning.
in times of crisis, she always reverted to the facts. and the facts were that the chance of finding a missing girl two weeks later were minimal. the first 72 hours were crucial. less than 2% of missing children were found after a week.
the person she'd shared such statistics with had not been appreciative of her reality check, having wandered away from her long ago. and she'd been on her own since, left to regret her actions for over ten minutes as she sipped her now lukewarm cup of coffee.
luckily, it wasn't long before someone else moved to the sidelines.
given the choice between keeping quiet while continuing to ruminate and socializing, nine times out of ten, darcy would pick the former. however, there was a task to be accomplished. a missing girl to help (however unrealistic that may or may not be). it didn't come without a moment of deliberation, but approximately one minute and twenty-seven seconds after the blonde appeared nearby, darcy made her way over.
"hi," she half-waved as she paused in front of the girl. the only stranger in the room. at the very least, darcy knew how to begin the conversation.
Tumblr media
"i don't believe we've met. i'm darcy warren." she made sure to purposely drop the doctor before her name, the prefix unnecessary in non-scholarly rooms. she still extended her hand for a shake, though. "are you new to town?"

"because they didn't become a cop to do their job, we all know it's a power grab." dusk said with a huff, crossing her arms over her chest and giving an eye roll just to further make her point. everyone knew how corrupt the cops could be. it was a tale as old as time. and in a town as small as coolsville, she would be shocked if half that staff wasn't full of men who only felt big and powerful by throwing their badge and gun around.
as rosie explained why she was here, dusk didn't feel the need to pry further. if she had learned one thing since moving to coolsville, it was that her friend had a big ass heart. even if some people would assume otherwise.
"yeah... i get what you mean." even if dusk didn't have the connection to charlotte that she did, a part of her knew she would still be here. because if it was her sister that had gone missing, she'd want someone to look for her. "she's friends with abby." dusk explained, knowing she pretty much said enough. how would it look if she didn't help look for her sister's friend? "she's been to our place enough, in my car at least five times... i have to help. it's why i'm hoping-" she couldn't really say it. because even saying out loud that she hoped charlotte was alive, was saying there was a chance she wasn't. shaking her head, she tried to change the subject. "i wonder who else is gonna show. aside from boy wonder over there," she murmured, motioning towards scott.
Tumblr media
Rosie's teeth grazed the fleshy part of her inner cheek, "Why do their job when they can tie it all up all nice and pretty-" Rosie sing sang, sliding into the chair miming tying up a bow. Dark eyes grazed across Dusk's face a silent question of how had she wound up here? "Maybe they won't-" Rosie twisted her cup between her palms, holding it to have something to focus on rather than drink. She didn't want to suggest the obvious. They were all mostly intelligent people. They knew the stats on something like this.
Leaning back in her chair, Rosie maintained an aloof expression, blowing out a sigh as she seemed to be searching for the right words. "Seemed the thing to do," she answered smoothly. It wasn't exactly a lie nor did it give away anything real. There were too many others potentially around. Rosie shrugged as if punctuating her thoughts. "I mean I know who she i-wa-is..." Her brows furrowed the unpleasantness weighing her down. "I'd want someone to look for me if I was missing so I figured may as well show up and see what there is to be done-" Speaking while picking lipstick stained skin from her lips, a nervous tick she'd realized when her fingers were already smudged with Cerise Désir, petal red. "Why are you here?"

did she actually have theories as to what had happened to charlotte blackwood? no, not really. thinking it over, maybe her suggestion was more in line with talking through the fact that she was missing. see what everyone knew, and maybe they could come up with some theories together.
but she didn't want to seem like she came to this meeting unprepared, so in a split second decision, dusk decided she was going to act as if she had plenty of theories.
"you don't?" she immediately asked. "i mean, i think the obvious theory is that she was kidnapped." she didn't dare speak the second theory, that charlotte had been murdered. while part of dusk was certain that was actually what happened to the cheerleader, she couldn't get herself to say it out loud.
"or, i don't know... has anyone considered maybe she ran away?"
Tumblr media
Having gotten to the community centre early, it gave Scott the opportunity to sus out who was actually included in this little group that they were creating. He recognised faces, even some names, but when the blonde girl slipped through the doors and sat a couple of seats down from him, he drew a blank. Had he met her before? Surely not. Maybe? He really didn't know. She looked familiar but in a passing way.
At her question, he shrugged. How exactly did a vigilante ragtag mystery solving gang work? Surely, like any other team. And every team member needed to find common ground with their teammates. "You've got theories already?" he asked, feeling a bit underprepared. He hadn't though of theories. If Scott was being honest, he still couldn't believe something like this could happen in little old Coolsville. All he'd brought to the meeting were some snacks, like the box of donuts he had already picked over. "Whatcha got?"

