Why Choose WordPress For Your Website?

Looking to start your own website or blog? Not sure which platform to choose to build your website?
Let us help you make the best choice – WordPress!
But why choose WordPress for your website?
We found that 27% of the entire Internet is now made of WordPress websites. This is something like 16 million websites and counting! This means WordPress is the most popular content management system (CMS) worldwide. Check out our top 10 reasons why you should choose WordPress for your website over other platforms. #1 WordPress Is Free! WordPress is free and we recommend you use WordPress.org as appose to WordPress.com. The only cost to you is going to be for a domain and hosting. See our post on getting started with WordPress. You can of course choose various plugins that come with cost but there are many that are free also. #2 Immediately Ready Out Of The Box Just install WordPress and you are pretty much ready to go. No further installs need aside from various plugins you choose as you build your website. The WordPress platform is also universal and any time your login to your website back office you can guarantee the dashboard will look the same. No need to reinvent the wheel here! #3 Relatively Easy To Learn If you choose to build your own website then there are some great places to learn WordPress and you can learn the absolute basics within a couple of hours so you can get started yourself if you have the time. The platform is easy to access and navigate so that you can add great content. Being web designers why are we telling you this? A website owner may require us to outsource the construction of their website and then want to be able to maintain it themselves afterwards. The great thing is that you can learn the basics so you can look after your website yourself as it evolves. We would suggest that you are 100% comfortable with this idea as you would not want to pay somebody to design your website to then go mess it up! WordPress allows anybody to add great content but a web developer can add more by way of design and improve things like loading speed. #4 Massive Diversity In Design There are literally thousands of WordPress themes, which you can find across the net at places such as WordPress itself, Elegant Themes and ThemeForest. You can easily create a unique looking website for your business or interest. All of the themes can be easily customised too. #5 Search Engine Friendly Did you know that Google ranks WordPress websites higher than any other platform? WordPress platforms are easy to crawl for search engines like Google and Bing. This reason alone is strong enough to help sway your decision so you get noticed online. WordPress has integrated blogging posts pages, which can be set up to add written and video content to your website which improves your ranking over time. #6 Mobile Optimisation Any target audience is going to be accessing information on the move via mobile devices like tablets and phones, so designing a website that can be viewed, navigated and loaded on such devices is crucial to your online success. The Divi theme by Elegant Themes can manage this with ease. #7 Support Communities We use a variety of support communities to exchange ideas and this it what we love about the online business world. So many people out there prepared to offer you help and advice provided you give some back and look in the right place. And for nothing! Thankfully we are living in a much more collaborative world these days. #8 Ready For SEO WordPress sites are well suited to Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and have some great plugin tools that frequently get updated to guide you with SEO over time. SEO is on-going with respect to change as search engines like Google change their algorithms all of the time and with hundreds of ranking factors. #9 Safe and Secure We have heard of many people who have had something hacked online and we are sure it is no fun. Having the right technical support via your host is important to help if this happens otherwise you may end up incurring further costs to your business. We also use additional plugins such as Wordfence to monitor the security of your site. Without the right plugins your WordPress site like any other can be vulnerable to attack. WordPress typically releases security updates and bug fixes several times a year too. #10 Manage & Eliminate Comment Spam WordPress comes with default tools to help you fight the spammers. You can also choose to control spam-using plugins such as Akismet allowing you to moderate your “comments” settings. For example, you can moderate any comments before appearing on your site, block comments with specific words in them, block comments posted from specific IP addresses, and block comments containing more than a number of specified links. #11 Different Media Types From various files to high quality video, WordPress can handle it all. If not, various plugins will increase the capability of your website. Articles and video can easily be added to any page of your website. #12 Different Media Types All WordPress websites come with fully integrated blogging pages that can be customised to your liking and updated with ease. We can show you how to do this or provide this as part of our service so you can concentrate on money generating activities of your business. WordPress was initially viewed as a blogging platform but these days the terms ‘website’ and ‘blog’ are becoming more and more merged as a result of this great platform. #13 Draft and Preview Features When producing long content you will need to constantly check the look of it especially when adding images or other media. You can also save your ‘drafts’ before final publishing live on the Internet. #14 Automatic Notifications WordPress can send automatic notifications so it notifies you via email each time there is a new