The optional rubbers threw Eddie for a loop. He had a very expressive face so anyone present could see how the comment caught him off guard. From the moment he got the invite he knew he was getting something, he figured the sex was optional, but the rubbers? Jesus Christ! The world did not need another Munson running around Hawkins.
Eddie was so out of his element right now talking to these rich cheerleaders. He should have known at the mention of "ski resort" but he figured it'd been teenagers drinking, smoking and fucking in a fancier setting. Skiing?! Eddie wasn't the most coordinated guy on the planet. He's tripped over his own feet several times. In his defense, his growth spurt was still going and he was tall, thin and had long limbs - they got in the way. "I'm more of a boozy hot chocolate on the couch guy than speeding down a snow mountain on skiis kind of guy." Safer, more comfortable too.
He held the welcome package in his hand, looking down at it as Chrissy spoke. How the hell did we get here?! He was handing out candy canes and now he was going to die on a snowy mountain. His head snapped up from the papers he was looking at when Chrissy offered to pick him up, "Um…" He was embarrassed because he didn't want rich Chrissy, with her rich cousin, and her rich friends, to drive into the trailer park. "I can meet you downtown on the way out." He'd get someone to drive him there. Maybe Gareth, and let him keep the van over the weekend. "Anything else I need to know? Am I sharing a room with Jason Carver? Cause I'd rather take my chances on the mountain."
Rachel, the cheerleader who invited Eddie, smiled at Chrissy in a knowing manner. "I promised to keep him warm. You're welcome to join. Rubbers are optional. See you there, Eddie." She blew a kiss at him and waved at Chrissy, who waved back and finally blushed when the girl mouthed for the cheer captain to think about the offer.
"I'm so sorry about that," Chrissy apologized to Eddie, with a somewhat shy smile. Whether she was considering the offer was a mystery. The history behind the ski trip for Hawkins High seniors was a rite of passage. Booze, drugs, and hormonal teenagers whose parents did similar or worse things in their days of youth. "Yes, so, um. I made welcome packets..."
Bringing her backpack to the front, she unzipped the main compartment. Eddie could see the candy cane he gave Chrissy tucked safely with the pencils and pens, before she pulled out a large white envelope, decorated with her handwriting and Christmas stickers that she held out for him to take. "Here you are. Everything is paid for. Including the rentals for ski gear and lessons. All you have to worry about is to pack warmly and have a good time!" She giggled, zipping up her backpack and readjusting it as she spoke. "Shouldn't be too hard with Rachel."
And, now he had the name of the cheerleader who invited him. "If you have any questions, my phone number is inside." Again, the way she spoke to Eddie was sweet when she offered to help him. "Do you need a ride? My cousin is taking me. We can pick you up..." She let the offer hang in the air, and while it was common knowledge that Jason drove Chrissy around, he had his friends to worry about.

"Only took me twenty years to get there." On the nice list, that is. He said it with a big ol' smile on his face too. Eddie wasn't a bad kid, didn't turn out to be a bad guy either but he knew his reputation and he decided to own it. In middle school he spent too long fighting off the 'freak' tag, high school he made it his own.
He took the candy cane filled with chocolates, looking at it and grinning at the thought that crossed his mind - this was gonna be great after smoking a joint, when those munchies hit. "Thanks, Cunningham." He gave a little nod of appreciation.
"Hey, so uh, you going to this ski resort thing?" The girl that invited him was standing right there and all Eddie could focus on was the elf-height girl with the mistletoe headband. "Anything I should know? I'm more of a trailer park guy than a resort guy."
She never thought of anyone to be beneath her, unlike past popular girls of Hawkins High. So, when she heard Eddie call out to her, there wasn’t any hesitation on her end to stop abruptly as she turned to him. “Yes..?” Beside her, Penelope made a comment about her arm nearly being ripped out from the way Chrissy guided her prior. A comment which landed on deaf ears on Chrissy’s part, because what Eddie had done next was actually rather sweet. Sure, it was just a candy cane but it seemed to be one of a few Eddie had on hand.
“Oh, that’s so nice.” There also wasn’t a hint of sarcasm in her tone. Rather, she was true with her appreciation. “Thank you so much! Merry Christmas —“ Now it was Penelope’s turn to pull Chrissy along, reminding her friend of the time. Five minutes until the first bell rung, according to the clock down the hall. “Penny, could you save me a spot? I’ll be right back.” Her friend wasn’t dumb, because the second Chrissy turned on her heel to head in the direction towards Eddie, it was obvious she wanted to repay him for the candy cane.
Besides, there was a lot of chocolate kisses in the holiday plastic candy cane Chrissy was meant to give to Jason, as a way to honor the mistletoe on her Santa hat. Thankfully, Eddie’s attention was on one of her cheermates while she filled in the gift tag with Eddie’s name on the to and her own name on the from. Each of the i’s in their names dotted with a snowflake drawing.
Everyone knew Chrissy was loyal to Jason, so the cheerleader who was getting up close and personal with Eddie didn’t take any offense when Chrissy tapped Eddie on the shoulder. When his attention turned back to her, she smiled. “Hi, um.” Holding out the plastic candy cane filled with chocolate kisses. “Santa said you’re on the Nice List.” And, that is why her friend on the squad was confident she had Eddie wrapped around her little finger.

