you might not respond to me, and that's fine i just wanted to ask and this might be odd but i have the same name as you and i was wondering do you have the misfortune of having to spell it out all the time to people like say for orders, etc.? it might be a less common name where i live but i find i have to spell it out / correct people all the time. do you feel annoyed sometimes by this? i was just curious from someone else who has the same name as me & i wondered if this only happens here...

Oh, people mess my name up ALL the time. It’s more common for people to mispronounce it than get it right. I typically have people pronounce it “Alana”, “Aliana”, “Alina”, “Alania”, literally ANY way you can think of pronouncing it other than Alaina. Which…I think it’s pretty straight forward phonetically ( Uh-lain-uh) but apparently not. It doesn’t help that I’ve met other people who spell it vastly different as well. (Alayna, Alannah, Elena, Elaina, Aleena, Elayna, etc.). I’ve learned to take it in stride since my last name is pretty difficult to pronounce — I literally used to raise my hand before a new teacher or sub called roll because they would stumble upon reading my name and I preferred them to not even try. It’s still annoying, though. So to answer, yes, it definitely is mispronounced in the southern US.
