Prompt Four
I have not yet been on my placement for this trimester, however from my previous experience i had a very positive literary experience. Children were given a wide range of opportunities to develop their reading and writing skills. Everyday students would engage with their reading buddies during literacy rotations on one activity, the next day this would be repeated, however the groups would rotate to a different activity. The activities included guided reading with the teacher, reading to other group members, sentence structure, literacy games and a reading level group. These reading groups flowed well and students were grouped according to similar abilities. Each week some alterations were made to ensure students were never doing the same thing over again.
a writing activity that the students engaged with that i taught was a creative writing activity where they had a choice to choose there own character, setting and object. The first lesson that this was taught flowed very nicely until some students had difficulty thinking about what to write with the components that they had to include. This caused some chaos within the classroom. However, this was a learning experience for me as i went home to think about how i could improve the lesson. This was where i did an example story on the board to show students their expectations and to give them some ideas of how to write the creative piece. Students then effectively completed there writing piece with confidence.

Prompt Three
sente
This was a students piece of creative writing that i took during my placement this year in a year 1/2 class. I gave each table group three dice which had a variety of different settings, characters and objects that they had to choose from to create a creative writing piece. This particular student chose:
Character: Crazy scientist
Setting: Farm
Object: Pizza
From this story, it is evident that this student needs to work towards addressing sentence fluency as the first trait. This is due to having very little punctuation which makes it difficult to read. This student would also need to address their organisation in their writing to ensure that it flows between characters, setting and the object, as it frequently jumps between them all. How to structure a piece of writing would be helpful for this child.

Prompt Two 2018
I see many of these types of posters which i believe are extremely important to have in the classroom. When i was at school, i used to get bored with using the same words and always seeked the thesaurus to assist with this. These posters would be extremely helpful for students to expand their vocabulary and to ensure that they are utilising a variety if different words, especially for descriptive writing pieces.

I have very limited memories of what what read during my primary school years. Although i do remember in years 5 or 6 listening to the teacher reading a book that i was not interested in and therefore i did not enjoy the experience. I was a very active child and therefore i had unpleasant memories sitting on the mat listening to the teacher read a book. I would often vague out. Although i do remember reading the book ‘Holes’ by Louis Sarchar in class groups which i found very enjoyable as it was something that i was interested in as i had seen the movie. I believe i preferred to have picture books read to me instead of novels. This was because i enjoyed looking at the pictures instead of painting a picture in my mind.
Today, I love books! Picture books are where effective and creative learning occurs and I thoroughly enjoy reading books to children, and implementing exciting follow on activities that i know the students will enjoy.
Prompt One 2018
ECL310
When I was in grade three I remember my teacher reading to the class Charlie and The Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. We sat in silence absorbing every word, it was fantastic!. The teacher read Roald’s next book Charlie and The Glass Elevator as well and it was also a big favourite. Years later I was lucky enough to be teaching my own grade 3 and 4′s when the Harry Potter series came out. Once again a class sat in silence absorbing very word as this time I read the novel to the grade.
For your reflection this week we would enjoy discovering your memories of being read to. Preferably this would come from your own classroom experiences, otherwise, it can be a reflection on what a parent read to you, or if that doesn’t fit, you can share what you would like to read to a class when you have the chance.
All of the ECL310 team look forward to sharing in this,
be creative, make a video, a Wordle, a sound recording, a cloze activity, anything you like!
And here is a youtube assisting us in promoting the importance of adults reading to ALL children!

Good luck!