comment or a comment awaiting moderation. #15 Hosting With WordPress you will not be committed to one particular hosting provider. Many hosts will transfer existing WordPress sites so if you have a problem with your current host then no worries, simply find another who can handle your site better. We use Digital Business Lounge for this site but this does come with additional marketing tools. Bluehost is another good option. #16 Many Multi-Users and Multi-Site Technology It is very likely that you will need different people to support you in managing your website. From administrators to contributors or editors your site can be set up to your liking. Multi-site technology allows you to control one or thousands of WordPress sites from one administration panel, and is currently used to power over 20 million sites on WordPress.com and global sites like CNN and the New York Times, as well individual sites in networks, organizations and universities. Multi-site technology allows each user to have full administrative rights over their own site without any security concerns. Each site can also have its own design (theme), individual functionality (using plug-ins), and manage its own users. Super administrators can implement network-wide policies and deploy security, plugin and theme updates at the click of a button from one central location. #17 No Need For Web-Coding Do you understand web coding? No? Then this is the platform for you. You do not have to use web coding such as CSS, JavaScript of HTML. WordPress has been designed so that anybody can have a website or blog, so it is a very inclusive platform. However, learning some code maybe useful if you want to become a developer or if you wish to customise your sites theme further. Are There Any Downsides To WordPress? From this article you can see there are many wonderful features in Wordpress. In a nutshell, they make WordPress almost certainly the most user friendly and inclusive platform for bloggers and business owners to build their brands. No platform is completely free of bugs and niggles, which is why regular updates need to be completed as necessary. Once your site has been built, you will have to decide whether you would like your web developer to manage your site for you or take it on yourself. Whichever you choose WordPress is the best choice by far in our opinion. Now you have learned the reasons why you should choose WordPress for your website, you may need some further help. If you are frightened or a little weary of technology then have no fear. We will show you how to overcome a phobia of technology. Many people can handle and use technology. However, technology can be overwhelming as it can change so fast. You’ve only got to look at products from the Apple stable to see this. Every year there are new iPhones, iPad's, MacBook’s and iMac’s plus numerous software updates. This can frighten the hell out of some people. Not just because of age but fear of messing something up beyond repair. This has brought us to write about a common question we get asked for clients interested in starting an online business. “We’re no good with technology, so how will we cope with running an online business?” According to Jane Martinson in The Guardian newspaper it is human nature to be weary of innovation. Some are not technophobes but just weary of how technology affects our daily lives. So, we will help reassure you if you have this same question. We have some strategies you can employ to overcome such fears. Here are our 7 strategies to overcome a phobia of technology #1. Take A Class & Learn How If there is a digital skill that you desperate to learn or that you need, then why not take a class? We believe that everyone should always be growing and developing. Never sit still and let others overtake you in this world. Online there is absolutely a tonne of video tutorials and articles with great instructions. You can find free stuff but be aware for deeper understanding or for information that continually updates you may need to get your bankcards out. #2. Play & Click Our parents are absolute technophobes. They seem petrified of just trying things out. They are afraid of trial and error. Most platforms these days are self-intuitive. Whether it is a new social media platform or system you use at work you just need to dive in and click around to see what features there are and what they do. Then keep checking as all platforms and software have updates so you constantly need to repeat the process. What could possibly happen? What could you possibly irreversibly break? #3. Become Friends With Google & YouTube Today you can type any question into a search engine like Google or YouTube (remember YouTube has its own search engine) so you can find articles or videos showing how to answer the question you have. We first bought an Apple computer 4 years ago and there were countless times when learning how to solve a problem we turned to YouTube. For example, we learned how to remove icons from the dock. Low and behold somebody had shot a video answering our query. #4. Join Facebook Groups Facebook groups and communities are full of people prepared to help anyone out. Even complete strangers. Our website platform is Wordpress. Wordpress is a great platform as it can be learnt and operated by anyone (in just a few hours). You don’t need to know coding (although you can use it if you wish). Your website then has a chosen theme which gives your website a certain appearance. We use Divi by Elegant themes. Like many other platforms and themes they all have support groups on Facebook. Consequenty, we belong to a Wordpress group and a Divi group. They have thousands of members so you often get an answer to your problem within a few hours or even minutes. #5. Self-Pep Talk “I can do this”, “I can do this”. Silence your inner chatter giving you doubts and do not give in. Just over