I really hate discussions about trans-related topics and transphobia with the vast majority of people in my personal network. It can be constructive but the groups of people linked to my local area are frankly horrible.
There’s no genuine discussion. Everything is 1) a “gotcha!” to try and paint a different member of the community as transphobic whether it makes sense or not (legit just saw someone call a trans man transphobic for saying he was feeling dysphoric today, because that implies some bodies are more male than others), 2) a way to try and gain social clout 3) REALLY condescending (uwu your a manly man, you cute boy you!) 4) fetishy as hell or 5) clearly to sound woke.
Like thanks but no thanks. This isn’t why I’m stealth but I makes me damn happy I am.

Like, attraction can be compared to food, sure. But at some point, you gotta realize that eating a food you don't like is way less serious than dating someone you aren't attracted to. Like, liking donuts but not other pastries and being gay are WILDLY different.
Here's the thing about metaphors and similies.
They are great to simplify more complex or foreign ideas into something other people can understand.
But the things you are comparing are, by nature, not the same. Metaphors only go so far, and not everything transfers over.
It's becoming a pet-peeve of mine, just to see metaphors in arguments, just because they are used as a "gotcha"!

It would be so much easier if the world could be cut into two clean, non-overlapping circles of good/right opinions and people and bad/wrong opinions and people, but it’s not. It’s a hot mess of Venn diagrams that fluctuate and change as we learn more and change as a society.
The reality is, you can pick pretty much any ideological group you like, and no matter what you will have /something/ in common with them. You can pick any person you like and do the same thing.
The reality is that you can do ‘bad’ things in the name of ‘good’ ideals. You can do ‘good’ things in the name of ‘bad’ ideals. You can take ideas to extremes, you can twist them around, you can completely remake them.
The world is not black and white, and just /saying/ that is not the same as incorporating that into how you actually interact with the world and how you actually interact with your own observations and beliefs.
And acknowledging that things are not always simple and clear cut doesn’t mean you have to excuse things you find morally repugnant or wrong. It really doesn’t.
