My mother passed away early yesterday morning after unexpected heart trouble. I was able to fly in and saw her briefly an hour before but she was basically already gone. I’m hesitant to even post this as I’ve drawn away from social media and this still feels too private. But please just take a moment whenever parting ways with a loved one moving forward (regardless of how soon you plan to reunite) to hug them a little bit tighter and longer than you used to.

My dad had a medical scare overnight (doing better now) so we’ll be returning to the US in the next few weeks (just to be safe) and possibly settle back down in Austin for the foreseeable future.

I’ve been quiet lately due to sorting out a ton of bureaucratic and travel stuff. My dad’s passport finally arrived today (we applied in early July but had a series of hoops to jump through). After weeks of researching and debating options abroad, we’ve settled on Mexico City for fall and winter. We’ll stay in some of the nicest, safest & quietest areas - hipsters will be more of an issue than cartel. By doing this, we can make it up to Texas for the holidays. Hopefully now that this is all sorted out and our cost of living will be greatly reduced, I can get more active posting new (and old) content. Maybe I can finally participate in National Novel Writing Month this year (I’ve been telling myself that for like 10 years 😓).