a month ago we were having a problem with this very website. We could not figure how to resolve the issue. With persistence calm and patience we solved the problem. #6. Phone A Friend We all know somebody we can rely on to answer a tricky question with our technology. I bet you have annoyed somebody in the past by repeatedly phoning to ask for help with something. Then again, technology is simple but only if you know how. But that does make it relatively easy to learn. #7. Scream! It’s OK. Even the most confident of people with technology have problems from time to time. We ourselves cannot do everything with ease. We would say we are medium level in terms of online technological ability. The hardest thing we have done is build this very website. Luckily we came across a web-design platform called Wordpress, which comes with excellent video tutorials, which are easy to follow at your own pace. And lucky point number two, we have excellent tutorship with the Digital Business Lounge as part of our Six Figure Mentors membership. In addition to dealing with technological problems ourselves, we do of course have technical support on different platforms we use for our business. We use AWeber for emailing and keeping contact with large numbers of customers, Digital Business Lounge for marketing tools & web hosting and we have The Six Figure Mentors support for our online marketing education too. They all have technical support at your fingers tips during business hours. The Six Figure Mentors and their sister company The Digital Experts Academy also have private forums where you can connect with thousands of members and share and discuss problems you may be having with your business. And let us tell you we have been overwhelmed with how much people in this exclusive community want to give to help others out. You do not need to be or think you’ll be alone on the technological side of building your business. You can of course draw on our experiences too. Maybe we can help you from making some mistakes we have made along are journey so far. Please feel free to comment and share our content. Entrepreneur or Wantrepreneur - Which Are You? It seems everyone is chasing the glory and wants to be the next success story and calling themselves entrepreneurs. We think we have found out the two different mindsets of entrepreneur. Both call themselves entrepreneurs but they both behave quite differently. We want you to be entrepreneurs, not ‘wantrepreneurs’. What’s the difference? The Wantrepreneur According to Urban Dictionary wantrepreneurs never accomplish anything. They seem to lack any kind of focus flitting from one venture or task to another in a whim. They simply never get started. They are just people who are dumb opportunity seekers who never sharpen their focus to succeed. Then they blame anybody but themselves when they fail. If they even start in the first place. Wantrepreneurs have this terrible disease ‘someday’. Someday they’ll find the secrets to success. Someday they’ll start thinking about starting a business. Someday they’ll find the right idea and take over the world. Someday they’ll be the next Sir Richard Branson. But they never bloody well do anything about it. They just think and dream up ideas that do not come to fruition. They are wannabe entrepreneurs but have not got the faintest idea how to manage their life as one effectively. If your reading this thinking ‘actually that’s me’ then have no fear as we can help you ditch your inner wantrepreneur and help you unleash your inner entrepreneur. One small confession. We were wantrepreneurs once. We could do this, we could do that too. Then we were in inspired, invested in our education and got started. Now we have our entrepreneurial wings. Ready to ditch your inner wantrepreneur, right? What Is An Entrepreneur? It is vital to have a clear distinction. There are many different definitions and some are debatable. An entrepreneur is somebody who: Manages enterprise. Takes risks financially. Hopes for profit. To be specific it is somebody who takes initiative, makes decisions, controls their business activities but ultimately gives value to others. The by-product of this value is profit. Entrepreneurs have some key traits. #1 Passion To be successful in business you have to show ‘PASSION’! Passion will help you convince key influential people around you including family, friends, potential customers and flowers and maybe investors too. #2 Action Takers When it comes to being a true entrepreneur it is all about taking massive action and being a doer, not a dreamer. Do what you say you are going to do and do not hesitate. Make sure you do not get stuck in education mode. Get going! #3 Less Afraid Of Failure You will learn much more by taking action and making mistakes. This is how we all truly learn. No amount of reading can prepare you until you actually start. Don’t worry about #4 Make Big Sacrifices Entrepreneurs do not answer to anybody. They have incredible discipline and they have a vision. Whether that is to design their own working hours, to get freedom and flexibility or design a working life around their families, they will make huge hourly sacrifices to achieve their goals. Now to focus on what is important with your online business so you are not drifting and dreaming. We can suggest how to sharpen your focus so you can take action. We have previously written about the 3 B’s Of An Online Business. An online business when stripped down to the essentials involves, building your list, blogging and broadcasting via email and video. If you stick to these core principles then you will be much better focussed to move forward rather than getting overwhelmed with various aspects of marketing and chasing the next shiny object. If you want to get the kind of education to cross the bridge to true a true entrepreneurial mindset then just click the banner below.

