The Whumper considers closing the door with enough force to make noise, but curiosity gets the better of them. So they approach the sleeping Whumpee instead, mug steaming in one hand, while the other fidgets with the knife in their pocket.

Every once in a while, the Whumpee stirs a little. A word forms on their mouth but never makes it past the first syllable, still enough to sound almost pleading. A twitch of their fingers, a grimace, a small adjustment to the way they're lying. The Whumper's little firebrand is asleep, but not very deeply, and it doesn't look entirely peaceful.

The Whumper can't help but find it strangely fascinating, this glimpse behind the curtains, the fear the Whumpee tries so desperately to hide from them now out in the open, exposed. The truth usually veiled by defiance.

Maybe the Whumpee subconsciously picks up on the Whumper's presence, maybe it's just coincidence. Their eyelids start to flutter, and they groan, rubbing their face with the back of one hand.

Then they see the Whumper, and they let out a yelp and jolt up, scrambling back against the wall, chest suddenly heaving.

"Was it me?" the Whumper asks.

The Whumpee blinks. "What the f-...?"

"You were dreaming. Was it me?"

The Whumpee swallows, eyes darting to the hand they still have tucked into their pocket, then back at them. "No," they breathe, a little uncertainly.

The Whumper nods, smiling, and take a sip of their coffee.

"It wasn't you," the Whumpee says, a bit more forcefully this time. The furrow of their brow is starting to deepen again, their usual sneer returning.

The Whumper chuckles. "Sure."

Wound Care For Adults

So the wife was on backpacking reddit and found that a lot of people can't tell the difference between wounds you need some vaseline and a bandaid for, wounds that need a little home TLC, wounds you need to go to an urgent care for, and wounds you actually need to go to the emergency department for, so we're gonna talk about that here.

Wounds that need some vaseline and a bandaid:

A blister that popped

A non-gaping cut

A skinned knee (small amount of fresh, shallow road rash with nothing embedded)

Keep in mind that you should NOT use rubbing alcohol, iodine, mercurochrome, or hydrogen peroxide on any of these. It will just hurt and potentially kill healthy cells in the wound. Neosporin or other antibiotic ointment is okay if you happen to have it, but the antibiotics themselves don't last long and are generally not worth the extra money.

Wash the wound with plain tap water, pat it dry with a clean cloth or piece of gauze, dab on a little petroleum jelly (Vaseline) and slap a bandage on that beby.

Wounds that need some TLC at home:

A small, shallow burn with nothing stuck to it

A slightly infected open blister or non-gaping cut

Slightly infected road rash or shallow road rash with something embedded in it

Cut gaping less than 1/4 inch (1/2 cm)

Small, shallow burn: Right after you get the burn, run it under cool tap water for 5-10 minutes, even if you think it's already cool. This will help clean the wound and stop the burn from getting any deeper. Do not ice. Do not put oil or butter or vaseline on the wound. Use an over the counter burn gel and a bandaid to hold it in place.

Slightly infected small wound/road rash: You'll know it's slightly infected if there's redness and swelling around the edges (up to 2cm), if there is drainage, and if it smells bad. It will also probably hurt more than you think it should. For this you'll want to do hot compresses about 4 times a day for 20 minutes per time until the infection goes away. To do this, get a pot and get water hot enough that it is uncomfortable to touch. Then put a wash cloth in that water, pull it out, wring it out, and hold it against the wound. It should be uncomfortably hot and just a little painful. When it cools down, dip it back in the pot, wring it out, and do it again. At the end of 20 minutes the whole area around the wound should be pink.

Road rash with something embedded: If there's a tiny stone or pieces of visible dirt on this section of road rash, you'll need to clean it with a moderately forceful stream of water. You can do this with an irrigation syringe you can get from the pharmacy, or you can make your own using a plastic zipper bag. Fill a bag with water, then cut a teeny tiny hole in one of the corners. Squeeze the bag to make a stream of water, then direct that stream at the wound. This will take potentially a lot of water. Keep at it until there is nothing visible in the wound, then treat with vaseline and a bandaid.

A cut gaping less than 1/4 inch: If this is on your face, genitals, or hands and you care about scarring, go to an emergency department. If this is on another part of your body and you're okay with a scar, keep reading. Stop bleeding with pressure. Clean the wound by running clean tap water through it and pat the edges dry. Make some butterfly bandages out of strong tape- I recommend silk medical tape, but in a pinch you could use duct tape or similar.

Starting on one end, tape down one side of a butterfly bandage, pull it across the cut, and tape it to the other side. Move a 1/4 inch down the cut, and tape another one down, then another, until you have taped the length of the cut. Put some kind of breathable bandage on top of this.

