Some screenshots from Earthbreaker to celebrate the @thunderversary-rewatch-party because I realised that even though they are terrible quality and there are probably better out there and it’s not *every* good moment I’d want to… I can still post them anyway 🤭
First, Angry Scott:

I shall save that one for RP reaction image cos it seems… versatile 😏
ThunderRock Two:

And two more entries for my “Commander Scott backlit by fire or other light emitting perils” collection:

EARTHBREAKER!!!!
I didn’t quite manage to finish my story in time but some ramblings!!
Btw my TOW submission is:
The One Where… The Whole World’s Gone Bananas!
So much to say about how awesome this was as a series starter! The opening track to a second album is so key and same goes with tv I think. Apparently they were planning to screen Up from the depths first as there’s a podcast with the Fosters where that at the time that was going to be the Mechanic’s big entrance. But I’m glad they chose this one - although there is less Alan and Gordon action than there might be, both Penny and Kayo get a decent showing!
Speaking of albums - the Mechanic’s theme is so perfectly crafted - grandiose yet creepy, confident yet so melancholy. And they don’t have budget for a choir at this stage (that happened series 3) so the vocal parts? Those were the Fosters and some buddies singing in a stairwell for the acoustics 🤭 not very grand but has a real use-what-you-have vibe that fits well with the approach to modelling in the original.
I have yet to figure out what the words are they are singing but I think it’s Latin? Anyone any ideas?
My boy Scooter has an excellent episode of Commanding, not-actually-listening-to-the-GDF, bit of ninja moves, lasering not one but two objects real good, reassuring rescuees, giving up and just dragging them outta there, yelling over his megaphone/loudspeaker (first time we see in TAG I think? Is that an Easter egg?) and of course some mortal peril where he nearly gets squished like an adorable bug. His little face there 🥹
And Brain’s excitable I DO!! Response to Kayo’s “you better have something for me” make me smile every time. Bless him, and his recombitrant matrix.
Virg finally getting to crash land Two just like his 1960s equivalent (now THAT’s an Easter egg!) (dare I say he does a better job of it? At least he avoids the dodgy head bandage and dressing gown combo!)
This is my ship and I say not a chance.
Lady P winding up the Hood is gold. He isn’t as smart and self-controlled as he thinks he is. WHY ARE THEY NOT SCANNING HIM FOR WIRES??? And why did he design the eye to light up??? Bit of a give away you psycho…
Kayo kicks ass but I do wonder if she’d have made it out of there if her multi-tasking rival didn’t have Instructions.
And the Mechanic himself - Such a good villain. I immediately want to know what is going on with him because he’s not actually making a lot of sense - just let them get the people out the way, it’ll make your job easier. He’s clearly not there to kill so… what? Looking back I think it’s clear even know that he’s not only being communicated with but controlled.
WOULD he have killed Scott? He raises the cutting arm as if he’s going to but… was it Kayo that stopped him or…
Scott v the Mechanic fascinates me.
And the scene at the end with the rescuees in the foil blankets and Scott being charming is just 😘
Then he finishes it with a classic International Rescue can handle it pep talk. LOVE THAT BOY
🥰💙🥰

Artemis ~ Chapter 20
A quite serendipitous John heavy chapter this week, which seems only appropriate given that it's @lenle-g 's birthday and John Glenn's birthday too today! Read Chapter 19 Here
Jeff would say she was getting too old for contorting herself to climb through their bedroom window and onto the roof, but he’d been saying the same since Lucy had first found her way out onto the tiles to appreciate the view of the stars.
The first time John had followed her out there, Jeff had about had a fit until she had pointed out that the Hydrangea bushes that had taken over the front of the house would cushion any fall. She never told him that she had been the one to tap on their son’s bedroom window and waved him to follow her, and John had never let on to his father either.
It was their quiet space though, a spot that most of the family certainly knew about, but none dared to invade. Their time on the roof was theirs alone, protected from interruptions from the youngest pair.
“Hey,” She murmured as she shuffled over to sit next to John, “thought you’d be finishing packing?”
He looked across to her with a shrug, his chin not moving from his knees as he answered, “All done, figured I’d come and enjoy the view one last time.”
She scoffed as she reached across to his shoulder, pointing upwards, “The view is up there, and besides, it’s not like you’re moving to the Moon.”
His smile was small as he followed her gaze up to the clear night sky, “Not yet, anyway.”
“Think of this as a trial run,” She teased gently, ignoring how badly she wanted him to stay.
By rights she should have had another year with him, it should have only been Scott that had graduated that summer and been headed off to live the next part of his life. John had done things his own way though, and when he had been offered to jump ahead a year none of them had found any reason to say no.
“It’ll be weird,” He sighed, “living in the city.”
“Yeah, but at least you’ve got your own room.”
It had been one of his biggest concerns about moving to Boston, not having his own quiet space to get away from the noise and ruckus that came with being a Freshman. It wasn’t like John to ask for anything exorbitant, so she had taken it upon herself to ensure he could feel as comfortable as possible with the move. Lucy still couldn’t say she felt guilty for using her name and Jeff’s status in the community to pull strings to get what their son needed in order to thrive.
“It won’t be the same as sharing with Scott.”
“No,” She agreed, “but it means you’ll be able to study in peace.”
John sighed as he laid back to look up at the sky, “I’m gonna miss everyone.”
Lucy followed him, catching his long fingers with her own and giving a gentle squeeze as they watched the pinprick stars above them.
“We’ll miss you too.” She assured, “But we’re only ever a phone call away, day or night.”
She knew it would take everything in her to not call either of her eldest boys once they’d moved away, to allow him and Scott each their own space to grow and learn how to be adults and live their own lives.
“Even if you’re busy?”
When he looked back to her she smiled and nodded, “I’ll never be too busy for my boys.”