Getting A Digital Business Education Learning something new can be so exciting, especially when you know the end product could give you so much back at the end. When we decided to start our digital business education we had a massive buzz. A massive feeling of ‘oh my god we’re really doing this”! A massive feeling and realisation that we had taken the plunge to build a business like we had always wanted. Probably the single most important thing we have realised about our education is that things change ever so quickly in the online business world and everyone needs somebody to be on the ball for them so you can keep making progress. Whether you are a newbie or small business owner looking to develop your own business, we can show you what you can expect from the right kind of online business education. Check out this great video by Andrew Johnston talking on TEDx Talks. Andrew talks about how the right attitude is a necessary ingredient with whatever education you get. Watch the video and learn how to go the distance. So what are the benefits of a digital business education? #1 Being In Control This first one may seem obvious but hugely important. You want to be in control as you may have day jobs, young children or an existing business already. Or possibly all of those! Consequently, you want to determine your own schedule so you can make progress at your own pace. There is no point investing time and money in something you cannot keep pace with. It has to be right for you in this respect. #2 Step By Step Video Training In addition to being in control, you may want to go back and review your learning more than once. Most online training will be via videos (some live, some recorded), which means you can pause or re-watch as necessary. One of the great things we love about The Six Figure Mentors education system is that there is a massive selection of topics to learn about so not only can you learn at your own pace you can also choose what to learn treating the system like an education buffet. If you miss live videos then you can always watch the recordings when it is more convenient. #3 Networking Most online education platforms have community forums. They can be integrated within the system itself as a private community for you to mastermind. You often get various break away groups on social media too, which members form in further areas of expertise. By joining such groups you will form relationships and you will learn who the ‘go to’ people are. The best thing about private communities is that you don’t get spammers promoting their rubbish to you either. Like-minded people who are prepared to share their very best advice will surround you. You will therefore never feel alone, as can be the case when working from home. #4 Variety Although the primary medium for online education is video you can also expect to use worksheets, podcasts and reading material too. Every type of learner should be catered for. A good digital business education should be inclusive and easy for the average person to navigate, follow and learn from. #5 Sharing People are searching the Internet everyday in their millions trying to find the answers to their problems. Online marketing is all about finding those people and offering them a solution. Your education can help get people their answer quickly. This means you are providing value by passing on what you have learned. That itself creates a business opportunity with huge potential. #6 Live Training With video learning there is nothing like live training. Live video training is so good as you can submit questions and in our experience many people are wary of asking questions in fear of feeling silly. This means your questions always get answered. Even on training calls of over 200 members we have seen just 4-5 questions in a session over 1 hour. But of course, the only silly question is the one not asked. And anyhow how can you possibly feel silly when there is nobody actually there in the room with you to laugh at you or for you to see their reaction? #7 Guidance A good quality digital business education should have many industry leaders sharing their experiences and successes with you so you have plenty of 'take-aways' to test in your own business. If you are just on a training call with just other students the experience will be incredibly limited. We have also been on calls where students of the programme have been hot-seated and given one to one advice in front of the audience. #8 Mixture of Coaching Having industry leaders share information with you is one thing but having access to many of them is great as they can offer different points of view. We have learned that you can never copy one idea from one other person. Marketing just doesn’t work that way. The same idea, ad or content from someone else is guaranteed to work for you. You have to get as many ideas as you can and test them with your own authenticity. #9 Live Events The Six Figure Mentors have live events several times a year so you get to meet other student members. You get to network with others and mastermind business ideas. At events like these who knows what people or opportunities you may come across. Our mentor Stuart Ross met his business partner Jay Kubassek at a live business event and now they have developed to massive online companies together plus many associated tools and products for the online business