This is a writing sample from a student in Grade 2 about White Sharks. The 6+ 1 traits of writing this child could improve on is sentence fluency. The child has no understanding of full stops and uses ‘and’ as a connecting word too many times. This child’s sentence is too long and has too many ideas in the same sentence.

Prompt 2
The last time I made a classroom display was on my last placement. It was focusing on the long and short vowel sounds of the letter ‘a’.
I had made a brainstormed list of all the words where the ‘a’ is a long vowel. For example the words; mate, hate, fate, rate, tape, shake and in the column next to these words I had written the word with the short ‘a’ vowel sound. So; mat, hat, fat, rat, tap and shack. This was displayed in the classroom to help the students with their spelling of these type of words.
