I haven’t actually gotten a good look at them or what the people were saying, because I was taking screenshots literally one right after the other so I could get them all. But they seem neat from what little I saw

Chapters 13 and 14 were proof the Cookies of Darkness are and always have been an actual threat. Licorice can control the licorice sea and does so. Pomegranate has magic so powerful that it can and does become out of her control, successfully cursing an ancient cookie whose will is supposed to be stronger than hers. Dark Choco (a man raised by someone whose most valuable trait as deemed by the gods is his willpower and resolve) has been so broken down by both Pomegranate and Dark Enchantress that he is willing to kill his own father in pursuit of their promise when before it was one of his biggest nightmares. They end up handing the throne to Affogato when it took him years to try and grab it for himself with all the careful planning and calculating and his attempt at extended murder. Affogato turns the entire kingdom into a cult in the short time Dark Cacao is removed from the throne. They almost win in this chapter. They only lose because Dark Choco finally breaks free after having been shown love from his father and refuses to help pick up the mess they’ve made for themselves- I’m not sure if four kids and an emotionally stunted adult could have beat whatever the hell it is they were gonna get thrown next. Dark Enchantress in Odyssey is less competent in creating the destruction her very competent followers create, and she has the most powerful magic on all of Earthbread and a personal army made entirely by her son at her disposal.

I want you all to know that what I’m implying is that Dark Enchantress has always been and always will be an incompetent leader who doesn’t know where the strengths of her followers lie and is far more focused on her pain and spite and the vile words she can spit at people than actually sitting down and coming up with a viable strategy. Dark Enchantress is one of the most intelligent people on Earthbread- it’s true. Your intelligence does not matter if you cannot utilize it. Dark Enchantress is throwing THE biggest temper tantrum anyone has ever seen and it’s evident when every time she, personally, pops up for more than just a couple lines, she is obsessed with her hatred for Pure Vanilla. She cannot let this man go. She goes so far as to pull him into her own dreams in the Crunchy Dreams event to continue to torment him with his ‘betrayal’ (I will get to analyzing that Crunchy Dream later do NOT worry) because she cannot be half assed to do anything actually important… or, perhaps, she has other intentions. Those don’t matter for this post.

She NEEDS someone as calculated and driven as Pomegranate to do all of the important work or her entire following will crumble away, with the exception of her son, who she has indoctrinated herself since her transformation. She NEEDS a powerful sorcerer like Licorice with enough of a broken spirit to be vulnerable to control, because everything she says is batshit, even when her objectives look good on paper. She NEEDS a child to indoctrinate because she’s familiar with indoctrinating children. She NEEDS people like Shwarzwalder who have constantly been excluded from society for the crime of not being born a cookie. She NEEDS someone like Affogato who is willing to spend years on his convoluted efforts to gain a chokehold on the political undercurrents of a kingdom for the simple want of comfort. She needs Red Velvet, someone who has two choices; serve, or die like the rest of them, stay and crumble away in the mouths of your creators, who chose to forsake you, who have already shown you exactly how willing they are to turn your life into their sustenance. Dark Enchantress takes vulnerable people, like she did Pure Vanilla, and she says all the right things to get them on board. If she were actually useful as a cult leader, she would be able to indoctrinate Dark Choco without the help of Pomegranate’s far-more-useful forced visions and her experience in being a High Priestess.

Edit: I find it necessary to add that all of the chapters where they’re being ‘silly’ or we’re meant to take them less seriously is due to the fact that Devsis is willing to show the villains as people with their own personalities and that, well, maybe they want to be silly. I can imagine working for Dark Enchantress and constantly being under Pomegranate’s scrutiny is physically, mentally, and emotionally draining, and at the end of the day all they want to do is be people and goof off, and they don’t get many opportunities to do that unless they leave Dark Enchantress’s grasp for a bit. They take the stage in the BTS update because they’re allowed self-expression for FREE.