world. #10 Up To Date Support From Experts Things move fast in the business world. So fast in fact that you’d miss them and end up making crucial mistakes with your own business efforts. With a good education system your learning is continuous so you are always ready to evolve as a result of others. Whatever your profession of passion you should never stop learning. The Six Figure Mentors digital business education system has all of the features above and much more such as the use of great marketing tools platforms like Digital Business Lounge. This means that everything you need is in just one or two places. Why not subscribe to get our FREE video series to show you how we got started plus regular updates from this blog. Please feel free to comment and share our content. http://edandjodyelmy.com/2016/05/16/top-10-benefits-digital-business-education/

Running an online business is not hugely demanding. Getting set up and learning how to market is the hardest part but a little grit and determination supported by the right mentor will help. We are here to help why not get in touch? It is so easy (we are certainly guilty of this) to procrastinate, get frustrated, be indecisive or dam right stuck. It is also easy to be distracted online especially with social media BEWARE OF SHINY OBJECTS! So what does running an online business involve? There are 3 main components to running an online business, which are often, referred to as the B's of running an online business. Building Your List. Blogging. Broadcasting. There are other tasks too but when you are starting out these are the 3 areas you should spend the vast majority of your time. We can help you focus in these areas so you get up and running as soon as possible. You should always work at your own pace of course – but with FOCUS is vitally important to your progress. To fulfil these tasks will take you approximately 1-2 hours most days but less if you are well organised and efficient. 1. Building Your List Without customers you simply do not have a business. Number one priority is to get your first customer. Once you have found a strategy that does this then you simply rinse and repeat to build you list of customers. This list can be endless as you build up subscribers to your offers. Advertising your offers will help draw customers to sign up to your list and the internet allows you to tap into masses of people searching the internet (traffic) for solutions to their problems. Advertising platforms such as Facebook and Google allow you to intercept this traffic using sophisticated analytics to target your audience and identify what works. To build your list successfully you need to identify what type of people you want to target. We have always been advised that you should target like-minded people to yourself. Consequently, we target other public sector workers like ourselves, people who want to start up a business for the first time or those who want an additional business as an extra income stream. 2. Blogging A blog and a website are strictly speaking the same thing although many people consider a blog to be a major component of any website. Blogging is an informative way of providing value and information to your subscribers and fans. There is a tonne of information on the Internet from places like Digital Marketer and of course YouTube where you can learn writing styles on blogging to generate traffic to your blog form Internet searches. In truth, you'll need to 50-100 blogs with good quality content of 800 words or so before you pick up traffic. So it takes time to build up over several months before it can produce you some FREE TRAFFIC. So what do you blog or write about? There are no rights or wrongs with blogging. You will need to educate, inspire and provide value about your niche in which you work. In addition you should also tell your readers about you. This will develop trust with your readers and this makes promoting offers easier. Not everyone is at ease with showing your personal side at first and we weren't either. When writing your blog you will also develop your own writing style but don't be afraid to be yourself, show your sense of humour or even be controversial. Your blog should also have relevant visual attraction such as goo d quality images either taken yourself or somewhere like Pixabay. You must not just use Google Images as many images here have copyright protection and we have heard that some solicitors in the USA scan for images on websites from Google looking to develop a lawsuit. The Internet is currently going through the video age and huge chunks of Internet traffic is looking for video content, so this should also be a major part of your blog. Video of you or anything relevant from YouTube can be included. Absolutely any clip from YouTube can be inserted into your own blog. 3. Broadcasting Broadcasting is basically email marketing. We use an excellent email-marketing programme called AWeber, which compiles email addresses and allows us to keep in touch with our subscribers. It does not contain any more information than that. Some products particularly in the ‘online learning industry are products that people won't necessarily buy straight away. They need time to consider what they are buying. Education products are often higher in value but can be well worth the investment for the buyer. Broadcasting is a nice way of keeping in