⧼♞⧽ PRIVATELY, EALDFRITH THINKS IT WOULD BE FASTER if they just hunted their food. But apparently shopping was the norm here, so he follows his charges' whims to go to the supermarket.
"10 pounds is too much," he says quickly. "We won't be able to eat them fast enough."
Knowing Tae she'd just boil them and eat them plain, a prospect that sends a shudder down his spine.
"Just a handful is enough," he adds cheerfully, then looks at Lilith for confirmation. "We should add some greens, too."

Hypnum Insomnum ★₊˚⊹✧˖°. Evacuation
A normal morning. A normal day. And with both of these, what had become a fairly normal routine for Lilith. Two of her closest companions, Tae and Ealdfrith, would join her on shopping trips for their meals. Lilith loved the Market District dearly.
The hustle and bustle, and all of the friendly faces always made her mornings so bright even as the sun was rising. It reminded her of the Laurel Valley Market she would witness from the church windows. She sometimes imagined this was what it was like there too.
The little trio was gathered beside the vegetable stalls, picking up some items for a stew before selecting a cut of meat in another location. ( Ealdfrith wished for fresher meats, Lilith begged he use an animal already slain so its life would not go to waste )
Tumblr media
" ooh, what about these? " she pointed at what appeared to be miniature purple potatoes. Something about the size of them made her smile. " these would add such a lovely color to the stew! Surely they taste as good as they appear. " Purple was also her favorite color.

⧼♞⧽ CONSULTING HIS SHOPPING LIST, Ealdfrith isn't paying much attention to the ground as he walks with a basket of vegetables in hand.
Cue a bump in the road.
Cue him stumbling over said bump.
He's too well-trained to fall, of course, but the three tomatoes hurtling out of his basket aren't so skilled.
"Ah, no—!"
There was someone right in front of him!

⧼♞⧽ THE TEMPORAL GARDENS OFFERED WELCOME RESPITE from the frosty temperatures of the winter city. More importantly, they seemed to be home to a certain strain of mushroom that Ealdfrith was sure did well in soup.
Still, it'd be better to check first just in case, so as he bent down to pluck one from the earth...surprise?
T-there seemed to be someone leaning against it from the other side? He crouched down for a closer look and was astonished to see the tiniest girl he'd ever met.
"H-hello?"
Fingers hesitated inches from the fungus, uncertain how to proceed.

⧼♞⧽ COLORFUL LINGO ASIDE, Ealdfrith more or less gets the idea. There was always one villager per town who liked to complain about their livelihood. They usually did double shifts as town criers, though the knight isn't sure if those exist here.
"I haven't worked out how to use my fone yet," he admits openly. "But I've looked around and there's a good portion of wilderness here with no guards forbidding entry to their grounds. If you do some good hunting, you could earn yourself a bit of coin."
Though Ealdfrith isn't sure how well the man can fight with only vision out of one eye...ah! Was that why he was writing about having no money?!
"I'd be happy to accompany you," he adds brightly. "I often kill my own game while traveling."
A scholar....sure. Investigating is more or less a lot of reading, a lot of prodding and theorizing. It should be counted as such! Even if you aren't a cop! Someone write a petition.
"Procl-- no, it's uh, more of an opinion piece on the economy and how we're all broke as shit. This place sends out stuff from time to time...newsletters and I think you can read it on your phone."
Tumblr media
Oh no he might have to fake something to not make this guy feel bad...

⧼♞⧽ A MONTH? He can hardly believe it, and when Tae explains more details he's even more lost.
"Then...then have I been with a fake Lady Lilith for the past month?!"
It was an alarming thought. He's fairly sure he knows Lilith well enough to see contradictions in her speech or behavior, but if what Tae says is true, then he was thoroughly fooled. Sensing Tae's hand on him, he quickly turns to grip her by the shoulders, scanning her questioningly from head to toe.
"You don't look any different either...Tae, this is too strange. You better tell me the rest while we walk. Now I'm not sure if I've left my body behind and only came here with my head instead."
Well, not that he had much of one to begin with.
Tumblr media
"Silly Ealdfrith," Tae can't help but say with a soft laugh. "Upon our arrival here, everything is taken from us. Spices and such, we'll have to get. Do not worry though!" Lilith's home was filled with different spices. Probably either Lilith purchased them or someone else.
Of course, Tae was unaware of how her cooking was toward other people.
She pauses and only then does she place a hand on Ealdfrith's arm and looks up at him. She really did miss him, but he has no idea how long he's been away!
"When I arrived here by Lilith's side, I had been gone for a few weeks in Lilith's eyes. You were not with us for about a month. There is much to catch up on!"

