I hate, hate, HATE the term “affordable housing.” I hate that we’ve normalized it. I hate that we just accept that the majority of housing, a basic human right, is unaffordable to much of the population. Housing should be affordable as a baseline. If rich people want to add arcades and gold-plated hot tubs on top so be it, but everyone, everyone, regardless of income level, should have access to a clean, comfortable home with enough light and space to make life worth living.

We are starving in Gaza.
There’s no flour, no food—only hunger, fear, and silence. My family sleep with empty stomachs. I wake up every day praying for a miracle: just bread, just safety, just a little kindness from the outside world.
I never imagined I’d have to beg, but today I am. Please, if you see this, don’t ignore it. If you can help us with even the smallest amount, it can mean food on our table or medicine for my loved ones.

Officially designated by the National Park City Foundation in May, Breda joins London, Adelaide and Chattanooga as the fourth member of a growing global movement to make urban areas greener, healthier and more connected to nature. Nine other cities are currently working towards it, too.
This new status recognises more than a decade of work to restore wetlands, green its streets and bring residents into the process.
What is a National Park City?
The National Park City initiative was launched in the UK in 2019 to promote nature-connected, environmentally just urban living.
Cities don’t need to meet traditional national park criteria. Instead, they must show a city-wide commitment to sustainability, biodiversity and public access to green space.
Breda’s application caught the attention of assessors with its strong environmental leadership, citizen engagement and urban planning that places nature at its core.
Its all about the people
The city has become a leader in green design, using nature-based solutions to improve liveability and manage climate risks. And residents have been active participants in that process, often greening their own streets, installing rooftop gardens and developing green schoolyards, according to Breda Stad in een Park, a grassroots movement that helped to lead the city’s efforts to become a National Park City.
“This title is a recognition for the many residents, entrepreneurs and organisations who are committed to greening Breda and an inspiration to continue doing so,” says Joost Barendrecht, chairman of Breda Stad in een Park.
“It’s an incentive to make more [people] enthusiastic about getting started with greenery. It doesn’t always have to be big. A [simple] garden is a nice contribution.”

Under what legal experts called a “historic” settlement, announced on Thursday, Hawaii officials will release a roadmap “to fully decarbonize the state’s transportation systems, taking all actions necessary to achieve zero emissions no later than 2045 for ground transportation, sea and inter-island air transportation”, Andrea Rodgers, one of the attorneys representing the plaintiffs in the case, said at a press conference with the governor.

Bystander Intervention Training
so, the US just attacked Iran, and that is fucking terrible. Something we all need to think about right now is how we can stop the harassment and violence against Muslims and Arabs in the US that got so much worse in the early 2000s from happening again to people now.
To that end, I wanted to share some resources on Bystander Intervention. One of the biggest things I learned from training like this is that there are many ways to intervene, and they don't all involve putting yourself in front of the person who may harm you or others. It's ok if you feel intimidated by that because there are more ways to help! And once you do the training, it might not be so scary.
Right to Be has Bystander trainings based on the 5Ds of Bystander Intervention (Distract, Delegate, Document, Delay, and Direct). The trainings are free!! sign up here.
I took one of their trainings a few years ago (when the org was called Hollaback!) and it was really very good, they have trainings at multiple levels and focused on various topics. They also partner with other orgs to focus on specific issues (like anti-AAPI harassment and with CAIR Chicago for anti-Muslim harassment, etc.).
Here are a few more resources:
APA Bystander Intervention Tip Sheet
RAINN Practicing Bystander Intervention
I think I'll sign up for one as a refresher.

Imagine a future where communities, schools, municipalities and studios can generate and sell their own clean energy, and creatives can partake in this new value creation.
Now, envision a world where Native and rural neighborhoods can access clean energy sources and make their own decisions about resource allocation and implementation.
Thanks to community leaders across the United States, climate equity—ensuring that all people, especially marginalized communities, are treated fairly when addressing climate change and its impacts—is within reach

about the blog
I go by Luci here
Pronouns are mostly he/him, sometimes xe/xir
18-23 years old
Western Europe (English is not my mother tongue, so please be kind)
climate justice activism
gardening, writing, crocheting
learning how to love the world
I really love reading, and I really love recommending books I like
This blog shows my perspective on solar punk, that means:
it's not just an aesthetic, but often, it's beautiful
it's about finding solutions, finding hope and the strength to resist
talking about solutions and inspiration doesn't mean that we are just daydreaming
even if it isn't hopeful or inspirational, we should always talk about and learn how this society is build to exploit, to hurt and to destroy, so that we know which parts can be reformed and which parts should be dismantled entirely
it's about solidarity and community, which aren't just fancy words, but have to be built with care and intention
we have to put in the work, and we will :)

The "Cocoon," a biodegradable cardboard donut developed by Dutch company Land Life, aids tree growth in arid regions. It's placed around a seedling in a pit, filled with 25 liters of water, and then covered to prevent evaporation. The water slowly seeps into the soil, nurturing the roots. This method boasts up to a 95% survival rate in hot, dry areas, using 1000 times less water than traditional planting, and has helped plant over 10 million trees globally.
If current tree harvesting rates continue, the world could lose a substantial portion of its forests, potentially tens of millions of hectares, over the next 20 years.
