Midnight Thoughts
"Paano niya nagawa yon? Bakit?"

Hope Because Humanity Is Within Us
“Being human is given. But keeping our humanity is a choice.” – Ida Protuger
This quote simply showsor tells us that humanity is a choice.Meaning wenare human ourselves but living here in this world, humanity is hard to keep for some of us.
When we get asked, what is humanity? Answering this question is just as easy as a pie. Humanity is the good qualities a human could have. Humanity is our ability to have compassion, care, empathy and love others. Humanity is helping other wherever and whenever, it is being selfless. If humanity is a person, the best example is Mother Teresa. But, the real question is, is there any hope for humanity when some of the human beings keeps on ruining humanity in our world? Our deepest humanity, however, is rooted within the fragility of all of our lives. Unless we work together we are going to be unable to save lots of the earth. If we cannot see that our vulnerabilities, and not our masks of perfection are what bind us to one another, we are going to be left wondering what's wrong with us.
There is such a common scene in human history when the media community says that men have lost their trust in humanity. That's because most people these days are starting to be cruel to themselves and others. They hurt themselves and the people around them. A common problem was the many facts that made this "virus" bigger and affected the whole world. When we talk about humanity, we should think of it only about human life, not because humanity is about humanity, including all humanity on earth. It is also a terminology of the qualities that make us human. For example, the ability to love, be considerate, be creative, and not be a robot or an alien.
We have to keep humanity within us. Why? Because that is our only key to prevent chaos in our modern world. Without a little bit of humanity do you think we can live, sleep peacefully and have friends around us? No. I listed some acts that show humanity from the website Good Housekeeping . ( https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.goodhousekeeping.com/life/inspirational-stories/news/gmp5124/random-acts-of-kindness/)
1. Florence Rescue Force - After Hurricane Florence caused devastating flooding in North Carolina this fall, kindhearted citizens like Amber Hersel jumped into action. The volunteer from the Civilian Crisis Response Team helped rescue 7-year-old Keiyana Cromartie and her family from their flooded home on September 14, 2018 in James City.
2. Donor Network - The decision made by Patricia Almonte (right) to donate the organs of her late 3-year-old daughter Veronica Garcia helped save three lives: Essence Walls (left), an 8-month-old baby, received her heart; a 2-year-old received her liver; and a 68-year-old woman received her kidneys.
3. Canine Heroes - A lucky dog got a ride from some unnamed helpers in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew two years ago. Photographer Sean Rayford caught these two men pushing a makeshift boat through the floodwaters in Lumberton, North Carolina.
4. Earthquake Heroes - Frida the rescue dog and her trainer Israel Arauz Salinas went viral for their life-saving efforts during the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that shook Mexico City in 2017. The 9-year-old Labrador has detected the bodies of 52 people during her career, and the duo recently received their own statue for their service to the Mexican navy.
5. Helping Hand - American Abbey D'Agostino and New Zealander Nikki Hamblin won a special Olympic commendation for their sportsmanship at the 2016 Rio Games. After Hamblin tripped in a 5,000-meter heat, and brought D'Agostino down with her, the American helped her competitor to her feet. Later on in the race, D'Agostino fell again as a result of her twisted leg, but Hamblin stayed by her side until the finish line.
6. Moments after posing for a fun photograph at a local beauty spot, brave teenager Cheng Changjiang was dead. Despite being unable to swim, Cheng, 18, waded into the lake to save the lives of three young children who had got into trouble in the water. But the brave act cost the teenager – branded a ‘hero’ by onlookers – his life. Cheng was enjoying the public holiday at the rural spot in Xinyang, at Henan province in central China, when tragedy struck.

7. ryclectic’ wrote: “My Buddy Witnessed an Act of Utter Kindness Today…While he was standing on the corner waiting for the crosswalk he saw this woman buy two meals at a street vender and go sit down beside this man and give him one of the meals. She proceeded to introduce herself and talk to him about his life and just shot the [breeze] with him. She wasn’t acting superior, she was his equal, she just wanted to talk to and express inclusion to a fellow human being.”

8. This is a picture of a chap called Tully holding a 46 year old, wheelchair bound man with severe mental handicaps. Tully picked him up so he could go on the hay ride with everyone else. 5 minutes into the ride the man got so excited that he peed all over himself and Tully. Tully sat there soaked in pee for the remainder of the 40 minute hay ride. As soon as it was over he changed the mans clothes before his own. If that doesn’t show character we don’t know what does.

9. I will not let you go. This woman spent 3 hours holding the horse’s head above the tide after it got stuck in the mud on a beach in Australia. The horse was later rescued, unharmed.

10. Strangers Leave her Money While She Gently Sleeps. “alexthegreat90″ wrote: “I took this picture this morning. Ever been somewhere and seen something that amazed you? I’m at the east side McDonald’s and this lady was sitting in front of me sleeping. She has everything she owns in a small backpack. Curled up with her blanket she sleeps not knowing what is going on around her. While she is sleeping everyone is getting their money out and putting it on the table so it’s there when she wakes up.”

