good place to start! Hope you have fun collecting.
Tumblr media
I got a record player for Christmas!
Tumblr media
Records have never really been my thing. I collect CDs and DVDs.
I have friends that collect records and it's seems harder to handle. (More expensive, takes more space, more care needed to keep them safe and clean)
But! I do appreciate the history behind them and how they sound.
I've had a 45 for awhile that I meant to take to my friend's house it listen to. Instead my dad bought me my very own record player!
Tumblr media
I had to take the lid off for it to fit on the shelf😭
I went to a local record store with a friend that know how records work. I ended up with Conspiracy of One by The Offspring!
My favorite album by them. My mom's least favorite because my CD version got stuck in her car and for months it was the only thing her car would play and "[She] never wants to hear it again"
Tumblr media
I also ordered the Jschlatt Christmas album.
I wanted to get it second hand but people are selling it for $300??!?!!! Schlatt hasn't even stopped selling it himself??? Why do people do that?????

chariot Rising by Dantalian's Chariot
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Originally released 1995
More info under the line vvv
So if you’re unfamiliar with Dantalian’s Chariot, it was a 60s psychedelic band from the UK with the lead singer being Zoot Money, they released one single, and although recorded enough material for one album.
That album was never released until 1995, it has been reissued a few times, this is the most recent reissue from November of this year (2024) by the company Guerssen.
Two different versions where released, the plain black vinyl one, and a limited to 110 colored vinyl version (what I have)
(Mine is marked copy 52/110 if anyone also finds the numbered copies cool) This is actually my first splattered record, and I’m definitely happy with it.
If you like psych, and haven’t listened to Chariot Rising, I totally recommend it, it’s a great album, also it’s on music streaming services, if you have some time to spare, need a album to put on, I’d say it’s worth a shot, it’s a lot of fun

Cherry People by Cherry People
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Originally released in 1968
More behind this suspiciously placed line vvv
If you want a very solid and cheap record, may I introduce to you a favorite of mine? I got mine online and I believe it was around 8 dollars with shipping, this is a cheap record, but it is a wonderful record, truly you cannot get the same experience listening to it online as how great it sounds on vinyl! Vinyl is getting expensive, but not all the good albums are expensive right now, so I do highly recommend giving this one a listen

Yardbirds by The Yardbirds
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Originally released 1966
More behind this conveniently placed line vvv
So sometimes you see this album referred to as either “Roger the Engineer” which is because the name written around the wire coming from a thing the guy is holding, but more interestingly, sometimes you hear this album referred to as “Over Under Sideways Down” which is because although it was self titled in the UK, in many other places it was released under that titled with a completely different cover.
My copy is a 1983 reissue from the UK, and although I do not live in the UK, I did find this at a local record store, no idea how it got here, but I own it, and I’m quite happy to, I think I paid 8 for it; and it plays like new so not upset with that.

The History of The Left Banke (compilation by Rhino Records)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Originally released in 1985
More below vvv
So this was a compilation from the 80s and if you’re on a budget, love this band, this is honestly the place to go for their work on vinyl. The median price on Discogs is 15 dollars, you can get it for cheaper pretty easily, it’s a high quality release, and like first printings of their albums are pretty expensive. It’s a very nice record, especially since it comes with a pamphlet (unless you buy it from someone who lost the pamphlet) definitely worth the money, not all the good records are expensive at least yet, here’s a example of that!

Magic Christian Music by Badfinger
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Originally released in 1970
Some notes under the magic line vvv
So this album gets chocked up to just a soundtrack album, but in reality most of the songs weren’t in the film The Magic Christian, although the song “come and get it” was written for this band by Paul McCartney to be used in that film, it’s nothing like the other music Badfinger did. They were a phenomenal Power Pop band, that had a very tragic ending that I will not get into here, but if you’re interested, you can find information for what happened online pretty easily.
Probably a notable song they wrote was the song “Without You” that has a extremely iconic Harry Nilsson cover
