Changing Terms
Living with my Auntie is a special case... She is my elder and I have come to respect her so much so that I am unaware of my own self-respect.

Getting my groove
I am 24 and already I feel too late. Today I ran one suicide down my Aunt’s 50 foot long driveway.

One of the many great things that BGSU has given me. Is the opportunity to capture the nature and the environment on-campus beautiful moments like this. #nofilter look at the sun's color spectrums! Phenomenonal! And the glistening snow flakes and berries on the trees were astonishing too. But sadly my phone is not advanced enough to capture those very-elite details... 😵💙

"The water is cold..""Just jump in your body will adjust to the temperature!"
A blog about my efforts to post more blogs.
I understand that my posts' time schedule is spotty. I have been toe-testing the water, I am still trying to get in the pool, but the water is just too cold! The pool might warm-up for me eventually. But, eventually might be too late. So, I am finding it better to just jump in and start swimming!
Researching various news-topics and then analyzing the content to blog about has been a tedious task for me. Simply, because I have never swam in this kind of water before. But I am also finding that the more practice I get with this the more cool swim tricks I learn. And who knows but me, that maybe next time I'll skip the toe-test and head straight for the diving board! I will be a natural in a couple of months. I can feel it! :)

This is a blog posted by a fellow colleague of mine. It is about the shooting that happened in Paris-France in the beginning of January-- this year. I am re-blogging this post to respond to it...
I like this topic! But, particularity because this recently happened in a country I plan on visiting next month. Erika, within this blog, makes a claim that she agrees that the cartoonist should have been arrested. She stated in her blog that she found the conviction necessary because he-she broke the law of their land.
I also agree that law breakers should not go unpunished. When the cartoonist published the "anti-Islam" picture, it apparently triggered the shooting that left 12 people dead, and others injured or traumatized. I guess my question is, what was the cartoonist's intent for publishing the picture? Was he making a statement, just like many cartoonists and journalists have done before him-- for example, in America? Was he trying to promote change?
All of these unanswered questions, along with others I'm sure the people of India and Paris-France wonder, could petition for the cartoonist to be freed. Or even acknowledged by admirers. Could this man had been the first of his country to attempt to express his beliefs? Is his belief shared by most of India's population? I feel that there is a possibility that the cartoonist might have made a move for a social-change... But, will I ever find out for you guys... Stay tuned :)
This morning, according to the news outlet Dawn, the editor of the popular Urdu-language newspaper “Avadhnama” was arrested on Thursday after running Charlie Hebdo's anti-Islam cartoon.
The cartoon originally ran earlier this month, triggering the ambush of the satirical magazine’s...

"North Korea Tests Five Missiles" :Response
I went to the New York Times website and I wanted to venture their World-News section. And under this section I came across this story about North Korea's defense military testing out nuclear missiles. These tests are permissible under the command of Kim-Jong-un.
I had no idea that Kim existed as a real dictator of North Korea. Just recently a movie, "The Interview", that is directed by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogan became available for the public's purchase. If anyone has seen this movie they would know that Kim-Jong-un was the main antagonist of this film. Almost all of the content portrayed in this film about this dictator, I am just now finding out-- was true.
And when I would hear his name in the news, I just thought they were talking about, "The Interview". It is silly, I know. But sadly this is true for me. Turns out that North Korea has had a problem with the United States and even South Korea for quite some time now. The reporter of the news story I read, is suggesting that North Korea is threatening war with the US and South Korea!
This sounds crazy! I must look into this more...