These are only few of the acts that restored humanity. These acts showed us that no matter how cruel the world is. There are still people out there who shows kindness and selfless love without any hesitation despite any situation. So what are those things that could destroy our humanity? Stephen Hawking who is known for his work on black holes and gravitational singularities thinks that there are three things that ruin our humanity, but I will only cite two. He have this outspoken ideas about human civilization. Hawking suffers from a nerve cell disease just like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, which left him paralyzed and unable to talk without a voice synthesizer. But that hasn't stopped the University of Cambridge professor from making proclamations about the wide selection of dangers humanity faces -- including ourselves. He is part of a small group who voiced out their concerns about artificial intelligence.
First, according to Stephen Hawking, “The development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race," "The human failing I would most like to correct is aggression. It may have had survival advantage in caveman days, to get more food, territory or partner with whom to reproduce, but now it threatens to destroy us all," The Independent reported. I believe that Hawking here is telling us that AI could destroy us just like in the movie entitled Wall-e, we could see there that the AI are already controlling every move of the humans in the ship. They are dependent to the robot around them and don’t seem to care to anyone. There would be no care, love and empathy left.
Second, if AI won’t kill us, our own self might kill us. For example, a major nuclear war would likely end civilization, and could wipe out the human race, Hawking added. When asked which human quality he would most like to chose, he chose empathy , because "it brings us together in a peaceful, loving state.” Chaos would be everywhere without humanity.
In the current time, we ask ourselves sometimes, where is humanity? There are certain issues in our modern world that made us question ourselves. Despite those, we should look at the brighter side. There are still good people who we have mentioned above.
This year, our humanity is being tested. During this pandemic time we should remember our humanity. On the occasion of taking care of the elderly, and those who are sick and needy. This is what's happening in countless hospitals, clinics and medical aid units round the world, where truth heroes of this ordeal – the doctors, nurses and physicians – are risking their lives to avoid wasting others. This deeper humanity must spread to each street, every neighbourhood, every city and each country if we are to defeat the virus with our science and technology but also showing wisdom, compassion and humanity.
In the event that food and fun are what we were destined to be, there is one thing we should remember. Indeed, even creatures can do such exercises. In the event that God made us human, there must be an explanation behind it. No one but people can comprehend the importance of mankind, and it is humankind because of insight that truly gives the center substance to human presence. You needn't bother with a solid financial balance to add to helpful exercises. Paying your family help reasonably is humankind as well. You're prepared to pay a large number of dollars for your clinical test, yet with regards to paying your collaborator; You need to spare each penny. Compassionate exercises ought to never be embraced to pick up distinction or get a superficial point of interest. You can without much of a stretch accomplish popularity through the work you do. Lifting the weighty sack of an elderly person is humankind, helping an incapacitated individual to go across the road is mankind, helping your mom at work is humankind; truth be told, it is humankind to help whoever needs it. How would we express or show mankind? One approach to show our mankind helping poor people and the individuals who crippled. Additionally utilizing indicating counterfeit mankind to pick up distinction ought to never be one your choice. Did you experience finding a major measure of cash and when you return it, there's the incredible inclination that we can't clarify? Since on the event of indicating our humankind to other people, we have that believing that we can not get.
Humanity is significant in our daily lives. It teaches us to understand the problem and gives us ideas. It helps us understand others. Humanities students specialize in writing and critical reading. Humanity encourages us to think creatively. They teach us to explain why we are human and to ask questions about our world. Humanity produces informed and critical citizens. Democracy cannot flourish without humanity. We all need to assist one another. We humans are like that. We need to live by each other’s bliss – not by each other’s hopelessness. We don’t need to despise and loathe one another. Because that's not what humanity is.
Some may say, we are losing our humanity. No, we are not losing it. We could see it everywhere. It is within us. Humanity is lively and the light is sparkling profoundly within the hearts and souls of numerous individuals from all works of life. They are of all races, societies, social status and religions. It is individuals who see their commitments to the world as their employments and they continuously inquire what can l do to contribute to distant better;a much better; a higher;a stronger; an improved" a stronger world. It’s just that, humanity is covered by our selfishness, our hatred, all negative traits that prevents us from helping and doing good for someone. Never lose hope for we still have humanity stored in us.

It's More Fun In The Philippines
Where do you want to spend your vacation? Or what are the wonderful places to visit? During a holiday or end of the school year, do you usually get asked by one of these questions? Maybe, some would answer Bali, Japan, South Korea, Europe, but only a few will say Philippines. Many of us dreamt about going outside the country, yet have we asked ourselves first if we already saw those beautiful and surreal places in our country?
The Philippines is a nation situated in Asian landmass in the western Pacific. It is a free republic that involves over 7, 000 islands. Throughout the long term, the nation has stayed a protected and appealing vacationer location. The nation has been getting various guests both from the inside and global travelers. The Philippines has a dominant part of vacation spots going from characteristic marvels, amusement, authentic milestones, expressions, diversion, culture, and conventions just to make reference to a couple.