⧼♞⧽ FOR BETTER OR FOR WORSE, the sarcasm flies over Ealdfrith's head. Instead, he gives Uriah a level look before slowly shaking his head.
"I believe the prince is a good man. Otherwise, I wouldn't be working for him."
At least this man was willing to talk instead of jumping into a fight like the usual riffraff. Ealdfrith's not sure how well he can fight with the strange fork the Guardian gave him, but a good knight knew to avoid unnecessary clashes.
"As for sayings, they follow me everywhere. I've been away for home for years now—nobody really knows me, thought a lot of them think they do. So let them believe what they will."
Instead he leans forward, smiling guilelessly. "I don't want to make more enemies if I can help it. We're already in a strange place—it doesn't hurt to work together, right?"
Tumblr media
Uriah grunts, and leans forward from his previous leaned-back position, to grab his drink and take a long sip from the cup. He savors the flavor and places the cup back down and straight to leaning back into a relaxed position again.
"I wouldn't dare make an enemy out of the prince," he says. Though, his words are laced with sarcasm.
"I only know you, because there are some sayings about you, too." Did he know about them? Did he know what people were saying about the silver-haired Knight from afar, far away land?
"Depending on who you ask, I can be an enemy or I can be an ally." It wasn't a complete lie. he COULD work with the knight, but unfortunately, that may not happen. After all, he was protecting something that Uriah was after.

⧼♞⧽ IT'S TRUE HE WAS NEW, though that would've been common knowledge to anyone who asked. The silver-haired knight serving Priestess Lilith was a pretty obvious post. Ealdfrith is more surprised—nay, confused—that this man would keep badgering him about the prince.
"It's not befitting a knight's honor to listen to hearsay," he shook his head firmly. "If there are any doubts about His Highness Valerius, I will ask the prince himself."
The royal, he was sure, was simply like any other young man hopelessly in love: too awkward to express himself properly, and most likely misunderstood as a result.
"Instead, I don't understand why you want me to doubt him so much. Has His Highness done you a wrong for you to hold a grudge? Or are you one of the prince's enemies?"
It doesn't occur to him that Lilith could be a target when Uriah keeps talking about Valerius to his face.
"In fact," Ealdfrith blinked. "You know me, but I don't know you. Who are you?"
Uriah doesn't mind that the man takes a seat. He's been wanting to talk to the Knight anyway when he found out from his father that the priestess had herself a knight.
"Sure. It's one thing to have secrets and it's another to keep from someone. You know, the whole lying business." He needs this knight out of the way if he's going to succeed. Damn, his being brought here only soils his plan. He should've killed Lilith when he had the chance.
"You're new to Concordia, mm? I'm sure you've heard of some of the rumors about the prince. You should listen to them."