it was a weird mixture of relief and confusion that ran through dusk when she saw her friend and bandmate enter the room. when dusk had been invited to join this group - or forced her way into this group - she hadn't asked a lot of questions. so this first meeting would not only shed information anyone may have on charlottes whereabouts, but also clue her into who else was actually helping investigate the case.
and now her question was, why was rosie helping out with this mystery?
wordlessly grabbing the coffee from rosie, she took a long sip and made sure her face didn't contort as the drink hit her lips. she actually hated coffee, really couldn't stand the taste, but with how little sleep she was getting lately, she'd welcome the energy boost.
"i think we all know cops are useless. they spend more time accusing innocent bystanders then actually looking into the evidence they do have." dusk didn't have as many negative interactions with the cops that rosie seemed to have, but she'd seen enough shit happen to people she cared about over the years to know they seemed to do more harm then good.
"i mean, it's been two weeks and i feel like they haven't given a single update." sighing, dusk leaned back in her chair and ran her hands through her hair. noting that they were still waiting on a few stragglers, dusk turned to rosie and asked the question that started brewing the second her friend entered the room, "what the fuck are you doing here, by the way? did you know charlotte?"
Tumblr media
Rosie dragged each step of her routine, if you can call smoking outside her bedroom window while lazily gulping luke warm coffee with not enough sugar a routine at all. She washed the bleary sleepless exhaustion from her eyes and while her toothbrush hung from her lips added concealer until she appeared still tired but at least made up. "fuck it," she exhaled grabbing her things from the counter on her way out the door. She'd not expected Darcy to still be home, and if she was Rosie wouldn't bother her behind closed doors, "See ya there-" she called and went on her way. She took the scenic routes, driving slowly by her fathers house, just to see. Turning into the cafe so at least she wouldn't arrive empty handed. Iced coffee seemed a safer bet when she stood outside the community center, picking polish from her thumb, taking her time as reality loomed heavier and closer. A girl was missing. It was a stones through until someone blamed her. She knew it. It's how it went in these small, simple towns. It didn't matter the truth. It mattered laying the ugly thing to rest. Self preservation, Rosie told herself as she crushed dying embers with the tip of black boots.
Entering the room she sat the iced coffee wordlessly on the table, take it, trash it- she said she didn't care. A coffee in either hand she found a seat next to Dusk, extending the coffee she got specifically for her over, "It's not the generic shit," she spoke quietly, resting her arms on the back of the chair, dark eyes scanning the room full of the people she had least expected to ever willingly be in the same place at once. "I don't think anyone wants to hear my theories," Rosie frowned, her chin poking upwards to look at Dusk with a flash of concern. They didn't have to be here, right? The thought seemed to weigh her more to her seat. A languid sigh and Rosie shrugged out of her coat, " I'll go a head and say it- the cops are fucking useless and I doubt they're doing anything meaningful in all of this," Rosie proclaimed with a wave of her hand.

where. the coolsville community center who. dusk morgan & anyone [2/4]
ever since it was revealed that charlotte blackwood had never returned home one night, dusk hasn't been able to sleep soundly through the night. in fact, it seems every day that charlotte has remained missing, dusk's dreams have become even more dark and disturbing.
if you asked her about it, or why she was wearing sunglasses inside during the morning hours, she'd brush you off with some lie about being hungover. because there is no way in hell she'd offer up the information that she's become a partial insomniac due to reoccurring, guilt ridden, dreams.
parking the second hand car in an open spot, she grabbed her bag and headed inside the community center. not bothering to lock the doors. what was the point? there was nothing to steal, and up until two weeks ago she was pretty certain petty theft was even too hardcore for coolsville.
it seemed she wasn't the first or the last to arrive at the agreed upon meeting place. all of three curt smiles given to the members of the group she knew (and ignoring the rest), dusk found a spot that seemed to be empty. "anyone sitting here?" she called out into the room, waiting only a handful of second before taking the seat. her feet immediately came up to the edge of the chair as she partially perched, ready for anything, it seemed.
turning to the closest person nearby, dusk asked, "so uh... how is this supposed to begin? are we all just throwing theories out, or?"