The Philippines is likewise home to widely acclaimed regular miracles like an underground stream and rice porches, amazing jumping spots wealthy in biodiversity, vivid public transportation, exceptional cooking from appetizing to sweet, energetic celebrations that exhibit its beautiful culture, and neighborly local people viewed as probably the most joyful on the planet. You see, we define our country as a beautiful place filled with smiling people. Before we get down to the top places in the country, I shall give you a few reasons why I recommend Philippines as your vacation destination.
First, Philippines is a tropical country, which means we only have two seasons: dry and rainy season. So if you want some “sunkissed” photos in a beach, our country is the best place for you visit especially if you love beaches. The dry season covers November to May while the stormy season is normally from June until October. During the stormy months, it's as yet radiant and warm so visits in the Philippines are as yet progressing and are just vital when there's a hurricane.
Second,if you only have low budget then, worry no more. There are destinations that are budget friendly. Travel expenses in Philippines are affordable such as day tours that only cost PHP1000 or 20 in US dollars. You will find that there's a great deal of convenience alternatives for you in the Philippines also: from lodgings to modest overnight boardinghouse, convenience that are both ideal for explorers. Food in the Philippines is modest as well. For generally around PHP100-150(USD2-3), you will get yourself a respectable breakfast place that offers exemplary Filipino food with espresso. The equivalent goes for your lunch and dinner.
Third, Filipinos are friendly and very accommodating. Aside from the picture worthy destination, you have us, our hospitality and warmth is one of the reason to visit Philippines. The moment your plane lands here, you are greeted by the genuine and bright smile of the my fellow Pinoys. Also we love and we’re proud of of the beauty of our culture. If you worry about how you can communicate with us, I must tell you that communication is never a problem for tourist like you.Filipinos are bilingual, some are even multilingual. We understand and speak English making it convenient for foreign visitors to come here. You don’t have to worry about getting lost here because you can ask questions on your way, Filipinos are always ready to guide you. Filipinos are entirely accommodating as well. They have solid family ties as a feature of their way of life. On the off chance that you have Filipino companions who welcome you to their home, they will deal with you like you're an aspect of their family and may even serve you a gala of home-prepared Filipino food. The people alone will make you feel that Philippines is your home.
Fourth, we have a unique transportation. When you get here, maybe you’ll wonder and ask, what are these colorful vehicles an how do Filipinos call it? Those are jeepneys which is the main public transportation of our country. Travelers especially foreign one says that it is a must do to ride a jeepney. The fare is also cheap. By riding this vehicle we can see the helpful trait of Filipinos because we help pass the payment one person to another to the driver. Another interesting mode of transportation is the Philippines’ version of a rickshaw, also known as the tricycle or trike. This is almost comparable to Thailand’s tuktuk, only it is a motorbike with a sidecar attached to it.
Fifth, as perhaps the most joyful individual on the planet, Filipinos realize how to toss the best gatherings, be it in the city or in the unblemished white sand sea shores and islands. It's modest and is viewed by unfamiliar explorers as truly outstanding on the planet. Another acclaimed party movement in the Philippines is karaoke where you belt out your main tunes whether in the city or in a private room.
Sixth and maybe the last reason, the tourist spots in the Philippines. We are not just visiting the country because of the party, the vehicle and all of the reasonon mentioned above. In this section, we take a glimpse of the paradise like destinations. Many spots stand out from other destinations in our country. Here we come
1. Siargao made its first claim to fame as the Philippines’ surfing capital, and recently as the “Best Island in the World” (awarded by Condé Nast readers for 2018). The charming tidal ponds of Sohoton Cove, a characteristic marvel that is definitely justified even despite the 2-hour diversion from the Cloud 9 riding sea shore. The primary island is loaded up with unblemished normal spots also, including white sand sea shores, dazzling islets, huge coconut woods, cool lagoons and more.
In the event that you need to appreciate a laidback island way of life, Siargao is perhaps the best spot that sightseers can go to. You'll discover a blend of "unfamiliar" and "nearby" here. It is far off yet open, and not very swarmed regardless of the happening to new improvements lately. Located along the eastern coast of the Philippines (facing the Pacific Ocean), Siargao is best reached by air. Fly direct to Sayak Airport (IAO) in Siargao Island from Manila, Cebu, or Clark. Flight duration is 2 hours from Manila or 1 hour from Cebu. From the airport, the land trip to Cloud 9 beach, the main tourist area, takes around 45 minutes. You can also reach Siargao by taking a flight to Surigao Airport (SUG), found in mainland Mindanao. Then, hop on a 1.5-hour fastcraft ferry to Dapa Port in Siargao Island.
2. Boracay is a vacationer’s paradise. When talking about beaches and white sand, boracay is well known. Taking center stage is 4-kilometer White Beach, prized for its incredibly inviting blue waters, fine white sand, and perfect sunsets. This island is the place to go if you want to take it easy and you’re looking forward to enjoying a tropical resort experience. As you can expect, Boracay caters to a more upscale crowd, but don’t fret, there are many budget-friendly options available. Boracay is small yet we have variety of souvenir shops, places to stay, parties, and some water activities. Boracay’s white sand has it’s beauty of it’s own.