There were two reasons why Eddie stopped to talk to the cheerleaders. One was to get Chrissy's attention, of course. The second one was to give away some mint-chocolate candy canes that he'd gotten with his five finger discount. It became sort of a game to see how many he could actually steal without getting caught and well, he had way too many. Apparently stealing is easier when people are genuinely scared of you. Go figure.
"Wait. Cunningham." Ballsy, really. Maybe Eddie was possessed by the ghost of Christmas past. Or some shit. He reached into his pocket, handing her a candy cane. "Merry Christmas." As if he wasn't going to see her later but he'd already made up his mind that he was going to the ski resort with… with… ah, yes, asking her name would probably be a smart move.
Trying to play it cool after completely losing it over Chrissy walking away, he turned back to the girl. "I'm not a ski resort kind of guy so… you gotta keep me warm. You in?" He said that with the cockiest grin he'd ever worn on that dorky face of his. But hey, she was flirting so he could flirt too right? Right.
The girl grinned. "Why else would I invite you?"
Oh it really was the season for giving.
It was one of the busiest days for Chrissy, and this was one for the books! Last Christmas of her high school senior year, after all. And, she wasn’t wearing a Santa hat this time around, either. Instead, she went for a holiday headband with a tiny Santa hat with some mistletoe. She was also wearing glittering earrings shaped like snowflakes. They glistened like snow in daylight due to them being made out of real diamonds. An early Christmas present from her grandfather.
Her best friend was admiring them at the time when Eddie had approached the cheerleaders, who like everyone else at school, were in high spirits. Perhaps a little too high, considering some of the cheerleaders took the opportunity to answer Eddie’s question in a flirtatious manner. Most were single and there was talk amongst them when it came to drug deals and the form they used to pay him.
Penelope made a face at the other cheerleaders rather than at Eddie, before her attention went back to Chrissy. “So, as I was saying, they have a spa and I already arranged a session for us… are you listening?” Because Chrissy’s attention was occupied on the other girls filling Eddie with information and invites for him to be their plus one to the ski resort that they were heading out to later that night. It was nearly 2 hours away from Hawkins.
Her friend noticed Chrissy being nosy and smirked as she nudged the petite cheer captain. “Oh, um. No, I mean, yes I was listening. Sorry.” Chrissy quickly apologized, playing with the straps of her backpack. “Yes… that, um, sounds amazing.” Then, she checked the time on her watch and gasped, taking her friend’s hand to pull her along to their first class that morning. “We’re going to be late. Come on!” What most didn’t know was that her grades were suffering and she couldn’t afford to be late, nor skip any classes, or risk her cheer dream.

It was the last school day before Christmas and Eddie was ecstatic about it. It felt like he could be as disruptive as he wanted and, well, what's the worse that could happen? For once he actually seemed excited to go to school. Not even the four inches of snow from the previous night bothered him. Hell, he even saw the bright side in that. It was fun to drive the van around when it was sliding on ice. Note to self: ask for tires for Christmas.
Everyone was in the holiday spirit at Hawkins High, handing out candy canes, wearing Santa hats. Pretty much everyone was wearing something red. Not Eddie though. He went with his usual black, even black jeans. He ditched the Santa Claus hat though - went for reindeer antlers in the form of a headband. And to be even more obnoxious, the antlers had little jingle bells on them. Every time he moved, which with Eddie was a lot, they'd make noise. Oh it was going to be a long day for his teachers.
He walked down the hall with a candy cane hanging from his mouth. He didn't stop by his locker for his books because what kind of psychopath would teach on a day like today? Hee didn't think he'd need them. On his way to class Eddie walked by the cheerleaders and actually stopped to talk to them for once. "Naughty or nice?"

