my favorite scene in LotR as a kid was when Sam started miserably freestyling in the tower of Cirith Ungol and the only reason he ever found Frodo was because he deliriously tried to join in

New interview with Delainey!
Key Takeaways that are so devastating I can't even comprehend:
Claudia really admired Lestat a lot but could never admit it. The final look she gives to Lestat as she's burning is a daughter looking to her father and asking "Dad! Help me!", because Lestat is the only other person in that room that Claudia trusts.
Claudia's last thought was seeing the pain and anguish in Lestat's face and realizing "maybe I really did mean something to Lestat", but she'll never truly know.
Claudia and Lestat are the most alike, and Claudia felt Lestat's care for her during the early years, but she was too stubborn to listen or admit he was right once she sees the horrors of the coven.
The coven was "slowly and sadistically" torturing Louis and Claudia the entire time.
Claudia feels that she's a burden to Louis, and she's dragging Louis along as an unwilling deadweight.
Louis seeing the love that Madeleine had for Claudia as he's turning Madeleine is something Louis will always carry with him, because it signifies to him that someone did purely love Claudia and that Claudia did experience *more* than what Louis and Lestat could give her.
Louis dragging Claudia during the revisit to her turning was a decision made between Jacob, Sam, and Rolin and was meant to symbolize Claudia being their doll instead of them realizing she's a whole person with her own thoughts and feelings.
Claudia really did love Louis and Lestat and really did see them as her parents, but she also hated them, and it was an eternal struggle.
Some of Claudia's true feelings about Louis and Lestat were not written in her diaries, because writing those feelings made them real to Claudia. She didn't want to face the reality.
I just —
I AM PUNCHED IN THE GUT! 😭😭😭😭

Emotional Walls Your Character Has Built (And What Might Finally Break Them)
(How your character defends their soft core and what could shatter it) Because protection becomes prison real fast.
✶ Sarcasm as armor. (Break it with someone who laughs gently, not mockingly.) ✶ Hyper-independence. (Break it with someone who shows up even when they’re told not to.) ✶ Stoicism. (Break it with a safe space to fall apart.) ✶ Flirting to avoid intimacy. (Break it with real vulnerability they didn’t see coming.) ✶ Ghosting everyone. (Break it with someone who won’t take silence as an answer.) ✶ Lying for convenience. (Break it with someone who sees through them but stays anyway.) ✶ Avoiding touch. (Break it with accidental, gentle contact that feels like home.) ✶ Oversharing meaningless things to hide real depth. (Break it with someone who asks the second question.) ✶ Overworking. (Break it with forced stillness and the terrifying sound of their own thoughts.) ✶ Pretending not to care. (Break it with a loss they can’t fake their way through.) ✶ Avoiding mirrors. (Break it with a quiet compliment that hits too hard.) ✶ Turning every conversation into a joke. (Break it with someone who doesn’t laugh.) ✶ Being everyone’s helper. (Break it when someone asks what they need, and waits for an answer.) ✶ Constantly saying “I’m fine.” (Break it when they finally scream that they’re not.) ✶ Running. Always running. (Break it with someone who doesn’t chase, but doesn’t leave, either.) ✶ Intellectualizing every feeling. (Break it with raw, messy emotion they can’t logic away.) ✶ Trying to be the strong one. (Break it when someone sees the weight they’re carrying, and offers to help.) ✶ Hiding behind success. (Break it when they succeed and still feel empty.) ✶ Avoiding conflict at all costs. (Break it when silence causes more pain than the truth.) ✶ Focusing on everyone else’s healing but their own. (Break it when they hit emotional burnout.)

Watching TikTok try and rewrite fandom history by saying fandom culture was created by teenage girls makes me eye twitch to an extent I’ve never felt it twitch before. The middle aged women printing out Spirk erotica to share with each other in the 1900s did not die for this!!!! How dare you erase our important historic moments!!! You would be nowhere without the 30 year old women who dedicated their free time to making these spaces happen. Put some respect on their names!!!!

it's okay, ulysses ogre. you can back up and try dubliners, it's a short story collection with much more straightforward prose, you can dive deep on one piece at a time, and once you've toyed around with that then I'm sure you'll have an easier time with ulysses. besides, I had an irish lit professor who'd been studying finnegans wake for twenty years and she said she still didn't really know what was going on in it. ulysses ogre, what really matters is if you are enjoying your time with literature and feel like you are gaining something, not whether you reach the "correct" conclusions. there's no need to try and force yourself through something if you feel like you aren't on an even enough plane with the text to reap any of its rewards.