3. Batanes is the northernmost province of the Philippines. These remote islands are shaped by volcanic forces and strong typhoons. The natural landscape of Batanes is distinct from other parts of the Philippines. Here, you’ll find vibrant green rolling hills, grazing cows, steep seaside cliffs, sparkling clear blue waters, traditional stone houses, and iconic lighthouses. Batanes is home to the Ivatans who are much admired as the “True Insulares”. Ivatan Tribe is the first settler in this province. They came from Formosa which is known as Taiwan today. They have kept the purity of their culture and traditions through the years.
4. The Chocolate Hills of Bohol are one of the most iconic locations and natural phenomenons in the Philippines. The geological formation of the chocolate hills will leave you in awe, even more so at sunrise or sunset! With over 1,260 hills rolling into the horizon, they are covered with lush greens except during the dry season where the grass turns brown and gives the hills their name. This has to be one of the most unique landscapes in the Philippines and maybe even the world! There are many things to do there, trekking, searching for the tarsier, and visiting the hinagdanan caves.
Those are only four out of many tourist spots in the Philippines. By coming here in the Philippines, you could discover and visit more destinations, experience the hospitality of the Filipino. These places can be special because it will surely give you wonderful experience and your stay in every island is memorable for sure. What are those places that makes you come back over and over again? For those who haven’t gone here, would you even miss the chance to see the beauty of our country? If no then piliin mo ang Pilipinas because it's more fun in the Philippines!

Our Real Life Hermione
Are you a fan of Harry Potter? Well if you are, then I think you already know who Emma Watson is. Her real name is Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson. She was born on April 15,1990 in Paris, France. She was named after her paternal grandmother. Before she became a widely known actress, she faced reality, a bitter one when her parent who are both lawyers Jacqueline and Chris Watson, got separated. Emma lived with her mother and younger brother, Alex.
She began studying in a renowned British school located in Oxford, England. She grew up being a typical smart girl who loves to go debating. She also plays rounders, hockey and tennis.Ever since she was a child, she possess the skill of acting. When she was little she showed her skills when she took the lead role for many school plays.Emma won the 1st prize in the Daisy Pratt Poetry Competition and that’s where she was pushed by her teachers and friends to compete with others who auditioned for the role of Hermione Granger in the “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone” in 2001.After competing with other girls who has more experience than her, she won the role.
When she first played as Hermione Granger in the first movie, she impressed everyone with her ability to act at a very young age considering she doesn’t have much experience. Her role, Hermione is a smart, bossy, and always logical kind of student which is why maybe Emma can easily portray her. Emma’s natural assertiveness grew with her character in the movie. She appeared in in all of the seven Harry Potter movies in 2001 to 2011. During that years, she won many awards. In 2007, she won National Movie Award, several Otto awards and by 2010 she was named as Hollywood’s highest-paid female stars. (earning £19 million in 2009) The remaining two books, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was filmed in 2008 and 2010. This film was one of her successful series in Watson’s film history. After the series she starred to other films and took new roles in films such as The Perks of Being a Wallflower in 2012 and the Bling Ring in 2013. She also featured in an apocalyptic comedy This is the End in 2013.She also starred as Belle in the movie Beauty and the Beast in 2017.
She also worked as a model. She is an advisor of the fair trade fashion brand, People Tree. She promoted vegan and fashion that don’t damage the environment. And then in July 2014, she became the UN women Goodwill Ambassador. She sought to involve men in the campaign for equal rights between both genders. She wants to change the idea of feminism, it is to include men in the process of greater equality.
“ We want to end gender inequality — and to do this we need everyone to be involved. This is the first campaign of its kind at the UN: we want to try and galvanize as many men and boys as possible to be advocates for change.”
She was praised for her speech but on the other hand, she received a lot of anonymous death threats. But she is more determined to do her work despite of receiving such hates. Watson’s beliefs stemmed from her own experiences of growing up. In particular, her disapproval of the media’s attempt to sexualise her life, at aged only 14.She’s an inspiration for me not because she is one of my favourite character in the Harry Potter series but because of her beliefs. She stand strong for what she believes but respects other people ideologies at the same time. Her courage to stand up of her convictions regardless of other’s opinions is what I want to possess in my life.

Purya Buyag
Cebuano expressions are everywhere and I'm telling you, you uttered almost half of it since you are a child. Some expressions came from a myth or so and some of it are just merely millenial things. One of them is, "purya buyag!".We often hear this from our bisaya parents. When a stranger praises the baby or a child, for example "Kagwapa gud sa imong baby oy." (Your baby is so beautiful) to which our parent replies "Purya buyag!".I surely can't count how many time i have heard it since I was born.I also remember hearing this almost everyday when my two nephews were born. The term buyag came from the spanish word "Fuera" that means away.It is really hard to say where the word or the expression originated.