Rant.
Being an attorney isn't so much about the work. My paralegal does the work and she is amazing. I've learned that we get paid for our signature and our brain but my brain is burnt out.
Like last night I dreamed about the case, and today I woke up ready to work on the direct examination and suddenly I don't know how to ask questions.
I'm not gone, guys. I'm just trying to adjust and it's killing me.

He's so insanely hot here, I can't even—like, the shoulders, the jacket, the HEIGHT, the way he moves?? If I were Chrissy, I’d have jumped on his back, glued myself to his shoulder, and not even Satan himself could pry me off

Being a business owner was new, and definitely not something Eddie ever visualized himself doing. The business itself was on brand though. Eddie owned his own tattoo shop smack in the middle of downtown Indianapolis. It wasn't fancy, it wasn't even that big. It was fine though because he was currently the only employee. Being his own boss though? That was something he could get used to.
One thing no one prepared him for was how boring owning your own business was when it was a slow day. No day was slower than a Tuesday at a tattoo shop. He only had two clients scheduled that day and they were both in and out before 2pm. He'd been waiting for walk-ins or appointment schedules for an hour before he decided to call it a day and lock up. Not like he could get fired.
He threw on his leather jacket, flipped the sign from Open to Closed and locked the door as he walked out. Just as he was turning around to walk to his van - yes, he still owned that thing, he saw somoene headed his way. He wasn't sure if they were walking towards him or to the clothing shop two doors down so he just stood there waiting. Not wanting to look like a total idiot, he pretended to be searching for something in his pockets. Luckily, but not surprisingly, he did find something - his cigarettes. Might as well make himself look busy for real - so he lit up right outside his shop.

Tuesdays were Eddie's second favorite day of the week. Second only to Fridays. Fridays meant two things: Dungeons & Dragons and the weekend. Tuesdays though, Tuesdays meant he got to play The Hideout with Corroded Coffin and that meant he got to live his rockstar dream in front of five drunks. Gotta start somewhere, right?
It was always the same five people. Eddie had put up flyers around Hawkins High, only to have them taking down by the administration or ruined by his fellow students. The only flyer in town that remained was the one at the local record store downtown. Not that it helped draw people in because it was hanging above the 'metal' section and let's face it - not many metal heads in Hawkins.
The small crowd didn't take away from Eddie's excitement though. It was always about the music. His music. He wrote the lyrics, he wrote the music, his guitar solos were all his and he could show the world (or, five people) everything he'd taught himself when it came to music.
There were pros to the small crowd too - Eddie could pretty much do whatever he wanted and no one said anything. For instance, lately he'd been taking off his shirt mid-set when it got too hot. He'd seen real rockstars do it and he figured he'd try it out too. Gave him a chance to show off his chest tattoo.
The band had just finished setting up on the small stage, if you could even call it that. Eddie leaned his guitar against the wall then hopped down to get his very illegal pre-show beer.

Had someone told 19 year old Eddie he'd be living in Los Angeles, he would have rolled his eyes so hard he probably would have fallen off the bench behind the school and burnt himself with the joint he'd be holding between his fingers.
Yet here he was, twenty three years old and living in Los Angeles. And for the first time in his life, he didn't feel like the freak. All things considered Eddie was pretty tame considering the characters that called Los Angeles home. His look wasn't shocking to anyone. No one avoided crossing paths with him as he walked down the sidewalk. It was a good feelings.
Making friends had never been easy for Eddie and the move didn't make it any easier. Not that it mattered, he'd moved in with his best friend from Hawkins, Harley, so he wasn't totally alone. Harley was probably the only person in the world that understood Eddie - his moods, his wildness, even his carefully hidden soft side.
The two of them shared a small two bedroom apartment in the city. The apartment was probably to small for the two of them but they really couldn't beat the location. Drug users on the sidewalk aside, it was perfect. They could walk pretty much anywhere and if they couldn't they could easily hail a cab. Life was looking up for Eddie. His job as a tattoo artist paid the rent and he had enough free time to work on his music while waiting on his big break.
Saturdays were the busiest day of the week so it was well past dinner time by the time he made it to the apartment. He didn't come empty handed though. "Honey, I'm home!" He was loud and sarcastic; as expected. "Brought Thai food." Eddie had never tried Thai food in his life. He'd heard good things and figured he might as well try it. "Harley?" He called out after not hearing an answer when he announced he was home. "You eat yet? You dead? You even here? Am I talking to myself again?"
