I don't interact with the Helluva Boss fandom much but I wanted to give my two cents on that animation that has been going around. You know the one. (If you don't, it's a short animated amv style video of Stolas and Blitzo that ends with Stolas shooting himself in the head.)
I don't think the issue is of the animation itself. Gore and visually presented gore are common place in the source material and that's to be expected. The gore from the show is contextualized through the actions of the characters and we often expect it to happen and what may happen based on the scenarios at hand. Even given that, each episode provides warnings and more clear idea of what is going to be presented.
However, the animation of Stolas provides no warning or hint that the video would end the way it did. There are no prior things to contextualize until in the animation, the gun is already kissing his chin. It's shocking and unexpected. I think because of that fact, the creator could have at least specified the type of gore that would've been present in the video. When there's no warning as to what we're about to see and when the media does not contextualize what we're about to see, I argue that a plain warning of "gore" is insufficient.
It's the reason why shows on streaming services will specify what happens. If an episode says it'll have suicide, you can expect suicide, even if it happens suddenly and without warning in the source material. Giving a more specific warning for media that provides shocking content seems like a common courtesy. "Gore" could mean a lot of things, and some people may be able to handle some types of it but not others. Does that mean people shouldn't be able to enjoy media that has it because of specific triggers? No, because specifications provide safety. They're important if you're going to tag something or give it warnings to begin with.
I don't think that it helps at all that the animation is poorly blurred and realistic, nor that some of the more popular traumatic shock videos that circulate online periodically are of gun related suicides. I know when I saw that animation, it triggered me personally because of my experiences both online and in real life from gun related deaths. (Seeing uncensored gore, having multiple friends and family members who've committed via a firearm.) If I'd seen on the video or description or anywhere that the video was going to contain both suicide and gun violence I wouldn't have watched it because I would've inferred what would've happened. It would have saved me some unnecessary triggering thoughts and feelings.
Whether or not things should include trigger warnings and the specific nature of the warnings is a whole argument in of itself, but I don't think we should be bashing or shaming those who find displeasure in what they saw. I also don't think we should be canceling the artist for animating that. I think we should be having open narratives and discussions on the nature of triggering content and how we can do our due diligence in ensuring a fandom space can be welcoming to those with triggers while containing mature themes and subjects, whether they're presented visually or not.
Edit: I should note that when I watched the video on YouTube, there was not any specific warning in place by the platform itself. I've been told that apparently there is a warning for suicide related topics and while it's an improvement, I do think the issue of reposted videos and people sharing the content makes this post stand true in regards to media and its content.

if i’m ever brutally murdered and everyone feels like they need to do something productive in my memory, all i want is for you to pass legislation banning LED headlights in my name. regardless of how irrelevant it is to my murder. it’s relevant to my heart.