touch with your customers to remind you are there with your offer and to help or answer any of their questions. As with blogging, video is a format which readers are increasingly receptive. We ourselves have been very slow to get in front of the camera, a regret we have but keep putting off! The Six Figure Mentors have a community forum, which helps with such hurdles. A place where you can post or try out videos and get other members to comment and give you feedback. The is strong evidence that most people need to be exposed to something 7 times to become more receptive to a sale, so you can see the main benefit of broadcasting. This is a very simple run-down of running an online business and we are here to help you. In addition, help is at hand with the Six Figure Mentors, which is an excellent learning platform where you can learn how to build a business of YOUR OWN at a pace that suits you. http://edandjodyelmy.com/2015/08/07/find-out-the-3-bs-of-an-online-business/

What is attraction marketing? Why is it so important in the crowded world of online business? When we started our business one of the first and new concepts we learned about was attraction marketing. A Simple Definition Attraction marketing is a set of strategies used by entrepreneurs providing self-employment business opportunities, such as web- or home-based sales, to other entrepreneurs. Branding is the art and science of creating a recognised and singular image for a company or group of products. Why do some online businesses fail? You may have heard this same all story before? Spent loads of money on a beautiful website, put in the work and hours, get loads of traffic but no sales! A lack of personal branding is most likely to be the reason for failing. People see your website and your promises but they don’t see the person. People will want to know who you are and they want to hear or read you telling them what problems you can help them solve. Otherwise they begin to look elsewhere. You want to make sure that your followers are the right people. Cynics will probably never buy but sceptics might when given time. This is why personal branding and humanisation of your personal website will become very important (we’ll discuss this later). You Are Your USP USP stands for Unique Selling Point and every business needs one to succeed. People are attracted to people and some people will be attracted to us and some will be attracted to you. This is the trick, you provide value and express your personality and people will learn about you and what you can offer. It is important to realise this, as there are flocks of marketers online all doing the same thing. They have the same strategies, same websites, same languages, same sales techniques and so on. You need to find and express your true talents and show what makes YOU special. Many people use the Internet to answers questions to problems and will also be prepared to buy. But only from someone they know and trust. Attraction marketing allows customers to get to know you and trust you before they make any commitment to buy from you. This strategy is not designed to trick people. For long-term sustainability you want customers to keep coming. Once you have had some success someone may give you a testimonial and then others may become receptive to your message more quickly. Why is your about page important on your personal website? Why do you need this in the first place? Allow your clients to get to know you. Your about page is the place where many of our customers on our email list go first. They are bound to be curious. Who are these two? What are they doing? Do they have a personal life? Are they real people? How can they help me? How are they like me? These are some of the questions people consider when they start to follow and take in peoples content. You will need to tell them your story. They can then relate to you and will to automatically think of you when thinking of a product they are interested in. People are bound to be wary or even sceptical about your motives and what you can offer to help them. Your about page on your personal website could be your first point of personal contact. Your page and your personality with your message and story will spark curiosity and result in further investigation and possibly a sale. Your personal website will help you establish credibility and whets their appetite. They may reach out and get in contact, as they’ll want to know a real person exists. Your Website Your Brand To have your own domain only costs a few dollars. To host it only costs a few more per month. A paid site will always be better than a free one primarily because of the domain, which you can have. If you go for a free site then you could get: www.mysite.someoneelsessite.com With a little money you will have: www.mysite.com The first does not really look professional and to some may look fake and suspicious. So we have www.edandjodyelmy.com Sub-domains simply do not present well full stop! Think of all the websites you have visited. We bet the preferred sites are presented well. Marketing is such as huge topic and never ending in terms of the learning. You simply cannot stand still in any form of business. To be successful you’ll need the right education to one step ahead of the masses. Please feel free to reach out to us via our contact page, comment on this blog or share our content.
