TRUCY is splashes of blue, a deck of cards, sunshine on a rainy day, a look of wonder in a child’s eyes, tight hugs, gentle laughter, singing slightly off-key, the feeling of being tucked into warm blankets on a cold morning, the smell of burnt pancakes and too much syrup, ice cream on fall afternoons, piggy-back rides, flowing capes, fresh-baked cookies that are imperfect and lumpy  ( the kind with m&ms ), smiles that you cannot help but fall in love with, sleeping kids being carried by their parents  ( and over-excited children dragging their parents by the hand ), the kind of sad that you can barely notice and they wouldn’t admit.

MILES is a berry red, a game of chess in which one party is a clear winner, freshly-brewed tea, a certain television theme song, bouquets of flowers, the air early on an autumn day, a gentle touch on his shoulder, couches comfortable enough to sleep on, being wrapped up in blankets to watch a movie in the evening, warm hands against his own, comfortable silence, a crackling log fire, the smell of fresh books, winding staircases, quiet confidence, the scratch of a pen on paper, a person with arms wrapped protectively around someone else.

          he tries his BEST not to laugh, he really does. he is putting all of his expendable effort into keeping a straight face, into taking kristoph gavin seriously. of course, that doesn’t pan out; not when kristoph has said something so laughable as THAT.

          it feels like a feeble, last-ditch attempt at holding onto some remaining shred of dignity, of SUPERIORITY.  ( it’s unsuccessful. )

          once his laughter has died down, he offers a shrug of his shoulders; a shake of his head. he is unphased—or, at the very least, it appears that way.

       he takes in a deep breath, nodding slightly. she’s right  ( she always is );  they’ll be okay, just like every time before. things are stacked against them pretty high this time—a high-profile, generally disliked client that they’d been told threatened not to defend—but that wasn’t too far out of the usual. they had the prosecutors’ office and the precinct on their side, and this certainly wasn’t the worst situation they’d been in  ( eyes on you, de killer and engarde ).