Before the Spanish colonization, according to an article Visayans were badass.Back then, rituals and belief systems were there to guide lives of the Visayan people.Celestial bodies are some of the things we respect.Visayans believe that there is an unseen world full of creatures that we can't see.Such as engkantos, dwendes and diwatas or gods namely Malitong Yawa, Dalikmata, Makabosog and we also have Bathala and many more to mention that we almost forgot. One creature we believe in is the evil spirit that we are driving away when saying purya buyag. So the question is how do we use the word purya buyag?Usually said when someone sees an infant or child who looks cute.Used when a baby is being admired by another person."Kacute gud sa baby" (The baby is so cute) "Pila ka months?Gwapaha gud. " (How many months old is this baby? She is so beautiful.),these are one of the compliments the babies receive from relatives or even random people.Rose took her kid to the shopping center to get her something new to wear, abruptly the salesgirl spouts over her kid by saying:
Salesgirl: Wow...pagka-adorable na man lang bataa. (Gracious, what a charming kid.)
Rose: Buyag. (Underhanded spirits remain away)
This is where the purya buyag expression enters the conversation. It is said to prevent the evil spirit to take away the blessings. This expression is not only applied to babies, but to adults also. The expression is sometimes paired with another expression "Tabi apo".This is to show a sign of respect to the elementals or reatures we do not see.The term purya buyag is also used to announce your presence and for them to step aside and for you to avoid on stepping, hurting most importantly offending them.As the population developed alongside colonization, urbanization and modernisation, this profound feeling of regard is as yet reflected in our inactive conviction that specific spaces in nature are houses and domains of inconspicuous spirits. It likewise implies how we Filipinos see ourselves as basic co-occupants of a spot, along with the climate and otherworldly animals.
The term purya buyag has two different uses but on the ocassion of not saying it after a compliment or doing something in unfamiliar place, there is only one effect.Something bad happens the moment we don't reply from the admiration. Buyag is another type of odd notion that comes from animistic or customary convictions among Cebuanos as well as to most Filipinos. It is their method of understanding regular events, particularly on someone for which they don't completely comprehend what the primary driver are of the clinical/logical clarification o.f such an event. One sign or impact of a 'buyag' is a physical disease on somebody who is distressed by it. One of the principle purposes behind 'buyag' to happen is that the individual distressed didn't ask the consent from the soul living in a specific spot where the individual accomplished something. Another explanation is that the individual tormented accomplished something upsetting in a spot which is segregated or captivated – where a few spirits live in that domain.A few outcomes brought about by buyag could be both mellow or serious like gentle cases: skin rashes, odd staining, irritation, abrupt event of bubbles, and so on.Genuine cases: getting fever or wiped out unexpectedly; or, one could become ill for quite a while and that she needs a fix from somebody who is master in heading out that affliction or pacify the soul that caused that infection – an 'arbularyo'. This individual is thougth to have some exceptional aptitudes to recuperate by utilizing indigenous medication joined with his apparently additional capacity to speak with spirits in another domain. 'Buyag' can torment both small kids, children, and grown-ups.As a matter of fact buyag can emerge out of the spirits who live in some particular spots, or it tends to be brought about by somebody who said something to somebody. The remark or welcome could be the welcome inducer of an illness.
I imagined that this circumstance is novel in the Philippines, nonetheless, one of my understudies disclosed to me a comparative practice in Thailand. As per her, to keep malicious spirits from hurting a youngster or an infant, the Thais state to the kid: You are so terrible, I need to take you home and deal with you. (saying this in a spouting way while holding the cheeks of the newborn child or infant and kissing him abundantly.).Also through my research I discovered that the english term for purya buyag is thank you. It's that simple.Because americans don't have such belief in unseen creatures. There are two-word additions which start with the Spanish word "Puera." These are articulations that are spoken by the Ilonggos to drive away abhorrent spirits or to forestall detestable things to transpire when welcomed by outsiders or others. The most much of the time articulated is "Puera buyag!".Other "puera" articulations may mean uniquely in contrast to "buyag", yet, the idea of heading out troublesome happening is the equivalent. For example, when the Ilonggos state "Puera aswang!", this implies they ought not be beguiled. Another is "Puera lumay!", alluding to an admirer whom a lady loathes. It is articulated so the lady may not likely be bewildered to succumb to the admirer. At the point when Ilonggos don't needthat a similar shocking or tragic occasion be occurred for on them, they state "Puera gaba!" or "Puera sulay!".In fact, there is a song that is titled after the expression, purya buyag.
Their are so many cebuano expression and some of us, purya buyag is our favorite. It's not just and expression but it's also connected to our culture as Filipinos. We have so many superstitions that the incoming generation may forget. It's really nice to look back on our expressions' origins.May I say, hitsuraan kaayo mo buyag!

Bring Back Those Days
As the sun falls, a memory arise to my mind.
Faced the mirror, smile on my face is what I find.
Look at the sun sets, moon and feel the sea breeze
go back to the past is what I wish.
Brother, sister does it ring a bell?
How our face lights up when we smell,
the sweet aroma of baked goods as we pack our things and giggle.
"We're going to the beach! "
How lovely as I imagine, the beach is within our reach.
A I run to the beach, the smell of salt in the breeze
the waves ,the moon's brightness gives me peace.
My family's laughter as we play is what I miss.
I can't stop smiling as I reminisce.
Bring back those days,
where happiness in family matters in any ways.
Staring at the sun setting, what can I do?
Feel nostalgic and say addio.