I haven't touched water colours for 3 years... I only ever attempted one portrait and that looked like it had been done by a 5 year old!!! So what possessed me to try doing Scott I'll never know!!! It sort of looks like him, could be better, but quite pleased with the overall finish. What do you think?

Thunderstubble tho - AMIRITE??
That li’l glimpse of Scottie’s five-o-clock-shadow did things to me.
We never see them not clean shaven and I say this is an outrage!
I need a bristly Virgil chin. Gordon with fuzz. Johnny with a 72 hour beard.
Have mercy!!!!!!
Thunderstubble 😌🤤🥵❤️🔥
Not a single word of this we disagree with, Anon.
As much as we appreciate the all-American good boy squeaky clean look…
A little Tracy scruff? Yes, yes please 😩

Specific Whump tropes I like (Romantic version) 💕
Now it´s turn for some of my favorite romantic whump tropes to apply to your OCs in love or to your favorite ships:
Use as bait. Simply cannot be missed: Character 1 knows it's a trap (or maybe not), but they doesn't care, as they´ll do anything to save their beloved. On the other hand, Character 2 fears that Character 1 will get hurt trying to save them, and feelings of guilt and despair fight inside them thinking about the well-being of their beloved.
Whumpee fainting in the arms of their beloved, after struggling to maintain consciousness for who knows how long, because they finally feels safe.
When the family of one of the lovers doesn´t support the relationship and kidnaps one of them to prevent them from seeing their beloved.
Forced to hurt their loved one.
Killing for the sake of their loved one ("I let the world burn for you").
Force to watch their loved one being hurt, incapable of doing something at the moment (and a necessary recovery arc later).
One of the characters is forced to marry "the bad guy", while, in the crowd, their loved one can only observe, knowing that if they try something, the bad guys will kill the loved one.
Anything that includes a character finding their loved one bound and gagged by the bad guys.
"I just didn't know how much you were important to me until I saw them hurt you".
"Who did this to you?"
Dramatical traumatic backstory reveal.
Soul-bounding: what happens to one is felt by the other.
"Only you can hurt me".

guns
a gun digging into their back when they’re caught somewhere they shouldn’t be,
pistol-whipping,
using a gun to tilt their head, brush hair out of their face or pull the hem of their shirt up,
pulling a gun on them when words don’t do the trick,
the outline of a gun on their clothing,
the subtle flash of a gun under a coat/jacket when they sit down and they just want to talk,
shoving the gun’s muzzle against their lips to shut them up,
the steady pressure of the muzzle on their skin as a reminder not to say or do anything stupid,
a gun just lying on the table as a silent warning.

Subtle Ways to Show a Character Is Hiding Something
✦ changes the subject with Olympic-level speed
✦ suddenly forgets things they definitely know
✦ gets oddly specific about things that don’t matter
✦ asks way too many questions to dodge answering one
✦ laughs off serious stuff like it’s a joke, but no one’s laughing
✦ avoids certain people like they’re radioactive
✦ corrects tiny details that no one even noticed
✦ says “It’s complicated” like that’s a full explanation
✦ goes quiet at weird moments, like their brain hit a firewall
✦ gets mad when you almost figure it out
✦ says “I don’t want to talk about it” but never says why
✦ starts acting nicer than usual... unnaturally nice
✦ checks how others are reacting before they speak
✦ talks like they’re rehearsing the truth, not telling it

“We’re both broken but we make it work” prompts
⊹ “I’m not good for you.” - “Then be bad with me. Just don’t leave.”
⊹ cleaning up after their panic attack, and neither of you says a word. you just hold the trash can and breathe with them.
⊹ “if you can’t promise to stay, just say goodbye now.” - “…I’ll fight to stay. I just can’t promise I’ll win.”
⊹ patching up their busted knuckles in the bathroom sink after a fight they started to protect you. again.
⊹ “stop trying to fix me.” - “I’m not. I just like you, even with the cracks.”
⊹ both of you laughing a little too loud at something that isn’t funny - because if you don’t laugh, you’ll drown.
⊹ that moment in the car when it’s dead silent and one of you just whispers, “I don’t think I know how to be okay anymore.” and the other says, “me neither.” and you keep driving.

“Touch them again and you won’t like what happens.”
“You think acting tough is going to save them?”
“What could you possibly do to me?”
“Is that a threat or a promise?”
“I’ll have to keep that in mind next time they decide to disobey me. Can’t promise it’ll help them though.”
“Oh? And what if I just…. *hurts them on purpose* Oops?”
“You act like they aren’t begging for it. It’s their own fault, really.”
“You’re not really in the position to be threatening me like that.”
“There’s nothing you can do to stop me anyway.”
“You think I’m scared of a threat from you?”
