from the beginning , there was never a moments peace to the life of criston cole. born to lieutenant general cyrus cole and helia sand , his life was spent traveling across nations with a lack of any true home. broke into him from a young age was a core ethics of discipline and duty. the meaning of it all left a young cole isolated and alone from others his age. it was at the age of ten that his mother passed from an unknown illness , a tragedy that he and his father never recovered from. cyrus cole was driven completely into his work , and for that his son payed the price. at sixteen , after having enough of the hammer brought down upon him in dorne , criston made home in kings landing for his final years of school. his military family and dedication to discipline brought him into the life of private security where he was recruited to the targaryen family. for two and a half years he worked his way through the guards and was made head of security over the heir to the family line : rhaenyra. after a dispute took place between them , cole having no where else to go , thought only of making something for himself in dorne and returned home to join the army under his fathers influence. the next four years drove him to insanity. everything in his life seemed to weigh upon him and he thought there was no return. one night , after a particularly difficult encounter , the young cole made an attempt on his own life. after his father heard word of these actions , criston was dismissed from his active duties and banished from dorne , sworn never to return again for as long as he would live. disgraced and broken , no home to run too , the soldier of ruin went back to the city of kingslanding.