Don’t Lie to Me
Wipe the bright smile on your face,
It won’t decieve me.
You said you’d come back,
Yet you’re not here.
Don’t lie to me.
Suddenly I recall your promise,
A stab of pain on my chest is what
I felt.
I shut my eyes as the cold breeze
crash against my legs.
Your painful promise filled my ear,
and all I could do is cry.
I can clearly remember that day, your charming face.
The smell of freshly picked flowers you gave me.
The way you bid your goodbye,
the way you uttered the words,
“I’ll be back”, broke me to pieces.
I swore I would be strong.
Convinced myself I could move on.
But love is pain, and nothing more.
My heart still in vain,
Please,don’t lie to me.

Wish Upon A Star
FIRST PERSON POINT OF VIEW
I opened the window of my room and looked at the night sky. It's full of stars tonight. It sounds cliché but I've always loved the idea of watching the stars with the person I love.As I stare at the starry sky,a shooting star appears and just before it drops out of my sight,I closed my eyes and wished something.Something that I have been wishing since she taught me what wishing stars are.I'm Luna Javier by the way.I'm just an ordinary 18 year old girl who is in search for someone so important. My mother loves the moon so much that she named me after it.She loves everything about the night sky actually.I can still remember the very first time she introduced me to the wishing stars.
I'm in my room doing my homework which I barely understand just like any typical 10 years old school girl.I'm waiting for my mom,Alexandra. That's a unique name for a mother right? She said she's gonna teach me so I can answer the homework given to me.
"Ugh!What took her so long?I've been staring at my notebook for the past minutes. I'm getting bored"." I uttered as I lay down on my bed.
Few minutes later I fell asleep.I closed my eyes and few minutes later I just found myself dreaming.
I felt somebody sat beside me. I slowly open my eyes. My vision was blurry at first but later on, I recognized my mother who is sitting beside me while reading my notes.
"Mom?"
She then stop what she is doing and looked at me, " Hello sweetie.I'm sorry it took me an hour before coming here." I chuckled. "That's okay mom.Good thing I fell asleep.I got bored trying to understand those."
"Come here.Let's begin our discussion shall we,daughter?" she laughs and started to teach me everything.
After an hour I finally understood and answered my homework.I looked at her and smiled.
"Thank you mom.At last, I can sleep peacefully." I said as I walk towards the window.
"Look, the stars are plenty tonight mother. Also the moon is shining bright.Just like you."
My mother is attractive.I am named after the moon. But my mom is the moon, she shines beautifully even at night.
"You inherited that from your daddy Pete." she told me and hugged me.
"What?" I asked. "That.Being mambobola." she replied and ruffled my hair.
"Heyyy!Dad's not lying. And I'm not born to be a lier.It is true." I pouted as I face outside the window.
Just then something appeared in the night sky.I turned to ask my mother but I saw her closing her eyes as soon as she sees it.
"What are you doing?" I asked her.I'm curious you know.
She opened her eyes and smiled at me.I don't know ha but I have never seen my mother cry. She's always smiling like she doesn't have any problems at all.
"Are you not familiar of wishing stars sweetie?" she said this time facing me.
"Wishing stars? No.What are those? And what's with them? Why are you-" She covered my mouth just before I can bombard her with questions.
"Easy there little girl.I will tell you what is a wishing star."
Because of that I listened to her carefully.
"Are you ready?" I nodded.
"Legend has it that wishing upon a shooting star makes the wish come true.As a result, stars sometimes slip out of this gap, becoming visible as shooting or falling stars.Since the Gods are already looking at us at such a time, they tend to be more receptive to any wishes we make." she explains.
"So you're wishing a while ago?And why are you closing your eyes?" I asked AGAIN.
"Because anything like external happenings like birds flying won't distract us and concentrate on our wishes." she told me
"Oh that's why.May I know your wish,mother?" she smiled.I swear if she's not beautiful and she's not my mother,I'd say she's crazy.Just kidding.
"No.Someone told me,telling your wish to others hinders the granting of your wish.It won't come true so,I say no daughter.I can't tell you."
"Hmm.Thank you for sharing something about wishing stars mother!" I kissed her cheek and hugged her.She hugged me back.
I jerked as I heard a knock on my door.
"Luna?" my father whose name is Pete Javier, called my name.
Ah,I remembered that night again.Today that woman,is no longer with us.I don't understand why she left us.No reason,no words at all.I've been searching for her but I can't find even a single strand of her hair. The day she left us was the day my father became miserable but luckily he's much better now.I'm not mad at her.Maybe because i love my mother so much.Whatever the reason is,I think I can totally understand.
"Luna are you there?Don't tell me you sneaked out again.God." he said and knocked again.
Yes I always sneak out the house because I always hoped I could see her somewhere.I've been hoping and sneaking for four years now.I sigh and went to open the door.
As soon as the door was opened,my father's worried face met my blank face.
"Did you went out again?' he asked. I smiled.
"No.I was just looking at the sky from my window." I replied.
He made a sigh of relief. "Let's go downstairs.Let's have a cup of milk before going to bed."
