Part of the portrait series I'm doing where the portrait reflects how others see the character. Here, it is through the eyes of Monmartre, various people it lived with for years back in the mining / foundry colony Shûuna. in order from left to right: Meri'kn, Tchaark, Tua, Ikinih, Uyonah
work from 2025 Program used : rebelle 7

Insectoid Dragons - Various
Wanted to draw my earwig dragons again. Did you know they come in different colors? I'm still figuring out exactly how many colors they come in, and if those colors can mix, but so far it's looking like they just come in solid colors with varying patterns. Also yes, that is a dragon rider! I'll figure out their outfits properly in a bit when I get a break from college but so far i'm attempting to mix fantasy with old aviation outfits. At least in the padded inner-suit and the more structured leather outerwear. Once I've got all that figured out then I can draw the Dragon/Harpy/Rider dynamic trio.

Maybe a hot take but I do think it's fully possible to delve so far into a need for realism in speculative biology works that every creature produced becomes boring. What I mean by this is, if you focus too much on realism when trying to make a speculative lifeform, you can end up shutting down genuinely interesting features and traits pre-emptively because they don't 'sound realistic'. Earth nature is far weirder than you'd think, we don't think of it as weird because we experience it every day.
Take humans for example, y'all can be really fucking freaky! You just don't think you are because you live the human experience every single day, but have you ever stopped to think about how weird it is that you're the only mammal to actively develop more hair around your pubic areas and your armpits during puberty? How you don't experience 'heats' or 'ruts' like other mammals because your methods of reproduction have changed to be more frequent and (comparatively) less intense? How some of you have extra teeth or joints or tendons simply because evolution never deemed it fit to remove them, even if they cause problems? You're weird! And that's cool! When you rely too much on realism, your creatures may actually become a lot less realistic. Don't limit yourself!

made a runaway to the stars character; an avian dun with anxious pterotillomania (compulsive feather picking). Their scruffy look, bare neck and notched ear evokes a punk style - especially to those avians who are only vaguely familiar with the concept - and sometimes gets mistaken as an intentional statement.