Wounds that need to go to an urgent care:

Cut gaping more than 1/4 inch but that you can still stop bleeding with pressure.

Open blister, cut, burn, or road rash that is draining thick, yellow-or-white drainage and is not getting better with hot compresses, but you don't have a fever

Stop any bleeding, clean by running water over the injury, and go to an urgent care or your family doctor if you happen to be able to get in for a same-day appointment.

Wounds that need to go to an emergency department:

Any cut that gapes on the face, palm of the hand, or genitals

Infection with streaks or with which you have a fever/chills, or for which the red area grows by more than a cm in an hour

Burn larger than the palm of your hand or that is more than skin deep

Any wound that was spurting blood or that needed a tourniquet to stop bleeding

Go to the emergency department as soon as possible, they'll take care of it.

11-- Whumper who uses drugs to dull their whumpee's pain, so they can do more and worse things to them while they're conscious.

12-- Whumper who uses drugs to make their whumpers submit to acts they wouldn't otherwise do.

13-- Whumper who injects their whumpee with drugs.

14-- Whumper who forces drugs into their whumpee's mouths and down their throats.

15-- Whumper who hides drugs in their whumpee's food and water.

Whumpees getting knocked to the ground.

It's so vulnerable and I love it

Curled up in a fetal position on the ground after torture-- "no don't--don't touch it.. don't touch me. Please."

Curling up in a fetal position, while being kicked to protect organs and face. The silent struggle between kicks and taunts to avoid the worst injuries.

When they were standing but they fall on their own knees to show they're not a threat "no no no let's not do this the hard way. Is there an easy way? Yeah? Can we do that?"

A gut punch that hits hard enough to make them fall to their knees

"Get up." (But they can't, and they're trying so hard)

A martial arts throw that ends with them hitting the ground hard on their back

Or a twist that lands them face-down and cringing as the pressure increases in their shoulder (bonus: it knocks the wind out of them)

Whumpee squirming away trying to hide their injuries because they know whumper will target them

Waiting till whumper leaves to collapse so they don't look pathetic "...ohhhh fuck..."

Unable to stand due to weakness or an injury (like a broken leg) "do you not see this bone projecting from my skin sir?!"

Falling so hard their forehead hits the ground

Falling on hard/painful surfaces like cement or a table or construction tools

Falling on gross things like dirt, the bathroom floor. "Do we have to do this here?" (Bonus: it's on purpose)

So like... a living weapon on trial. The weapon is no where near healed not at all, hasn't done anything for their self since they were rescued. And weapon facing trial for the acts they committed. The most crucial piece of evidence of why weapon shouldn't be punished are the tapes of their training. When the tapes are being shown, weapon shocks everyone and begins crying.

OR

weapon has barely asked for anything, only things they really need. So when they are on trial, they ask to not be in the room when the tapes are played. When weapon comes back in, their stomach curls at the pitying faces surrounding them. Some people are even crying.

being part of the whump community is honestly just hearing a criticism of some piece of media saying "this (blank) just features cruelty for cruelty's sake, the characters are tortured for no reason!" and your ears perk up.

tw: noncon drugging, disorientation, power loss

drugging.

I know it’s a classic, but I’m really not over sedatives. it makes whumpee all loopy and clingy, sitting on whumper’s lap and not able to take any of their weight as the world spins. they can’t think, can’t move. even their fear response is dulled.

whumpee knows, hypothetically, in a far off way, that *something* is probably very wrong. but it feels like their consciousness has been shredded to pieces and scattered into the air above where they’re siting slumped, and it’s making it hard to have any type of cohesive thought.

whumper running their hands through their hair, soft and pretty, and saying demeaning things about how broken whumpee is. whumpee won’t remember any of it in the morning.

“From now on, you have no responsibilities, no stress. I understand if you need to keep fighting, though. You need to feel like this is completely out of your control, or else you’ll feel guilty for resting. It’s alright. Fight until you’re satisfied that there’s no escape. I won’t take it personally.”

Gaslighting

Former whumpee that doesn't show his emotions at all, so no one really knows the extent of what they went through.

Former whumpee taking their shirt off on a hot day and everything stops around them.

Dead silence.

Their body is covered with nasty, grotesque scars. Not one inch of their body is spared, as if their tormentor made sure to defile whumpee in every single way.

When a stoic Whumpee is seen fraying at the edges. They ignore the way their hands shake, their breaths are uneven, and only a thin, straining thread of will is keeping them upright.

Maybe they’ve been poisoned. Maybe they’ve worn themself past exhaustion. Maybe Whumper has found a secret to use against them, and they are fighting to remain in control of themself.

And they are failing.
