Long + Ongoing

I will always tout @ebonyshaha's 'let me see those galaxies (version 2)' because the writing is constantly engaging, breathlessly beautiful and the story flow is always interesting. It's embarrassing how many times I have read this piece and the influence it's had on my own work.

Then there's this INCREDIBLE @tellmewhytheyswoon's 'My Funny Valentine' that is a modern University/College AU where Charlie is nonbinary and Steven is trans. This one really gets me because it's the nostalgically like the best of the best 90's romcoms. It's been on hiatus for awhile but I keep going back to it because...it's incredible. All I want for Christmas is the next chapter.

Divine Oneshots

When I tell you 'Study Break' is beautiful it's hardly an exaggeration. The style is stunning and the various emotional textures of insight into the mind of Meeks who even goes so far to get annoyed with Charlie (who's just trying his best D: ) just...borders on lyrical. This author has other DPS content I strongly suggest as well.

Dreamland Lover --Charlie personified as an aesthete and his pursuit of beauty is exemplified by the very descriptive writing. "He was lit up in gold, the light filtering through the window falling across him like a goddamn miracle. For once in his life, Charlie had no way to describe it, no striking metaphor or synonym for perfection in his mind." Like, look at that!

Painfully Sweet Fluff

Between The Bookshelves -- @weltonsworst's work, a quintessential library encounter that has Meeks being the first one to confess.

tell tale heart -- The voice of the narrator makes this real fun stand out piece. Charlie being dense and difficult, Meeks is ever so patient.

a heart whose love is innocent -- I mean that title alone. Charlie is a flirt, Meeks is besotted, they finally make it work. Champion characterisations

The Misgivings of a Mirror -- Really different take on their whole dynamic, Steven is teased for being too skinny and Charlie won't let him be sad about it. It's more an implication than anything but such a sweet read

P.S. I Love You -- packs the whole scansion of a developing relationship into a little. Perfect size for a short and sweet read.

All the Reasons Why I Love You -- Charlie has to write a poem and it's about Steven. Fair tropey, BUT it's told from Charlie's perspective and the banter he has with Steven really makes it something special.

Classics

Who isn't familiar with evol_love & @phonecallfromgod's works at this point? These writers are literal pillars of the DPS fandom with oft read, While You Were Sleeping (ok this is my only "adult" fic on here but it's HUMILIATING HOW MANY TIMES I'VE READ THIS) and More Light Than Heat respectively.

But I'd really like to call attention to an underrated one, Inter-House Unity Is For Lovers a Harry Potter AU where Meeks is in Slytherin and Charlie is the prize jewel of the Hufflepuff house.

Poetic Wax -- Post-Welton, modern AU; Charlie realises how much they have always loved Steven after his stint abroad, This is probably my favourite of all confessions between the pair. "You're gonna burn your eggs," will forever be peak romance.

Something Honest -- I love Parks and rec. I love Charlie/Meeks. So following the rules of geometry it makes sense that I love this post-Welton modern AU too. Deffo for teen audiences but the honest interactions and the references make this superb

And for fun, Maybe I'm in Love (And Maybe it's Starting to Tell) is appropriate for this time of year :p Happy Non Denominational Winter Solstice Holiday!

There are probably loads more but I will be honest and say if the format isn't easy to read (aka SPACING BETWEEN PARAGRAPHS) it doesn't matter how delicious and strong the writing is to me, I can't hook into it. Format is imperative.

“Well this is awkward.” Neil chuckled as he and Ginny walked out of the theatre.

“Awkward? You’re telling me.” Ginny scowled. “I have two days left to ask out Chris, until your friend,” she glared at Neil. “Plans to ask out Henley Hall’s only non-theatre lesbian.”

“Trust me, I don’t find having to prevent my love stricken friend getting in the way of a budding sapphic romance ‘fun’.”

“Quit joking around, Neil! This is do or die. This is endgame. These next few days will alter my future permanently, for better or for worse.”

“I see why you’re in theatre now, Danbury. You’re more dramatic than me. And that’s saying something.”

“You are a cruel friend, Perry. Cruel. Cold-hearted. Leaving your poor friend to chase the girl of her dream’s unassisted.” Ginny huffed jokingly, but she was still freaking out internally. She was always going to ask Chris out. But the impending time pressure made it a little too real.

“I’ve got to go the other way. All boys school that bears a striking resemblance to prison, remember?”

“See ya. Don’t forget to represent the Anti-Knox agenda.”

“Anti Knox for Chris.”

“Same thing!” Ginny called over her shoulder. Her life, she thought to herself, was slowly becoming a hopeless romantic rom-com, like something her mum would watch, except replace herself with another unremarkable brunet.

Whatever Knox was planning to do, she just had to top it by one.

anderperry soulmate au where u get things that ur soulmate loses

so like if neil loses a book, todd will find it, and im mostly thinking things u can touch, but ideas and thoughts might be cool too

neil is studying when a scrap of paper ends up with his notes and it’s a unfinished poem and neil loves it

he’s so excited that his soulmate is a poet

“maybe it’s just a school assignment or something”

“shut up cameron”

and he reads and rereads it over and over

until he thinks that his soulmate will probably want it back and loses it

todd finds a red sweater that looks like a hug

he feels a bit awkward about wearing it but it looks so comforting and he just puts it on

and he thinks about losing it so his soulmate gets it back, but it just feels so comfortable and safe he ends up keeping it

(neil recognizes it when todd absentmindedly wears it after he transfers to welton)

neil is always finding pens and poems, books and plays, homework assignments and notes and it makes him so happy to read the poems, except when the poems look a bit too personal then he tries not to

he usually throws them somewhere randomly to lose them 

but he keeps a few unfinished poems for himself

(the ones that are crossed out and scratched and would have ended in the trashcan anyway)

one day, todd goes back to his room at balincrest after a long day of testing and there’s just a /guy/ there

and he’s like ?????????
