Leaving on a jet plane✈️🌍🇸🇱
Well... The day has arrived. In about 30 minutes I leave for Makeni, Sierra Leone. It seemed so far away and then in a blink of an eye it is time to board the plane. Thank you all for your support in all fashions. Please continue to keep us in prayer for safety, good travels, and great opportunities. I will have a ton of pictures and stories upon my return and look forward to sharing all of them with you! Also, keep my family at home in prayer and reach out if you are so led. Gotta jet!✈️

5 DAYS!!!
The count down continues, and its starting to get very close. Donations of financial support and items to handout are still coming in and we are so very humbled by the support we are receiving.
As an added note, my wife and I have started a non-profit called Six Eight Missions. This is to help facilitate this trip as well as many soon to come local outreach projects. Keep up the great support, share our cause, our site, and our goal.

Less than the snow...
Today marks 25 days until I fly out of Dulles towards Brussels and then on to Freetown, Sierra Leone. That is less days than Baltimore received in inches of snow from #Jonas2016. It's starting to get real. To find out more about the trip, check out: sierraleone2016.mydagsite.com Make a comment and/or a donation! Ed

Tick Tock...
The time is counting down! only a few more days and it will be a month to go. In the past week or so since my last post, i have been overwhelmed. Not by life or stress, but by the generosity of so many friends and family members. I am just about at the half way point in my fundraising efforts (check out my crowd funding page: sierraleone2016.mydagsite.com). keep up the shares and the donations!!!
Also, just this past Sunday i was invited to speak briefly regarding my trip to Sierra Leone by my good friend Bill Carroll. He leads Betterton UMC and Still Pond UMC here in Kent County, MD. What a small world- one of the parishioners was my Sunday School teacher way back when i was just a wee lad. Different church, different affiliation, different times. It was great to see the enthusiasm of so many close “strangers”, people whom I didn’t necessarily know, but we still were joined by our faith. People with common goals but different backgrounds.
Kinda makes you think... Don’t we all want what is best for our loved ones? Are we all not wishing for the same things? Let’s make 2016 a year of enlightenment and encouragement. Strive to be better today than yesterday.

Hitting the “Big Five O”
Less than 50 days to go, and eagerly getting things that are on my “to do” list taken care of. The fundraising is moving along nicely and I continue to seek more information regarding the region I am headed towards.
For instance: Did you know the average life expectancy for the citizenry of Sierra Leone is 45.33 years of age? 45.33?!?!?!?
Let’s put that into perspective... The United States had that same life expectancy age in, are you ready for this, 1890!
Increasing humanitarian and world health initiatives will increase expectancy age, but we can not rely only on Governments to do this... It starts with you and I. Visit my page and share on all of your social media outlets. I am looking to hit 50 “likes and shares” on Facebook today. Make a difference!

T-Minus 52
Today the count is at 52. It seems that just yesterday’s count to Christmas was at the same number (and that came and went in a flash). Reflecting on the holiday season, I am reminded how incredibly blessed we all are, in various and differing ways: family, food, warm homes, gifts, the list goes on and on. Yesterday I wanted to start the year off by hitting a goal of $250 on my crowdfunding site (http://sierraleone2016.mydagsite.com) and was surprised at the generosity. Not only did we set and achieve our goal, but by 8:30 this morning, just 24 hours later, we were at $540. WOW!!! Humbling doesn’t describe the feeling. The encouraging words of the donors just builds more resolve in doing this the right way. I ask for your continued prayers and support, your words of encouragement, and your willingness to help spread the word. I’m looking for maximum exposure to reach as many as I can, so that in turn I can help REACH as many as possible. YOU ARE INTEGRAL IN THIS EFFORT! Thanks in advance, and make today great! #eds.on.a.mission

Happy New Year!!!
2016 is upon us and in just 52 days it will be "wheels up" to Sierra Leone. The funding site is rolling along, emails (round 1) have gone out, tickets ordered, team assembled... God is good. I am looking to bump up the "likes" and "shares" on both this blog and the funding page: http://sierraleone2016.mydagsite.com

Yellow Carded!
And i don’t even play Soccer...
Today I received my last vaccination (Yellow Fever) and also was given my yellow card. Basically, it MUST accompany your passport into regions that the CDC deems an active Yellow Fever area and proves that you have been properly protected. No card, no entry.
Also, my crowdfunding site is up and running and we are actively receiving donations. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Shots! Shots! Shots!
Tomorrow I head to Passport Health in Easton, Md for my last vaccination: Yellow Fever. The staff there has been very helpful and informative as what I should expect. If you are headed out and about the world, look them up!

James 2:14-26
Today I am reminded that everything works on God’s time, not ours. How naive is it to think that things happen because we will it? Half the time i can barely will myself to get out of bed on the first alarm, let alone the snooze alarm ten minutes later...
I have longed for an opportunity to go to Africa on a mission trip for years, but i have the constant problem of getting in my own way and “rationalizing” God’s plan to fit mine. I am excited to say that 2 weeks ago took the advice of Ace of Base, and I saw the sign. Not sure what we are doing, haven’t met any member of the mission team I am now a member of, nor am i postive how i will raise the money needed to pay for this trip... but I am letting go (that reference is for you Eric A.) and I am letting God. Sierra Leone in late February.
More details to follow...

Ed's on a mission...
It seems that we each have our own missions in life. Some are unchanging and some are new missions each day. This is an effort to chronicle and document both types. Hopefully, you have similar interests, goals, and dreams. Please feel free to share what you like and follow along.
