much needed nuance to victims of medical neglect who've had their mental health issues mistreated who make be having severe reactions: it is harder to do these things while mentally ill. it's not a moral failing to not be able to do these, but ultimately if you are able to do these you will see an improvement. i'm a long term sufferer of chronic depression. but i finally got the courage to finally commit to spending an hour in the sun offline every day to work on making art and trying to refill my water bottle every day. it's improved immensely. but that doesn't mean that it's easy. if you can't force yourself into these new habits, you can't afford nutritious food, etc, you're still just as worthy of happiness and treatment as everyone else.

i know that knee jerk reaction to lash out at others. but seeing it as a piece of advice rather than a barrier to treatment makes a difference. change is difficult.

When I was 12, and homeschooled, and had unlimited internet access on my second hand laptop, all I felt upon discovering ao3 was unmitigated joy.
