It's been awhile since I said anything. So here's a short story:

Long ago humanity made a pact with something big. It would use the ambient magic and energy created by war for its own mysterious purposes and in return humanity would always be given the implements to maintain their wars.

This was not a choice anyone made consciously, rather it was a choice everyone made collectively.

So humanity fought and killed each other for thousands of years all while being fed increasingly more powerful and destructive ways to wage war. Eventually this thing revealed to humanity the ability to split atoms. Changing warfare forever. Not only for humanity but for all inhabitants of the universe.

In the simplest of terms, when an atom is split, it also splits all of the other atoms quantum entangled to it. No matter how innocent the hundreds of nuclear tests were, they were not all so innocent for other living beings.

This eventually attracted others to Earth which only played into the whims of the pact. Now humanity had someone else to fight. As time went on humanity spread their war across the universe. Wiping out uncountable lives with increasingly more destructive and horrific weapons of war. The effects of this war were not only universal, but temporal.

So humanity was stopped. From somewhere the war was ended and humanity imprisoned on Earth. Bound across time by magical chains and unexplainable forces. A just punishment for their sins.

The irony of the situation is that when humanity looks up to the night sky and questions, "are we alone?" the answer is, "yes." All because most life was killed by humanity in the future, jn such a way, that there is none left in the present.