⧼♞⧽ THE DEFEATED LOOK IN HIS EYES DISAPPEARS ENTIRELY, replaced with a wonderful sense of warmth as Ealdfrith slowly realizes who is standing by his side.
"Lady Lilith! I—yes, it's me, I was sent here—Lady Tae said you were as well—why are you crying?"
All speech goes out the window as he pats his pockets in distress, looking for a handkerchief—but what knight carried one of those around that was fit for a fair maiden to use? Bereft, Ealdfrith can only offer a clean section of sleeve, all while shifting his body to shield Lilith from the rest of the street.
After all, a lady needed her privacy in moments like this.
"What kinds of knaves or monsters have been tormenting you?" he frets in a softer voice. "Let me know, and I'll take care of them."
The people he's met have all been a little strange so far. It wouldn't be unusual for one of them to have hurt her, even unintentionally.
Lilith had become rather fond of her walks around the streets, particularly in the area of the park. All bundled up in a winter coat and scarf, she loved to marvel at the snow and how pretty the world was. So pure and bright ( though a small part of her heart ached for her companion, Duncan )
And yet on this particular walk, she noticed something curious - well, curious to her this particular day; she was curious about something basically every day.
Up in the distance she saw a figure, a male with lovely silver hair and golden eyes. She once knew someone who looked similar to him... she'd remembered the last time she saw him, entering the woods for a usual hang out. He wasn't there when her vision had occurred... and she worried for him all the same. ( he was so dedicated, she hated to leave him alone for too long for fear he might worry himself )
As she walked closer she got more she had a strange feeling... he really did remind her of- a soft gasp as she approached the man himself. She cautiously slowly, tapped upon his arm to gather his attention.
Tumblr media
" Sir Ealdfrith? " Her eyes were wide as she stared at him. Hope fluttered in her chest with hope and wonder. " is... is it truly you? " She smiled softly, as tears began to form in her eyes.

⧼♞⧽ HE DIDN'T ANSWER THE QUESTION, Ealdfrith notes to himself. Something to think about later, then. At the very least the man isn't hostile, even if he's fond of speaking in riddles.
"I'm aware that a prince has many secrets to keep," he replies, sliding into a seat himself since Uriah looked ready to talk. "But that's really none of my concern. He's charged me with an honorable duty, one I intend to see to the end."
Yes, all the way to the marriage altar for the two happy souls.
Tumblr media
Something about how that question is asked has Uriah shifting in his seat to get more comfortable. "It's nothing like that if that's what you're thinking."
He should be careful, he notes to himself. Wouldn't want the Knight to know that someone was out for the Princess. Hm, though, Uriah wonders...
"You ever wonder if His Highness is what he says he is?"

⧼♞⧽ WRITING AN ARTICLE...?
"I see, so you're a scholar of sorts!" Ealdfrith concludes while hitting a fist in his palm. He doesn't look the type, though. Or maybe he does, being so bad at fighting that it cost him an eye? There was no rule saying all scholars had to be peaceable types.
He tries a peek at the other side of the lens, still curious.
"Is it for some kind of proclamation? I've just arrived, so I don't know where I should go to read it?"
As for pictures coming out of a little box, Ealdfrith doesn't think much of it. After all, magic existed.
Badou's a bit of a shutterbug even when he isn't working-- this time around he's going about a bit of both. There's a location he's got to get some photos of-- and if he were the poetic type, he'd say how nice the sky looks, that clear blue, like a robin egg or something.
Tumblr media
When he's approached curiously, his own curiosity is right there.
"Me? I'm taking some pictures of the place. For an article I'm writing."
Certainly half a lie.

⧼♞⧽ WHILE IT RELIEVES HIM to know that his lady is alive and well, Tae's phrasing makes Ealdfrith crinkle his brows.
"Dinner? But what about lunch?" He had just left them to hunt food before ending up here. "Did you two eat without me?"
It hasn't occurred to him yet how they could've been pulled out of different times from the same world—after all, wouldn't he have noticed either of them missing somewhere down the line?
But judging from the light in the sky (if this world's sun was reliable, that is), it has been sometime past the noonday meal. Shaking his head, Ealdfrith prudently decides to focus on the present.
"I will be honored to come to Lady Tae's dinner. Do we still have our travel spices, or will we need to find more?" He was more concerned about that last bit, actually.
Tae could cook food to eat but...so could a raw flame, at the end of the day.
Tumblr media
"Mhm!" She does give a soft thanks in between, "Lilith is doing wonderful. There are so many people here who grew fond of her." In other words, Tae TRUSTED that no harm would come to her beloved friend. She knew she could trust a few others to watch Lilith's back.
"She is currently at home. I was just about to go shopping to fix something for us during dinner time." Tae gasps and clasps her hands together. "OH! Lilith will be SO happy to hear that you're here. You HAVE to come for dinner." Of course, he would do. Tae didn't have to ask him twice.
