“Is she?” Dylan laughed. “Now that’s certainly one way to crush a guy’s ego,” he said through his laugh not being bothered by the said fact. He understood waitress’ dynamic and couldn’t blame her for wanting to make more money. After all, something so small as a smile could open all doors. “Nah, don’t worry. Considering I’m also a bartender, I understand her, plus I always leave good tips, no matter what.” He knew how stressful the job could be.
Tumblr media
Eliza shrugged attempting to being some levity to her situation. “I’ve been working here maybe a week? I’ve seen her make three people cry. And she’s left with someone different each night. Which, personally, I find impressive and I would love to see her Google calendar, but I digress...” Eliza trailed off as she focused on wiping the counter. “I wasn’t trying to sell her out. I know it seems that way. I haven’t done this in a while...” Eliza motioned to her working the espresso bar before continuing. “You just seemed very chuffed. And... well I guess no harm no foul if you end up leaving a good tip.”

It was a plight that rang oddly familiar to Evan. There had been a period of about six months where the little cooktop in their bus had been on the fritz, and last minute meals almost always came down to whatever hole in the wall was slinging enough burgers to feed a family of seven. Sometimes, walking into Crashdown and smelling the grease, she almost forgot she was on her own now.
“Sixth?” She repeated, a little emphasis, but hopefully not enough to completely shame the woman, just to impress upon her how dire the situation was. “Hatch is going to have more options for you, ramen or wings or emapanadas,” Ev said, thumb jutting out from one hand as she began to list other local eateries. “Pizza Planet is different but y'know, just pizza. Nebula is where you’ll want to go if you’re looking for a full-burger detox though, the spinach lasagna is life-changing.” She’d flicked out an additional finger for each place she’d named, and in an effort to show-off (not that it would be considered that to anyone but her) and spread the whole hand she added the last two at once, explaining, “Cosmic Candy and the juice place are good, too, but not as a main source of sustenance.”
Tumblr media
Eliza nodded, almost shamefully, realizing how desperate that sounded. “Six. The first night is sounded good and it was good. Day two was a craving. Day three was because I needed something quick to go. Day four was decision fatigue. Day five and six were just... Me losing my mind at that point.” Eliza’s head drifted to the side. She wasn’t sure why she was trying to explain herself. “A diner has good... ramen? I think that’s why I was sticking with the burger. I was skeptical.”
With a nod, Eliza took all of Ev’s suggestions seriously. My body is craving spinach. Really any veggie at this point. Or a juice. A juice sounds good cause I could inhale all of the veggies at once. Seems like the most effective option for a burger-detox.”

emmett:
❝ they serve other foods in there y’know . ❞ emmett could rhyme off menu items like it was nobody’s business . trying everything at least once in his life , having lived here forever . ❝ like the sorta chicken . it’s supposed to be chicken , but it tastes sort of like fish . maybe some kind of minced hybrid , but it’s deep fried and if you smother it in ketchup it’s more than edible . ❞
Tumblr media
“You are really selling it,” Eliza remarked flatly, trying to keep the usual sarcasm out of her voice. She was too hungry and tired for sarcasm. “I think I saw a plate of that day two. It moved. Like a science project. No offense to the chicken-fish hybrid, but I think a cheeseburger is the only edible food on this menu.”

Rhys had only popped into the Crashdown very last minute to grab a coffee —- his usual haunt a little too far for him to walk in that moment, just desperate to get home and get some sleep. Hearing the woman’s words, however, he smiled and shrugged his shoulders. “Try Nebula,” he answered. “Very much not about the burgers over there. Or the food court, plenty choice if you feel like taking the walk.”
Tumblr media
“Like vegetables?” She asked, standing up a little straighter. “Cause I could really go ham on some zucchini right now.” Eliza should have just phoned up her brother at this point, but she was a little too proud and a little too soft for him just yet. “Any suggestions for a new, directionally-challenged resident who has trouble getting back to Jupiter Valley from anywhere but this exact spot?”

before noa could even say anything, she was silenced by that hand, her cheeks puffing out as if she were guilty of something. “okay, well…” she finally began, flashing the woman a soft expression as she leaned both elbows on the table she was occupying, looking wise for just a split second. “there are more restaurants in town besides the crashdown. you just have to know who to ask and where to look. you don’t need to be subjected to a burger for the sixth time.”
Tumblr media
“No, you’re right. Right and reasonable and I’m... not being that.” Eliza placed her head in her hands, having a quick little pity party, before picking herself up and shaking her feelings out. “I’ve been having a technology detox. Not quite on purpose, but the Crashdown is the only place I’ve managed to walk without getting lost.” Which was sad considering the town wasn’t that large. “Are you someone to ask? You seem like someone to ask.”

laptop bag in hand , his other arm slung with a duffel full of cables , jaden arrived at the crashdown to begin his work day . having an independent profession , one that relied solely on his own steam , meant that getting out of the house ensured an added layer of dedication , and so more often than not those sticky coffee cup marked tables became his desk . “ well , the saturn’s onion rings are out of this world , “ the male teased , sounding as though he was one of the mint-clad wait staff forced to wear sparkly alien antennae on their head , “ or i can recommend the milkshakes . does that count as food ?? “
Tumblr media
“Food? Yes. Sustenance? Probably not...” Eliza sighed as she adjusted her bag on her shoulder and turned to the dark-haired stranger. “I think you’ve sold me on the onion rings though. Food-related puns are my weakness. Probably why I’ve had the Alien Angus Cheeseburger so many times this week.” Eliza’s head tilted to the side. “This whole town is just space puns. Isn’t it?”

location: outside of the crashdown cafe open: to everyone!
Tumblr media
“There’s gotta be something other than a burger in this town. I need to eat something other than a burger...” Eliza mumbled to herself, not quietly, as she stared down the crashdown cafe for the third day in a row. Feeling someone watching her, she held out her hand to stop any judgement. “All of my items are in boxes right now. Including pots and pans. A 6th hamburger is not my top choice, but it’s been my only choice lately.”

dylan:
Open: to everyone Location: any coffee shop you want @roswellstarters
“Nah,” Dylan waved off the whole idea of him going out with a girl who was flirting with him her whole shift. “She’s cute, absolutely, but,” he really wasn’t up for dating. Not now. It would be insane to date when he still liked his ex. Though he was aware that he had a problem.. always liking girls better after the break up. Throwing another gaze at the girl before he returned his eyes onto the other, Dylan lightly shook his head while a small smile started to appear - barely visible. “Maybe I’ll come back here tomorrow.. we’ll see.”
Tumblr media
Eliza bit down on her bottom lip, trying to prevent herself from butting into the conversation, but it was difficult when she was working the coffee bar. She’d only been a barista at the shop for a week now, but she’d seen enough to know what her coworker’s endgame was. “She’s doing it for the tips!” Eliza blurted, quietly enough so they other girl couldn’t hear. Yeah... That wouldn’t bruise his ego. “No offense, but she flirts with everyone. They tip better. You can keep coming back but it will cost you.”