I mouthed okay then followed him.I know he's just trying to spend his little time with me because he's been working since mom left. And that's okay, atleast.I sat down and started drinking it slowly as we're having a conversation.
"Dad aren't you mad at mom?" I asked him
"No.Never.I love your mom and I'm sure she has reasons." he answered.
Then silence followed.
I'm proud of my father. He's miserable I'm telling you but because he loves mom so much,he can't get mad at her.
"Anyway, tomorrow's my final exam dad. After that I will be able to fly to Amsterdam." I informed him
"Are you sure Alexandra is there?" he asked, worried again.I nodded and gave him a reassuring smile.
"Yes dad.And don't give me that look.I'm gonna be fine.I'm going to find mom." I said with finality then I decided to go to bed.
11 WEEK LATER
Finally,Amsterdam.Wondering why I'm here?A friend of my mother told me that she went in Amsterdam. So I'm here.I'm not giving up on searching for my mom.Even if it means spending all my money,I don't care.I'm willing to follow her anywhere to see her.I just need to hear her explanation.
I'm currently staying with my auntie Zel,my father's sibling at Amsterdam-Zuid.Her house is big enough for me.And good thing she's not strict at all.I told her about my mother and she totally understand. She's cool.
I just stayed inside my room until evening came. It's a starry night again mother.I know you're out there,we're looking at the same sky.Waiting for a wishing star to appear.I chuckled in my thought.I missed doing this with them, when we were still complete. Then a shooting star really appeared.I quickly closed my eyes and made a wish.
'Please make it come true.'
A few minutes later I decided to sleep. It's gonna be a long day tomorrow then I fell into a deep slumber.
2 WEEKS LATER
"Ugh gosh." I uttered as I walk to go to another house to ask people.
I knocked on the door and waited patiently until the door opened by itself.Just kidding,it was opened by a woman,I think in her 40's.
"Hallo goedenmiddag.May I ask?" I smiled. "Yes sure. What is it?" she gladly replied.
"Do you know her by chance?Or is she familiar to you?" I asked. "No sorry.I haven't seen her here." she answered apologetically as she handed me back my mother's picture.
"Oh okay.Dank je madam." I said and left
I sat down on the nearest bench. This has been going like this since last week. There is still no progress. No one knows her.I've been to many places in amsterdam and I can't still find her.I went to buitenveldert, amstelveen, diamantbuurt, rivierenbuurt and stadionbuurt. There's only one place left and that is Apollobuurt. One last place and I'm living amsterdam.
Darkness came,I went home after eating dinner.I looked so tired my auntie asked me if I'm okay.I only smiled at her and said "I am." then went straight to my room.
"Aish.Wishing star I need you.I'm losing all of my hope." I said almost crying because of being tired.
An hour later a wishing star appeared again.I closed my eyes and made wish.Same process but too much sadness inside me.Then I fell asleep heads on my table.
Andddd today is another day.I'm going to Apollobuurt. My one last hope.So I continued my journey on finding my mother. From one house to another house but I really don't wanna give up.I promised my father I would find her.i saw a woman, standing on her patio.I called her with politeness.
"Excuse me madam!May I ask?" she went near me. "What is it?" I handed her the picture and a hint of recognition is evident in her eyes. "Yes yes.I know her.She is lady Alexandra." my heart skip a beat as the woman recognizes her.
"Really? Can you tell me where she is now?I need to see her." I told her.
"Sure.I'll just get my keys." "W-why?Can't we just walk?" I asked. "No.Lady Alexandra's house is a little bit far from here." "Oh okay." i uttered.
Few minutes later, "We have arrive." the woman announces.I got out from the car.
"This, this is where she lives." the woman says. As I was about to knock, the door suddenly opened.A familiar eyes met mine.I stared at her trying to fix myself. Those smile as bright as the moon.I can't stop myself.I uttered the word, "Mom?" she was also shocked as she recognizes me. "Luna!" she said and quickly went to me,with trembling hands, she cupped my faced. "My Luna." both of us cried.
A moment later she invited me inside her house.I went inside and saw a handsome guy, just the same age as hers.I ask her why she left us.And she gladly answered it without any hesitation.I learned that her first family is here.18 years ago she left amsterdam because she and her husband had a huge fight. Then she met my father and they had me.She thought of not going back but her husband was sorry. They have 3 children.Although it broke her heart, she decided to leave. So basically,we're just her second family.Ofcourse it broke my heart.
"I'm glad you searched for me.I'm so sorry sweetie." she was about to cry but I told her,"Mom,I knew you have reason." i said and hugged her, tight as if I'm never letting her go.
"I miss you so much. After I left you,I've been wishing for this." She said.
"The day you left me mom was also the day I began wishing everytime a wishing star appears." I said and cried.
I told her for four years,I've been sneaking out to find her and sleep late just to wait for the wishing star to appear.
After talking with her,I met her family. They're really nice. They're not even mad at us.Few weeks after I flew back to the Philippines to tell father the good news.He was so happy.Atleast we're not that that father and daughter tandem that doesn't know why the light of their life left them.Mom is visiting every year and talks with us through video calls.I say we're happy now.Never feeling empty.Since then, when a wishing star appears,I don't wish anymore.I only close my eyes and says thank you.
