For the Sisko&Garak talk:

Sisko and Garak in In the Pale Moonlight to me is like a bloodstained knight (garak) kneeling in front of the king (sisko) and presenting a blood soaked sword.

The king here is the one who reaches for the sword and gets blood on his hand, which makes for a "reversal" of typical images of kings knighting their knights.

= Sisko can't outright approve of Garak's actions but this is DS9 so you know he calls upon the blade that's already tasted blood. And he's fully aware of what he's doing.

I don't picture them together romantically, but you can if you want.

Yessss, exactly! I love this! You get it! He knows what Garak’s good at and he knows Garak’s morality is flexible, and he knows that despite their different values, they are aligned in their goals and their hatred of the Dominion, and there is a mutual respect there. I just love the image of Sisko letting himself be stained by the blood that Garak has dutifully spilled for him.

i'm such a big fan of laios using being well fed as proof that he's serious. like there's so many techbros & etc who will use not eating breakfast as proof that they're productive & just in general, the idea of being "too busy to eat" is getting more common (which is exactly what toshiro is doing here!) but laios is like. no. i'm so serious about this i'm thinking about what comes next. i'm so serious about this i'm making sure my body can do everything it can when i need it.

the fact that everyone in the party took care of themselves & carefully planned out their route & when they'd take breaks is what made them so successful. they always made sure to understand their limits

Garak was late to lunch that day because he was building a bomb to destroy his shop. He was eating Delavian chocolates while he made it. He saw an assassin and knew for whom the bell tolled, but he still ate his chocolates, and he still went to lunch, just a little late. Because he was making a bomb to blow himself up with.

the whole point of a zine is that it's cheap to produce, amateur and homemade. if you're being asked to apply to participate in a print project, it is not a zine. if the final product is being printed and bound professionally, it is not a zine. if you are being asked to enter into any kind of licensing agreement more complex than "my work can be reproduced as part of this publication" it is not a zine. nine times put of ten if the final product costs more than $5 you have left zine country. im so serious about this.

on the one hand. the concept of the borg queen is the result of a characteristic lack of imagination in the mind of that most lowly and despised of creatures, the star trek writer. totally ruins the whole vibe. the POINT of the borg is that they have a completely alien way of organizing their consciousness. they lack leaders because they are a collective. thing about how bad episodes like i, borg or descent or even the best of both worlds would be if there were queens. borg queens ruin the mystique and the alienness of the collective

on the other hand. i do think about seven in dark frontier sometimes 🥴