BGSU's Spring 2015 Falcon Hatchery Event
By Eboni Jones, BGSU
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio– Colleges and universities worldwide are beginning to develop entrepreneurial curriculums such as Bowling Green State University’s Dallas-Hamilton Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership.
“It is rare that they [students] will find an institution that provides a center specifically aimed towards helping students develop a plan to start a business…” communications manager and The Hatch public relations officer Amy West said.
The center in addition to that offers students chances to have their plans invested into so that they may get their business started.
In spring 2015, Bowling Green State University’s college of business will be hosting their third-annual Falcon Hatchery event. This year’s spring event will feature nine BGSU undergraduate students all representing different colleges within the University and the event is expected to host local and statewide high schools and their students.
“All are welcome to this popular and historically life changing event,” West said.
“The idea is to get students from all educational backgrounds and majors to take advantage of this program” founder of ‘The Hatch’ and director of the Dallas-Hamilton Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership Kirk D. Kern said.
“The Hatch is [developing] into a company as well as it is a program” Kern said.
Since The Hatch program sprouted, in 2012, a variety of alumni investors from different university backgrounds have invested “… over $350,000 into student run businesses presented by the hatchlings” Amy West said.
Kirk Kern and the Dallas-Hamilton Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership are building this program “to encourage more firms and individuals to get involved and to make this product produce more revenue for the institution [BGSU]” Kern continued.
Kern and his team of people of whom are also enthusiastic about entrepreneurial education, are working on licensing this product [Hatch] in hopes to make it thrive in other Universities and entrepreneurial leadership program centers all around the world.
A legacy of student-entrepreneurship is being created throughout the growing development of The Hatch.
The Dallas-Hamilton center for Entrepreneurial Leadership have created an entrepreneurship curriculum for high school students. The Hatch mentors’ mentees will be mentors for these high school entrepreneur students at the Hatch event this spring.
BGSU hopes that the turn-out of this event will encourage these high school students to want to join the Falcon family. Universities all around the world are getting on board with this value and idea of The Hatch program.
“There is a market for entrepreneurship curriculums” Kern said “simply because no one else is doing it”.
The successes of BGSU student-entrepreneurial development program is creating an increase in educational institutions’ demand for entrepreneurship curriculums.
And as the market for educational institutions and firms’ demand for entrepreneurship curriculums increase –our nation can expect the private-social demand for more educational institutions that offer entrepreneurial curriculums and resources to increase as well.
“We live in a capitalistic society and we are driven by business…” founder of an award winning animatronics business also professor in BGSU the college of business Hatchling mentor Gene Poor said.
The Hatch is creating student enterprises for the future. Teaching them how to successfully conduct their own business so that it may thrive throughout local communities worldwide.
The way our nation’s businesses are conducted play a big role in the production of our nation’s economy.
There are small entities pertaining to the production, conduction, and success of a business that may take a long time to build.
“The addition of more businesses will not change the world overnight” Gene said.
However “businesses will change more in the next 10 years then it has in the last 50 [years]” Poor continued.
America’s current unemployment rate as of November this year is at approximately 5.8 percent. Our nation’s target rate for unemployment is four to six percent.
If the legacy and production of this entrepreneurial program proceeds throughout our nation, it may help our rate of unemployment reach its target.

I Did Not Give Consent
I have never been an avid follower of "the news". That is until this 2015 spring semester. Lately, I have been following up on stories from CNN, Fox News, Washington Post, New York Time... the list can go on. I have knowledge now on some outrageous events that are happening, happened, or will happen.
Just a few moments ago, on the 'CNN-HD' channel, CNN reporters reported a story about "two former football players...", of Vanderbilt University, "convicted" for rape of a young lady who reportedly was unconscious during the event. Reporters say that had the event not been video-recorded and photographed, then the young lady would have had no knowledge of the activity that went on without her consent.
Though this event took place in 2013, The football players, 21, were found guilty today. I find this story to be very important for me especially to have knowledge of. This event took place on a college campus! This story helps bring awareness of sexual abuse. Especially sexual abuse that occurs and the victim has no knowledge of it!
The victim in this case study was the girlfriend of one of the convicted football players. So this story is just one of many to prove that sexual assault and abuse on college campuses and everywhere is real ! It is very serious. This is a topic that should not be over looked or pushed to the side. Girls-women are under attack. It is hard as a woman to go out on the town and have a good time. Simply because of the threat of having too much fun and not being able to remember "what happened last night?"
The girl in this case, her boyfriend, the convicted, told her that next morning after the event that he "had to take care of her..." That statement, the victim said, led her to "apologize" ! If I was in that same situation, may God forbid, in that instant I would have apologized to my boy friend too.
The victim was assaulted and abused by her boyfriend and her boyfriend's friend. How can we as women know who to trust?
What precautions should be executed in order to ensure safety for women?

Welcoming Myself to the Practice of Blogging
Blogging will help me to lay out my thoughts on screen. That way by doing so, I get the benefit of reading my own thoughts. While in the process, I take on the task of fighting my bias and being fair with what I think up. At Bowling Green State University, this spring semester, I am taking a journalism course that requires me to practice my blogging. This practice will be such a wonderful advantage for my professional life.
I am very excited to embark on this journey with my journalism course this semester! And I am glad you, my readers, are joining me on this adventure. :)

Where I am now:HATCH Program 12/4/14
I am in the process of conducting interviews and gathering information to create a story for my journalism reporting class. The story I am framing will be about the HATCH student entrepreneurship program that my University offers on campus. So far I just have the essential information.
I know that this program is for undergraduate students to develop a business plan that has the potential to benefit the local community, and if those plans are approved by HATCH representatives those [selected] students will have the opportunity to present said plans to a panel of alumni investors and if the investors believe that the students' businesses are good investments they will essentially invest in those students' ideas to help "hatch" their plan and get their business started.
So far I have talked to a partner of this program. He is an entrepreneur and instructor for the college of Business at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, Gene Poor. Gene explained to me the importance of business and he also mentioned why undergraduate students specifically undergraduate students in business should take full advantage of the opportunities that this program offers them. Our interview helped me to develop an angle of my story.
So I know now what I will talk about in this paper. I have three more interviews set up for this assignment. I plan to utilize the interview with Poor and also the information gathered from the university's website to develop the questions I will soon be asking my other interviewees. For right now I believe I have enough information to at least write the first 200 words of my story.