Some people say wishing upon a star is just for foolish people. They said it's not true.I say it is true.I have been wishing to find my mother and I did.Impossible things happen all the time, you just have to believe it can.My father taught me that being angry is never the answer. If you truly love the person, you would understand them 'cause they surely have reasons why they have done things against our will and sometimes,we just have to accept what happened, smile then move on.

Harry Potter,Always in Our Hearts.
"Always."
One word, but a memorable quote that shows whether it’s a love for someone or an idea of love you uphold, you’re looking for one you can carry out until the end and that made us love Harry Potter series even more.
J.K Rowling's first novel,Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was published in 1997 then followed by the next books. The novels have been translated into 80 languages, sold over 500 million copies, and made into 8 blockbuster films. There's one thing that Harry Potter fans know, the movie is way different from the books. The books and the movies are two very different beasts. This means that if you’ve only ever seen the films and never read the books (or vice versa).
Where the magic happened. The original series designed the greatest series by J.K. Rowling who retraces Harry Potter story during his scholarship at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Each novel corresponds to a year-long period of time.
Admit it or not,Harry Potter series made us think that we could all be wizard.Harry had been clueless of his own magical convention,J.K Rowling's decision to represent the wizarding world's initiation in such a way made us all hope that on our 11th birthday we too would receive a Hogwarts attendance letter. Also, each character's name and trait is a well-thought-out hint to what their own narrative will be.Additionally,it got young children reading which is a good thing. While the books were released before the age of the internet as we know it, they have played an important role in getting young children across the world invested in the world of literature.
"Muggles, felix felicis, wingardium leviosa"
these words - amongst hundreds of others - 20 years ago would have meant nothing to the world. Now, they're part of a lexicon that unites fans all over the world.
But true love last, always.Love is a strong theme throughout the books. If you love someone completely it can never be undone. Lily’s love for Harry granted him protection and Snape’s love for Lily shaped his path after her death. True love lasts forever. Just because a person dies doesn’t mean our love for them does; a comforting lesson we can take heart in.
The ultimate reason why Harry Potter still lives in our heart up until now is that aside from magic, the values it taught us are fully human. We have bravery, from facing dementors to killing Voldemort.Loyalty- the very definition of the word is Snape's actions. Also who wouldn't love the lines of each of the characters, which is memorable and full of values.
“It is important to fight and fight again, and keep fighting, for only then can evil be kept at bay though never quite eradicated."
One of the many lines in the series that always caught our heart. Those quotes were relatable, really.
Because of the book,we met people. It unite their fans from all over the world. We made friends from people who we didn't expect to be friends with.
There are so many reason why we love and why it is in our hearts until now.Not only is Harry Potter one of the best fictional stories ever written, but it’s a story that allows you to learn about yourself, and the world around around you. It teaches you to look at the world differently, it encourages you to believe in magic, it challenges you to believe in yourself, and to be brave during hard times.
That's it for todaaaaay!Au Revoir.Evanesco!

Reaction Paper: DEAD STARS
When stars die, their radiance fades. As we embrace darkness,we see millions of stars on the sky but we never knew that some of them are already dead.Just like Alfredo's love for Julia,he thought it would last but it did not.
Dead stars is a story about a man who's name is Alfredo Salazar who had an affair. He had a fiancé named Esperanza. They're an ideal couple, that's what the society perceive them. His love for her fades as he falls inlove with another woman who's name is Julia. She was just a visitor in the town but Alfredo found new happiness in her.Julia plans to leave the town one day,so Alfredo came to confess to her his feelings. He even thought of choosing Julia over his fiancé.In the end he chose Esperanza and married her.He was happy because everything is back into where it used to be.Later on he stumbled upon Julia and find that the feelings he felt for her was gone.He recognize his love for Julia as dead stars.
Formalism is defined as a literary criticism approach which provides readers with a way to understand and enjoy a work for its own inherent value as a piece of literary art. The story was written way back 1925 by Paz Marquez. The story portrays the norms and manners of the people during that time.It uses the omniscient point of view in which the authors know the feelings and thoughts of every character in the story. It's twist is a little unexpected unlike any other stories.Alfredo falls inlove with Julia even though he had fiancé,but he chose Esperanza over her.Years passed,he and Julia met again and never came back to her because he realize that the love he felt for her was now gone. The theme of the story is a forbidden love.Forbidden love disturbs the person until he realizes his fault.Dead stars enabled the readers to understand how the marriage and courtship are viewed during the 20th century.
Feminist criticism shows how gender roles evolve in the story. It examines gender politics works.Esperanza is just a normal woman who waits for her man's decison. On the contrary,Alfredo shows weakness that should never be shown.Meanwhile the story showed Alfredo as a logical man and Esperanza is kind which is odd since the society view man superior to woman.
Things happen unexpectedly in our everyday lives. One day,you fall deeply inlove and then the next day,the feelings fade. But we should choose the right decision for us to be happy.Dead stars showed us that every human fights the emotions inside us and we overcome them.We all have emotions that rob our lives afterall. And yes everything happens for a reason.
