Eating disorders while on your period
Hey all afabs, I haven't seen a post quite like this one out there so I thought I'd help get the word out. I would appreciate if you would share this and help get it out to others who still get them.
We all know the struggles that come with our period, especially with food. We get intense cravings and stomach discomfort. It's worse when you have an eating disorder. The guilt builds up whether its due to bloating or eating more, its unbearable. So here's some health facts and tips to help you cope during the already awful red week.
Health facts you need to know
Your body is going through a lot of hormonal changes during red week AND a week leading up to it. Your metabolic rate actually increases a week before and during your period! You burn more calories during that time than any other time during the month.
You should be eating 100-300 more calories during your period than usual.
So if you're feeling guilty about eating a little extra on your period, try not to. Your body is burning more and therefore it's not counting to any weight gain.
Exercise you can do on your period that will help relieve cramps
Feeling guilty about what excercise you can and can't do on your period? Same! You're scared of what pain it might cause and walking for an hour like you usually do is worse pain.
Try yoga, stretching, or if you're brave enough, swimming! These exercises will not only burn calories but will also help relieve cramps.
Yoga burns 120-170 calories each 30 minutes
Stretching burns 70-100 calories each 30 minutes
Swimming burns 300-400 calories per 30 minutes!
Foods to eat and avoid
What you eat during your period is extremely important. The foods you eat will directly impact your weight, hormonal balance, and mood. All foods suggested will be healthy and low calorie!

Eating iron and protein rich foods are extremely important. Your iron levels will be low and chances of fainting, especially if you're still restricting, are much higher. -Kale, spinach, broccoli
Protein is going to help with cramps and help rebuild what you've lost. -Eggwhites, red meats, nuts
Vitamin B and C is a must! Vitamin B will help boost your energy and mood. Vitamin C will help protect your immune system while its weak. -Bananas, oranges
Caffeine will help control your cramps and other pains that come along with your period (the dreaded period poops). -Dark chocolate, chai tea, black coffee

Carbonated drinks are going to cause bloating like crazy! Not only are most of them packed with sugar and sodium, you will bloat and retain water- in turn- weighing more.
Processed and fried foods are high in sodium and trans fats which will cause bloating and inflammation causing your cramps and stomach pains to get worse.
Legumes are any kind of beans AND PEANUTS! Peanuts are not a nut, they are actually what is considered a legume. Legumes will cause major bloating so keep peanut butter and beans out of your intake.
Refined grains such as white bread,crackers, white rice, and pasta are high in calories with almost no nutritional value. You are eating empty calories that actually interfere with your blood sugar levels.
High fat foods such as processed meat and dairy interfere with your hormone levels and cause inflammation. You will become moody and full of pain!

80 g of greek yogurt
½ glass of popcorn
4 cashew nuts
2 walnuts
200 g of arugula
50 g of bananas
130 g of raspberries
1 bite of cheeseburger/hamburger
320 g of cucumbers
340 g of celery
200 g of champignons
9 g of lays classic chips
12 cherries
6 dill pickles
60 blueberries
95 g of kefir
18 ml of cheese sauce
60 g of banana and currant smoothie
1½ peach
1 tsp of honey
95ml of mango juice
feel free to add
how to burn 50 cals?
rest for 10 seconds after each exercise
40 sec bridge
40 sec butt bridge
40 sec cat cow pose
40 sec child's pose
20 sec kneeling lunge stretch (each side)
20 sec plank
40 sec cobra stretch
20 sec sitting hamstring stretch (each side)
40 sec torso twist
20 sec triangle pose (each side)
40 sec forward bend
total: 9 mins, 50 cals burned
doing squats for 3-5 mins (depends on your weight) will make you burn 50 cals as well but it's not as iNtEResTinG as STretChiNG
all these are super easy and will let you relax if you do everything right

Some good old hearty Ana Advice💖💖💖
PLEASE I am in no way endorsing eating disorders. This is just list of a few things that I’ve learnt and that’s helped me through this war. So, with formalities over, let’s begin with the fun stuff:
Wash your hands regularly. Your immune system is already in panic mode. There’s no need for unnecessary germs. Gross.
BIG breakfast. MEDium lunch. small dinner. T R U S T me.
Zombies aren’t really gorgeous unless you know, that’s your kink or whatever, so get some zzzzz.
Invest in oils and skincare because boiii you’re going to need it.
H2O my friends. H2O. It’s zero calories and fills you up. Live off it.
Research some ED symptoms. Now you know what NOT to do infront of family and friends.
I have a set of face masks and my favourite perfume that I may only use on the day I hit a goal weight. This motivates me to lose more, quicker.
Acknowledge your victories. Every single one. Not only will you feel good and more motivated, but your brain will hook onto the feeling of praise and will want to experience it again.
This is quite a popular one, but keep a stack of magazines in your room, one magazine per pound you want to lose. Take one off everytime you lose a pound, add one of you gain. Watch that bitch shrink.
If you have snacks in your room or live alone, put sticky notes on the food packages with the amount of calories. When you want to eat it the consequences are staring you in the face before you even open the damn thing.
Please take care of yourself. You want to be alive and skinny, not dead and skinny.

it will get easier
your stomach will shrink. your appetite will lessen. today my mom took my to lunch and ordered me a meal that three months ago, i wouldve finished in ten minutes. i could barely eat even a quarter of the main part of the meal without feeling uncomfortably full. when you arent binging and are restricting, youll see results. youll feel it. itll get easier. just keep pushing and you will get there.

When I’m hungry I feel good empty and clean. I feel good when my skin is getting cold.. it’s a sign that I’ve eaten a right amount of calories.