Building a Weather-Ready Nation
In the past recent years, tornadoes have been occurring on fewer days but on those days there is a recorded pattern of more than one tornado. Just last year in the US homes, schools, and even lives have been destroyed due to these tornado occurrences. Are tornadoes concentrating on fewer days? Weather-scientists are trying to find out why this is.
Some of these scientist believe it may have a connection with changes in the weather and climate. For whatever so the reason may be for these occurrences, the environmental damage that these tornadoes leave behind are often times devastating and permanent. So, how can communities and individuals prepare themselves for these tornadoes and other extreme weather events?
“If my family and I had known what to do in case of a tornado, we could have had a better chance of saving our home…” victim of 2013 tornado occurrence Alyshia King said.
Individuals such as Alyshia King and her family are why the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are working towards building a “Weather-Ready Nation”.
Being a weather-ready nation would require “tools to predict and tools to respond and for individuals to use those tools to be more prepared for [extreme weather events]” Bowling Green State University’s Geography Weather and Climate instructor Susan Spencer said.
“The Weather-Ready Nation (WRN) Ambassador™ initiative is the (NOAA) effort to formally recognize NOAA partners who are improving the nation’s readiness, responsiveness, and overall resilience against extreme weather, water, and climate events.”
In other words this initiative is to build community awareness and resilience to loss of lives and homes from disasters such as tornados that are occurring more frequently on fewer days.
This WRN initiative is to help individuals “take personal responsibility and accountability to be prepared” for these types of events.
“I look at NOAA products all the time…” meteorologist Dr. Arthur Samel said. “ I think that NOAA does a great job… to the extent that they are accurate with their forecasts.”
NOAA’s weather-ready initiative is to focus on being more prepared for extreme weather conditions that may result in disaster[s]. So what is NOAA doing to accomplish this initiative?
As mentioned before this initiative recognizes efforts that different weather service and research departments do to promote weather preparedness.
For instance, NOAA researchers noticed that there hasn’t been an increase in tornadoes on the basis of a number of days, however there has been fewer tornado days but more tornadoes on those days.
Author Harold Brooks, research meteorologist with the NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory. Implicated that “concentrating tornado damage on fewer days, but increasing the total damage on those days, has implications for people who respond, such as emergency managers and insurance interests,” Brooks said.
However, “…as the risk of greater insurance losses mounts, some insurers may choose to exit certain markets rather than incur the additional costs that climate change brings” Pax World Investments stated.
For the sake of building a ‘Weather-Ready Nation’ it is essential that insurance companies adopt detailed policies that address climate change and extreme weather events so that consumers can make prudent choices about their insurance options.
This initiative promotes personal responsibility. NOAA partners host events and advertise ways to prepare for weather disasters.
NOAA’s initiative may not be successful for those individuals who only act responsively to disasters when they are occurring. Which may also be the reason as to why this initiative promotes individual accountability.
To stay updated with NOAA and the actions they are making. On the NOAA website they post news updates. You can find out about events and more by visiting their website. They also have interviews posted with some of the top weather and climate researchers.

My S/H/E story now
Right now with my story I am working on my sources. I have my documented sources as for my people sources I do not have them. I am currently awaiting my meeting with Dr. Arthur Samel. He is the chairman of the Geography department here at Bowling Green State University. I hope to utilize the knowledge he has on the weather and updates to the weather service systems.
My second people source I am trying to get in contact with is a professor Peter Kimosop. He teaches Geography Weather and Climate here at Bowling Green State University. I still have yet to also hear back from him. I am hoping to pop-in on his office hours as well.
Lastly, my third source is a resident from Bowling Green, Ohio. She was victim to a weather disaster that occurred in her hometown of Detroit, Michigan. I am going to use as a relation to why it is a good idea for the US too continue heading toward becoming a "Weather-Ready Nation".
Challenges I am currently facing is with time. My sources are very busy people as am I. And our schedules seem to conflict with one another.

Science/Health/Environment Story Idea
For this story project I decided to report a story on improving our nation's weather surveillance systems [radars]. Over the past couple winters the US was hit by unexpected weather disasters such as: tornadoes, hurricanes, and hail storms. The weather reports, repeatedly, were mistaken.
This story has value because it talks about someone trying to do something to improve the system for weather and further prevent unforeseen weather forecasts.
My audience for this story might be the residents of Ohio. Or possibly anyone who has an interest or concern for the weather and unforeseen disasters caused by the weather.
I got the idea from research I performed on Google. I was looking for 'news' 'stories' in 'science, health, or the environment'. And I came upon an article talking about improving weather surveillance systems to predict an incoming disaster at least five minutes before it occurs.
I thought it would be good to talk about this topic. Because, personally a 'heads-up' warning on a tornado heading towards Bowling Green, Ohio of which I do reside, 5-minutes or more is better than not knowing when the tornado is going to hit at all...
Plus I believe that there is always room for improvement for any and everything.
