Does ANYONE notice how Rumi is the only one out of HUNTR/X to not have her arms clothed at the climax of the movie, signalling that she finally feels safe in her own skin?? How she visibly has her patterns shine on her skin after the bath house scene?

How Mira fights back crying IN the bath house scene, only to choose to break down in front of the people she finally feels comfortable around?? That SHE'S the one to sing, "let the jagged edges meet the light instead," because, even after all of their years as HUNTR/X, Mira hasn't opened up fully to her best friends despite SAYING, "but with you guys, it's okay."

How Zoey is the first that we see wake up from the Saja Boys' spell, how after years of being a people pleaser and being unable to find the space to talk for herself, she knows what to choose and how she earnestly tells Rumi how glad she is that they didn't decide to kill her . Zoey was the one from the very start to entertain the idea that demons could be nice in the first place! And now she's validated in that through Rumi.

One thing I am inordinately mad about is Celine. No, not her character (though it's absolutely understandable), her voice actor.

See, she's voiced in song by Miss Lea Salonga, Asian Broadway queen, Tony award winner in Miss Saigon, recently got to sing the US national anthem at a New York Yankees game, absolute international Filipino icon.

A-and she only got to sing one line in the Hunter's lullaby with child Rumi in the movie.

(don't get your hopes too high about the quality)

A few things to note about stuff for you to get the full scope of this here:

This isn't a super-direct translation. If it were, there'd be a lot of weird sentences flowing weirdly haha

"Habilin" in "utos at habilin" doesn't really have a direct English translation. "Wish" is close, but not quite there. "Utos" means "to order/command", but "habilin" is kinda the same but not really. The way my mom put it is "utos is 'do this now', habilin is 'okay I'm gonna be out for a bit can you please do this while I'm gone ty'".

"Alay" means "offering" or "[give an] offering", but I guess "sacrifice" is also a proper translation in this context of giving a thing to something of higher importance haha

There is a LOT of Christian imagery here, so here's that stuff to point out specifically:

What with the Philippines being a Catholic country, this version of this song is a huge, amazingly done distortion of Catholic-Christian principles and I love it for that

In Christianity, salvation is a BIG concept. It's the reason why y'know people would accept God and become Christian, and part of it is repentance, where you leave your old self and your old vices behind to become new in Christ.

It's emphasized a LOT in Christianity that Jesus/God is the only path to salvation, and you NEED Jesus/God in this formula to truly have salvation.

God answers people's prayers out of divine love.

While it's not always the reason someone becomes Christian, a common trope for converting is that someone who's sick with some kind of illness the doctors are scratching their heads at will encounter a Christian, the Christian will pray for them and for their illness to be cured (consider it a Christian love language, if you will), and then they're cured not long after that.

Christians are considered "children of God".

My dumbass saw that "Tanging" ("only") was capitalized in Netflix's captions and thought it was a reference to how most things that are supposed to refer to God are capitalized to emphasize His role ("God", "Lamb", "Savior", etc.). Turns out it was just Netflix's Tagalog captions being shit at spacing lines properly, but it still fits tbh

"Talang tutupad sa dalangin" literally means "prayer request", which is a prayer for something you really need or want for whatever reason and need/want it enough that you're sharing it to someone else for them to pray with you about it. It could be anything, but usually it's something like wisdom, energy, health, strength, riches :333c

Diyos-diyosa has a kinda double meaning I think, because it means "god and goddess", but the actual lyric is "diyos-diyosan", which means to pretend to be God :]c

Something I noticed is that when things start unraveling, Rumi of course is focused on the mission and getting rid of her patterns, but Zoey is right behind her.

When they lose the people in the train, Zoey says "we can't do this without your voice". Not "without you". Your voice. It's unusually pragmatic or her to speak of Rumi in those terms. It's a cold kind of selflessness, she has to think of the bigger picture.

Then, when they're about to sing Golden at the awards, Rumi says "for the fans" (read: the honmoon), and Zoey follows with "for the world". Again, big picture selflesness.

But Mira? After the train what she says is the need to stick together. And before Golden she says "for us".

While Rumi and Zoey are focused on the mission, if with slightly different motivations, Mira always puts her family first.
